sputnik
Wreck on I-90 near Deer Lodge. 120 feet of guard rail passed through the right headlight, engine compartment, firewall, glove box, passenger seat, rear seat and exited out the driver’s side of the rear window

sputnik
Yes, that's what happened. The driver was heading east to college. He had left central Washington early in the morning. He fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the shoulder hitting the end of the section of guard rail. Imagine waking up with guard rail flying past your cheek. jacksonbart
I am sure the driver wouldn't agree, but they were lucky.

picky
In looking closely at the scene, I guess we now have conclusive proof that the rumble strips visible along the right edge of the traffic lane have little effect in preventing a sleeping driver from striking the guard rail. They were one lucky SOB. -Glenn
Islander
There's something you don't see every day! That could have been so terrible...
pierceb
Man, I was on that stretch of highway a couple of months ago being a tourist. That's close to where that big smoke stack is right? Amazing the rail didn't hit any other vehicles. Thank God there were no wife or kids in the other seats. -PB
