bbladesbrett
Hello all. I am new to the Klipsch community but am a long time fan and owner of Klipsch speakers. I just acquired a RSW-15 sub. The sub is in great shape. However it will not play. The red light goes on as soon as you power up the unit. The fuse dose not blow. When I attach the input lead the indicator light goes to the green color to show there is a signal being received but there still is no sound. As I moved the unit around, I noticed a slight sound inside the case as if something was loose. I removed the control panel and then the active driver. Laying in the bottom of the case was a 18" small gauge black wire with spade connectors not attached to anything. Obviously this is a issue. However, after speaking to the original owner, he doesn't recall removing any wires. He had removed the active driver as well to check for power from the amp and found none. This leads me to believe the amp is shot but what if the wire was disconnected somewhere and he didn't see it? Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions and any kind of help I can get. Thank you to anyone who can throw a thought my way. Brett

Budman
hey Brett, welcome to the forum. i sold a working RSW-15 to a forum member and when he received it it didn't work. he removed the driver and one of the wires fell off. reconnected the wire and all was good. good luck Edited April 14, 2014 by Budman
bbladesbrett
Ok, I'll take a photo of the wire as soon as I get home. I reassembled the sub for now but kept the wire out. The wire looks like Klipsch issue. However there doesn't seem to be any conections unattended on the control panel. (may have to check that again). Thank you. Budman
so your saying both ends of the wire aren't connected to anything. i've never been inside of any of the ones i own Edited April 14, 2014 by Budman
bbladesbrett
Here is the wire. Neither side was connected. Brett
CECAA850
One end goes on the amp, the other end goes on the driver. Squeeze the spade connector slightly to tighten it before installing. There'll be a corresponding red wire from the amp to the driver.
CECAA850
It could also be a power wire to the amp but I would think it would be soldered on the amp end. Pull the amp, it should be obvious where it goes.
bbladesbrett
The active driver has a red spaded wire connected to it and a black wire soldered to it already. Both go to the amp...............

Scrappydue
The power leads should be there as he said it turns in when he plugs in just no sound. Sounds weird to me one speaker wire is spade and the other is soldered. Wonder if the previous owner did that? Maybe a bad solder joint? Take off the red spade wire and see if they are the same length. Edited April 15, 2014 by Scrappydue
CECAA850
Bizarre.
bbladesbrett
It is a good solder job. I checked that. I thought it was weird that one was soldered too. Where do you guys suggest I take the sub to have a professional look at it? Thank you, Brett
derrickdj1
Repair is highly location dependent. If you are near Chicago, Deltronic is a company that works on that type of stuff.

Max2
It looks like one of the ground wires that either bridge or tie to the powercord plug on the female side. Those two black wires laying in the bottom in the photo look very similar. Maybe, just maybe they dropped an extra in the box or sat it there, said a few words to someone and forgot about it and grabbed another, but I doubt it. It sure would be strange that both ends came unattached, but anything is possible.

derrickdj1
That sub may be hard to get fixed depending on where you live. If you really like the sub, think on converting it to a passive sub with a proamp driving it. It is not hard to do and may be cheaper than a repair. A berhinger I Nuke 3000 would do it!.
