Blvdre
You know me Josh...veneer, veneer, veneer! Yes!
joshnich
Well I was going to veneer the plinth and even bought some veneer but I realized that would surpass my woodworking skill and instead put a number of coats of satin lacquer over some sanding sealer. I think it turned out pretty good. All I have left is to mount the tonearm.

jason str
My best tables have been Thorens & Empire. I would love to see an updated Empire 598 in black & chrome, i think the stock brass & walnut finish is what drove me to sell mine.
joshnich
Finally finished the project. Have to admit this table sounds awesome.
Jim
what arm did you wind up using?
joshnich
The arm is an Origin Live Encounter and Im using a ZU 103r cartridge. In the process I found a great product for "feet" At the local nursery they sell these little blocks of rubber made from recycled tires, They are used to lift planting pots off of decks. You can also find them on amazon. They make awesome feet for audio gear! FWIW
Jim
that's gotta be one quiet table. No resonance whatsoever.
joshnich
that's gotta be one quiet table. No resonance whatsoever. Indeed it is! . The massive plinth and having the motor isolated from the bearing combine to make it dead quiet!
