The History Kid
I'm not interested in starting a debate on wires again......again......AGAIN. No. I'm in a spot where I can begin looking at some better interconnects for my setup. Right now I'm using some 16 gauge stranded copper. I'm trying to determine if this would be a good option for my front channels: http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-ULTRA-Speaker-Plated-Banana/dp/B00I52I2PU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438881691&sr=8-1&keywords=Mediabridge+Ultra+Series+Speaker The only problem is, it's still 16 gauge. The other option I was looking at, which is 12 gauge was this: http://emotiva.com/products/interconnects/uss-speaker-cable But only one of the speakers at the front would need over 6 feet of length. I'm trying to cut down on wire clutter. Would I notice that much of a difference between the 16 gauge Mediabridge vs. the 12 gauge Emotiva? Obviously everyone's preferences are different, but I'm speaking on paper, would it seem like there'd be a drastic difference?

joessportster
IME I have heard no difference between the sizes listed, I did try Magnet wire (24 or ? single strand) for awhile and had a perceived sound difference though it was nearly 10 years ago now and I can not elaborate further. I would buy the one that appeals to me aesthetically, If I heard a difference then GREAT, if not at least it looks good and I have lost no SQ IME....... cables are very subjective and at best are a FINE tuning component ................Good luck with the cables
LarryC
I pay most attention to the quality of the jacks and pins. Gold looks and feels nice, makes excellent long-term contact. Silver doesn't. I wouldn't fool with large gauge wire if it's too hard to solder and bend into place. 10 ga. isn't worth it IMO. Believe me, my Siltech and Basis I/C and speaker cable cost enough, and I don't even know what gauge they are. But they're easy to handle and sound good. JL Sargent
Would I notice that much of a difference between the 16 gauge Mediabridge vs. the 12 gauge Emotiva? No, I don't think you will hear difference.
The History Kid
Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm thinking of going with the mediabridge ones. They're a bit cheaper, look nice and seem to have good quality jacks as well as being aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

The History Kid
In all seriousness I am only looking for nicer looking and better insulation. I don't drink from the wire kool aid, because honestly I am satisfied with what I have. It's why I wasn't too bothered by 16g wire.

edzu1234
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY A SPOOL (50 FT.) OF OXYGEN FREE COPPER SPEAKER CABLE (12 GAUGE?) AND NAKAMICHI BANANA PLUGS OR SPADES TO TERMINATE. I FOUND THIS IS THE SMARTEST WAY TO GO ABOUT THE PROCESS. THIS WAY YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE THE LENGTH OF THE CABLES AND HAVE EXTRA FOR INSTALLATIONS DOWN THE ROAD. ALL THIS CAN BE FOUND ON E-BAY.(DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR TO BOOT!)
