sputnik
I'll be here through the 24th (Lunar New Year). Anyone have non-guidebook suggestions for things to do?
Marvel
So.... you went while all the schools are out? Of course, the Great Wall could be visited, but it will be a bit cold right now. Visit all the leftovers from the Olympics (Bird's Nest stadium, etc.) While my wife was teaching in Nanchang, she only made one trip to Beijing. No help here, you sure do get around, try some authentic Chinese food, like you have a choice. []

thebes
You should go on a stereo gear hunt. Trying to track something down in a foreign city that's not related to touristy stuff, gets you into parts of town you would never normally go. Great fun. You should of seen the hunt I had years ago for 20 year old Triumph 350cc valves in Madrid. I'm guessing, but I'm pretty sure all the cartridge companies have their needles built there. I could use a $99 moving coil that sells for $3000 back here. And a $99, $3000 table to go with it. Thanks, yur a pal.
