Upgrade Receiver for Quintet Speakers

Recommended Posts

I currently have an entry-level Yamaha RX-V371 receiver powering Klipsch Quintet along with a Klipsch SW 350 Subwoofer.

I'm looking at upgrading the receiver to something "warmer" if that makes sense. The room is very open with hard surfaces (hardwood floor).

Looking at the Denon X1000.

Love Marantz, but a bit pricey.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

I have a denon 1713 which is the same as the x1000. Great receiver. I love mine

Thank you for your quick reply. Yeah, my Yahama - while reliable and good for a $200 receiver 4 years ago, it just leaves me wanting something "warmer" and I feel as if I'm not getting the full potential of the speakers.

You have a very reflective room. An area rug with help smooth out the highs and make the basss better.

Yeah I got a rug...it just seems way too bright. I know that's a Klipsch staple but adding to that with a bright Yamaha receiver just doesn't cut it.

I have heard a few sets of quintets and the last thing they should sound like is bright.

I doubt you'd have that problem if it was an older Yamaha. Might look at getting ahold of an older Yam, or a new Denon as previously recommended by others.

Wish someone had convinced me of the following 3 plus years ago:

1. Keep the Receiver you have.

2. Up-Grade your speakers & SW (&/or add 1) first; Craig's List & the Garage Sale here are your BEST Friend

3. Up-Grade Receiver

There is a nice Marantz 8200 for sale in the garage sale section. Price looks very affordable.

Seller has been using it for 2.1 channel. Depending on your need for hdmi, may be alright.

Probably warm those Quintet some.

I say... Upgrade the quintets. A good introduction to klipsch, but hardly a defining series. Should u decide to upgrade you really have 2 choices (3 if you include icon), reference and heritage. Between the 2 reference is easier to obtain and a lot lighter on the space requirements.
