johnnydrama
I have been wanting to do this build every since I first saw the release of the Dayton Ultimax line. I was intrigued by the price/performance ratio and also the aesthetics of the driver. Not only does it look great, but it matches my Icon X's drivers perfectly as well. I finally pulled the trigger on the following items Dayton Audio 12" Ultimax Subwoofer and Cabinet Package Part # 300-7096Includes:Qty Part # Item 1 295-512 Dayton Audio UM12-22 12" Ultimax DVC Subwoofer 2 ohms Per Coil 1 300-7081 Knock-Down MDF 2.0 cu. ft. Subwoofer Cabinet for Dayton Audio 12" Ultimax Subwoofer $233.88 x UpdateRemove = $233.88 Penn-Elcom F1687 Rubber Cabinet Foot 1.5" Dia. x 0.375" H Part # 260-777 $0.97 x UpdateRemove = $3.88 Yung SD500-6 500W Class D Subwoofer Plate Amplifier Module with 6 dB at 25 Hz Part # 301-514 $149.00 x UpdateRemove = $149.00 Cast Frame #10-32 Speaker Mounting Kit Part # 260-776 $3.59 x UpdateRemove = $3.59 I ordered yesterday and the package arrived today, a benefit of living only a few hours away from Parts Express I snapped some pictures tonight of the components and thought I'd share. I'm hoping/planning to complete this build by Sunday. Now generally I underestimate the amount of time involved in something like this. And I want to do it right. However I'm extremely motivated, out of excitement and for the fact I currently don't have a sub in my system, and I'm mechanically sound so hopefully I can get it done. mustang guy
Those are nice looking Dayton's. I wouldn't be able to sleep. My wife would wake up in the morning and I'd be asleep on the shop floor from pulling an all-nighter sub build.

Therefore I'm doing my best not to start tonight and just get everything laid out.
derrickdj1
Keep us posted with pic's along the way. That should be an excellent sub and fun project!
CECAA850
Good looking driver. I was going to ask for build pics when I saw your purchase in the "misleading shipping" thread. Can't wait!
tromprof
I noticed that that Parts Express has a whole line house brand DIY subs now. http://www.parts-express.com/cat/speaker-kits/286?N=13332%204294967118%204294967079&Ne=10166&Nrs=collection()/record[endeca:matches(.,%22P_PortalID%22,%221%22)%20and%20endeca:matches(.,%22P_Searchable%22,%221%22)]&PortalID=1 I will be very interested in what you think of the quality of the kit once you get into the build. I have been thinking about building a non horn sub to go with my Chorus. PE is only 25 min. north of me.
MichaelandKlipsch
The Dayton's are dead sexy ! I'd take a few sick days from work n play
johnnydrama
Well I got the box all glued up. Dayton has really outdone themselves. With the kit only paying an additional $55 for the box, this is a no brainer. Everything fits together perfectly snug with no mismatching. I have CNC equipment to cut my own MDF but I couldn't have done this well on my first build. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is the dimensions. I'm a short and stocky guy and this is kind of a tall and slender looking piece. However I turned it on it's side and now have a bit of a dilemma trying to decide which direction to go with it. Let me know what you guys think... Also...I intend to caulk all of the seams on the inside Edited January 24, 2014 by johnnydrama

If you're looking for a easy to build sub check out the Simplexx 15 home theater sub from Bill Fitzmaurice, i have the plans here and its pretty simple in design and ruler flat to 30Hz, it uses the Dayton 15" RSS390HO-4 driver and would pair nicely with the Yung 500 watt plate amp on sale for $150 but sale ends soon. CECAA850
Does that Gorilla wood glue swell like the regular Gorilla glue?

CECAA850
Johnny, there's no polyfill with the kit?
Scrappydue
No polyfill. No swelling of gorilla wood glue. And id go with the taller orientation in a living room.
Scrappydue
When you need polyfill if you didn't already buy, get it at wal mart! Super cheap.

LOL, just woke up. Looks like -1 1/2 dB @ 25 Hz, not too shabby.
