jt1stcav
I posted in the "Classical" thread, due mainly to the fact that I mostly listen to classical music. But I do enjoy rock as well, from the late 60's and through the 70's, right up to today's bands: The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Crosby-Stills-Nash-Young, Creddence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Yes, Simon & Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Kansas, Boston, Eagles, Queen, Pink Floyd, Electric Light Orchestra, Styx, Journey, Foreigner, The Doobie Brothers, James Taylor, Bee Gees, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar, Bryan Adams, Van Halen, U2, Genesis, R.E.M., The Police, Dire Straits, Asia, Alan Parsons Project, Jimmy Buffett, Phil Collins, Madonna, Sting, Tears For Fears, Depech Mode, Pet Shop Boys, The Cure, Talk Talk, Naked Eyes, Sarah McLachlan, The Innocence Mission, The Corrs, The Cranberries, and on 'n' on 'n' on... anarchist
Wow. What a mix. Since I wandered into two channel and set up the tube system and hooked up the vinyl, my listening habits have wandered far and wide: Black Sabbath, Frank Sinatra, Creem, Jewel, Dire Straits, Pink, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Axe, Neil Diamond, Saxon, Billie Holiday, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Vanessa Carlton (what a cover of Paint it Black), Judas Priest, Sinead O'Conner, Rush, Deep Purple. Just read about an auction of this old house soon to take place. Part of the 'stuff' in it to be auctioned off are a large quantity of 50 -60's LPs described very well as 33RPMS and 78 RPMS. I am sure I will discover some new music to listen to and expand the horizon.
Diggs
Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Radiohead, 311, Coldplay, RATM.....yeah I listen to rock and alternative. I also like classical from time to time. 70's and 60's rock is great.
chuckears
fini, The version I bought was the one with the bonus DVD of the video for "Hurt"... it was one of the most powerful and disturbing videos I've seen. The first album in this series was "American Recordings"; it opens with a nice little song called "Delia", which is a first person narrative about a guy who ties up the title character (his girlfriend), and shoots her for her infidelity. There are some relilgious songs on the album, as well, but I still liked it. Of the middle two in the series, I have only one ("Unchained").. I don't like it as well as the first and fourth, and have only listened to it four or five times. I would have to peruse amazon.com to come up with the title of the other album in the series. As a rule, I despise country music; Johnny Cash is an exception. I consider his music to be more folk and rock-a-billy than country; I love the dark streak in much of his music, and especially enjoy the songs which tell stories. I caught him live about five years ago (when he still had his voice), and his stage presence was incredible. I will be sorry when he shuffles off to the Great Beyond, but it appears he is not content to go quietly...
Deang
Great thread. Quite a few things I've never heard before, looks like I'll be buying more CD's. The Man in Black is back. Amazing. I think I'll definitely have to check it out. Seems a lot of you like Tool -- I'm not sure I've even heard them before.
Diggs
Yeah Tool is great. The music is very dark. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=10:42:35/PM&sql=Br78e4j470waw

Johnny dB
dBlue, you "love Tool" no big surprise considering your avatar. Dean, you've never heard of TOOL!? You're missin' out my friend. You've listened to a Perfect Circle, right? We need to get together, I'll show the ways of Tool; if you like it I'll burn you a CD or 2. m00n
Yeah, rock mostly, but I do enjoy some good new age music from time to time like Tangerine Dream. Anyone else like Tangerine Dream? There is only 1 90's band that I really ended up likeing and that's 311. Mix of rock, rap, funk, reggae. Man they can get that grove on. anarchist
Deans RF7's won't do Tool justice. It takes KSP400's and their dial it up bass to really do them justice. JK, I have heard Tool, Queensryche, Metallica, etc. on the RF7's and they rocked - of course, a sub had to handle the lower stuff. The listening comparison, however, led me to purchase the KSP's instead. Want to do some introspection? John Lennon's album with God, Mother, Working Class Hero has some really good stuff and is quite thought provoking. Queensryche's Revolution is another wonderful perspective on society as are several of their other early albums. Black Sabbath's "Lord of this World" is also brilliant. Actually BS's first three albums are brilliant as is Ozzy's first two solo efforts - I still recall smoking a set of Pioneers listening to Mr. Crowley repeatedly at insanely high volumes. And were would we be without Meatloaf's "I want my money back." After touring this set, you are all set for Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." BlueMonk
Beck, Costello, REM, Radiohead...all good stuff. Right now have XMRadio playing on the alternative station. Fidelity is obviously not CD or SACD quality but it is not bad. I love the variety.
Deang
I hate Korn. Have always hated Korn. But 'Untouchables' is ground breaking. About damn time that band learned how to make music.
garymd
Lots of classic rock and tons of Grateful Dead. Heavy reliance on tape deck over the years.
mace
One band I've latched onto over the past 10 years is Dream Theater. I suppose they could be called progressive metal. The singer is OK but the rest of the band is just amazing, especially the guitarist (John Petrucci). Their songwriting is excellent, varied, great use of non-standard time signatures and just excellent musicianship. Their lyrics also have some meat, especially the latest "6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence" double album. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone who really enjoys guitar rock. middlecreekguy
OK. I`m in. 60`s through the 80`s. Huge Beatle fan. The Who, The Dead, The Byrds. Like pretty much any band that starts with "The...". But I want to bring up some music that I don`t see listed. I love The Flying Burrito Brothers and anything that Gram Parsons did. If you like those Cash albums you might want to find a Townes Van Zandt recording. Gram and Townes were two of the best song writers of the last 30 years. Got to listen to Joe Walsh on a sunny summer day. And Muddy Waters when its rain`n. Give me some Neil Young rain or shine, but "Tonights The Night" LP is a midnight delight. I got over $1000.00 invested in Springsteen bootlegs. Enough said. The Clash and The Jam. The 90`s and up.... Paul Weller`s solo work is great. Joe Strummer`s last release was his best,(Global A Go-Go). If you like The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen or Joy Division, check out Interpol`s CD,"Turn On The Bright Lights", and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club`s, B.R.M.C. If you like ELO which I do, Grandaddy`s "Sophtware Slump" is a must have. Patti Smith fans who have not heard P.J.Harvey are missing it. The Cure and XTC fans need to hear Hot Hot Heat`s latest,"Make Up The Breakdown". Tool is OK but "At The Drive-In" I prefer. In/Casino/Out is their best. Bob Dylan and Neil Young listeners will like Mojave 3`s "Out Of Tune". You like Gram Parker, Joe Cocker or Boz Scaggs. Get Joe Henry`s last two offerings. Must get in Elliott Smith, great acoustic pop. If you have not heard Sigur Ros, check it out. Good late night listening. It will make you cry it`s so good. Really. It did me. LOL) the CD from the first track there's a hidden song that they used to play at the beginning of their concerts. Nifty.
