this answer the question at hand?

looking at this pic I would say the strip pieces are ply and the top and bottom of the hat are MDF..

That means we still need a buyer.

The Mdf would be a show stopper for health reasons. I had a pair of 60th anniversary edition khorns which were also Mdf and there was a chemical in the Mdf that aggravated my wife and sons asthma. So I had to sell them.

So we need a verdict on the Mdf question.

My '89 pair have both plywood and MDF inside the doghouse

Just got off the phone with Klipsch, they say they have been using MDF for internal pieces all the way back to the 70's. They also say that all external parts are plywood. He assured me that the top and bottom of the high hats are NOT MDF.

Best info I can find says new MDF will "offgas" heavily for the first year and some for 5 years. These are 6 years old. If anybody is serious I can go lay hands on them tomorrow and confirm what klipsch says. He just sent me another pic of the wood in question and it defiantly has grain.
