Moderators Youthman Posted February 5, 2015 Author Moderators Share Posted February 5, 2015 I just found in the menu where I can assign Listening Modes to say DTS, DTS Master etc. and saw an option for Straight Decode. That option was not available from the remote. Here is what I set them to.
Moderators Youthman Posted February 5, 2015 Author Moderators Share Posted February 5, 2015 Does that still use Audyssey when I choose Straight Decode?
TasDom
Yeah you can set a listening mode to each source / input. Nice feature when switching from movies / tv/ music/ etc..
wvu80
Just leave it be and It will play what it's supposed to. Not sure about that. There are several "Listening Modes" that you can choose from for HT as well as for Music. I'm not interested in stuff like the ridiculous Concert Hall Listening Modes that sounds like you setup a HT in your bathroom.....but the other ones I'm just not familiar with. The ones I'm referring to are ones like these... Audyssey DSX PLIIx Movie DSX THX Cinema THX S2 Cinema THX Surround EX Your Onk and mine use slightly different verbiage, but the MOVIE mode will center dialog and vocals more through the center speaker, and MUSIC mode will balance things out more evenly along your front sound stage, sending more content through your L/R speakers. It's personal preference, so try both, see what you like. I sometimes change my preference, not sure why, but I think I mostly use MOVIE mode, like "PLIIx Movie." Moderators Youthman Posted February 5, 2015 Author Moderators Share Posted February 5, 2015 From what I can see, PLIIx Movie would be used if I had height speakers (which I do not).

I use the PLIIx mode most of the time, either that or Neo6. I find those modes sends more dialog to the center speaker, and the sub is better utilized. The majority would tell you to use PLIIx, whereas I am in the minority with Neo6. BTW I am currently listening in 5.1 mode, even though 7.1 and all the wide/height modes are available as well. I think I would like the wide/height options if I had a larger/taller front room, but for my medium sized living room the sound stage at 5.1 is fine. PLIIx DSX requires height and or wides but PLIIx should work with out. Not positive on your 1008 but on the 5008 yes
Moderators Youthman Posted February 5, 2015 Author Moderators Share Posted February 5, 2015 Ok, I probably was getting the two confused.
