JL Sargent
I have a pair of those round Jabo horns with JBL 2441 2" drivers that I'm using in a two way active setup in my basement. This horn/driver combination is so revealing that I want to try a quieter amp (been using various tube amps mostly) with these horns. Maybe a digital offering like a T amp or that Emotiva mini, etc. Wattage doesn't have to be a whole lot either. I suspect 20w per channel a plenty. The main concern is keeping the noise as low as possible. For example: 10% THD at rated output not ok. Any thoughts appreciated.
Quiet_Hollow
In what format is the majority or your source material?
JL Sargent
On that system almost entirely digital consisting of higher bit rate MP3s and Cds.
Quiet_Hollow
Just throwing it out there, but I've got a spare XR-57 over here sitting idle until I get my bedroom system figured out. You could test drive it for a few weeks if you like. See what your ears think.
tromprof
I have been very pleased with the sound of the B&O Ice Power amps. It is what is in my Pioneer SC-1222K and Teac AH-01 units and sounds great with horns. It is what caused me to sell off my tube amps. Hypex based amps also have a really good rep. though I have not been able to get my hands on one yet. NAD is using it it in some of their new amps. JL Sargent
Thanks for the loan offer Quiet Hollow. Not really looking to go receiver on this though. Just a smaller sized two channel amp Tromprof: That Teac AH-01 is a very interesting unit for another application and would make an awesome computer DAC/amp. Especially if you take advantage of the sub out feature. How are you using it?
tromprof
I have it running my K-horns in a computer centered system. I was actually in the market for a new dac and wound up trying this since it has one integrated into the unit. Again very pleased with both the performance and price. CECAA850
It's been my (limited) experience that a good SS amp has less background noise than tube amps. It may have something to do with gain structure however.
JL Sargent
As you know Carl, I'm really not a "critical" listener, but these horns are so revealing that I'm gonna try something different than tubes. The "human horn driver" above has found a neat answer to computer based sound systems. That is a really versatile unit.
TasDom
I'm really enjoying the Emo mini with my Belle's. I've had zero background noise and the small footprint fits my needs very well. Being on sale and the 30 day NQA return policy, it's worth a listen imho.

CECAA850
Tasdom, is the mini on sale right now? Looks like $30.00 off. I thought there was one for sale in the Garage sale section but not sure.
CECAA850
HERE I believe the warranty is transferrable.
JL Sargent
Thanks Carl, so a new one is $189.00 and free ship vs the used one here at $150 + ship. Gotta go with a new one between those. I also see that a guy local to me has one on Ebay.

Correct, plus you can get an additional 10% off of that if you join e club for 49.00 Wouldn't be worth joining for this but if any future purchases it might be
NBPK402
I hope to have my Topping T chip amps hooked up by next weekend... They are 20wpch stereo units for about $70 on Amazon.
JL Sargent
I made a deal with Mrtie for his Emotiva mini X that's listed in the garage sale section. Looks like a well made little amp and people seem to really like them.

JL Sargent
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Topping amp. I did look at those.
CECAA850
I have an Indeed 20 wpc tripath amp. You can take it home with you when you stop by. When you're done playing with it, you can ship it back. Shipping will be cheap as it's pretty small.
