jacksonbart
Not sure how many fans are out there, but to me this guy was damn good. Irish guitar blues at its best. His guitar work remind me of Stevie Ray Vaughan and I mean that as a complement to both of them. He was born two years after Clapton and 6 years before Stevie. This cat could play. Just curious if I am the only one. Shame he basically drank himself to death.
BigStewMan
Rory was a respected musician--died young too, aged 47. Those Brits have rock-n-roll in their blood--they've turned out the best, in my opinion.
billybob
Saw Taste at the Lake Eola bandshell in 69,Orlando. It was either them or Status Quo. Can barely remember the specifics but was good. A couple of years ago or around there he was featured in a magazine, front cover. Guitar magazine? Yes, pretty intense. Watch some of his stuff on youtube, Isle Of Wight. Decent slide player. Intense! Yes, underated. My friend is really into his music.
billybob
Taste was a band to be heard. Only last couple of years then, I read a little about Rory. did not know him from atom. Like somehow but, I can dig it. He is an original sound musician, with a capital M. On the Tiles think name of one of album. Friend is always reminding me of his drinking. Guess he thinks I still drink. Song: What's going on? Edited February 16, 2014 by billybob

ClaudeJ1
Saw him live in Toronto at an outdoor concert festival about 40 years ago. I guess I wasn't as impressed with him as Jimi Hendrix was!
flatgrass
Somehow me and friends got introduced to his tunes back in the '70s. Always thought he was somewhat overlooked. Always liked Cradle Rock.

Islander
Guys, please! Rory Gallagher was an Irish musician, not a UK player. He was born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, in northwest Ireland, but his hometown was Cork City, in the far south, and he was buried in County Cork. Ballyshannon is in the Free State, as it used to be called, not in Northern Ireland, although it is close to the border. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rory_Gallagher Rory was indeed a great player. If you want another great blues guitarist from the other side of that border, in Northern Ireland, sadly also dead, there's Gary Moore: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Moore Edited February 19, 2014 by Islander

Islander
jacksonbart, you got it right, but BigStewMan referred to Rory as a Brit, and minermark posted "Rory is like the brits George Throgood". I was listening. Did you see those other posts? Ireland has enough issues, without some of its best musicians being mistakenly identified as being British. How would you like to see Bruce Springsteen being called a Canadian by an ill-informed fan from England? It would be just as ridiculous, and just as annoying. Sorry about the political mention. I don't mean to start a debate. The original post was completely correct, but some of the posts by others were not. We can all agree that Rory Gallagher was a great musician whose premature death was a tragic loss.
