Tube preamp under $500? (tubes4HiFi related)

Recommended Posts

Hi

I’m pretty satisfied with my PH-14 phono stage from the Tubes4HiFi folks and am considering one of their preamps. Their SP10 model comes in at $450 plus shipping:

Any recommendations for a possible tube alternative in that price range? (I’m open to used, but obviously those prices can vary quite a bit even for the same model.)

I should note that there are no HiFi shops in my area, so trying to demo alternatives isn’t an option.

Thanks

The Elekit TU 8500 preamp is a high quality Japanese kit. Its Japanese componenents will be better than the SP10 Chinese preamp, I think. It is a kit, though, so you have to put it together yourself.

Here is a review (with a link to another reliable seller): https://wallofsound.ca/audioreviews/review-elekit-tu-8500-tube-preamplifier-kit/

The Elect pre is amazing. It includes a phono stage and responds well to rolling. Ive built 2 of them previously and would happily own again.

The phono is Opp amp based but is great sounding for MM. You can roll in your own App amps for subtle changes.

Re, my ad for the Sunvalley Thats a great pre as well. You can special request one from https://www.vkmusic.ca.

Sunvalley is a division of Toyota Corp... its about as old school Japanese as you can get.Line stage tube pre with tube power supply. The PS is on a PCB, the rest is point to point. Its uses the orig Marantz circuit.

All good choices.

2 other choices are the ground grid which are amazing and idiot prof to build.

Lastly the Akido circuits/PCBs are reference level choices.

All ideas Ive suggestedI used/built and consider them incredibly good pre amps.
