Dale W
3 guy's check into a hotel together , the room was $30.00 . So each guy paid $10.00 . 10 x 3 = 30 After getting up to the room , a bell boy knocked on the door and said they made a mistake on the room charge and gave the 3 men back $ 5.00. The men gave the bell boy a $2.00 tip and got back $1.00 each. so now each man paid $9.00 ( 10.00 to start with and then $1.00 back) Here in lyes the problem. 9 X 3 = $27.00 plus $ 2.00 tip = $ 29.00 Where did the extra $1.00 go ??? Audible Nectar
"Here in lyes the problem. 9 X 3 = $27.00 plus $ 2.00 tip = $ 29.00" Yep. Herein lies the problem. The $2 tip is counted twice. Three dollars of the original $30 is now in the mens pockets - $27 is in the hands of the hotel personnel.

So it can be looked at the room and tip is $27 ($9 per man) and a dollar refund for each man. Room was (25) (2) dollar tip and $1 dollar back x (3) =
Dale W
YA that ones just a play on the numbers , works out one way but not the other. Now this one takes a little thought. If it takes 10 hrs for 10 men to dig a hole 10 x 10 x 10 then how long would it take for 20 men to dig the same hole ?
TheEAR
"If it takes 10 hrs for 10 men to dig a hole 10 x 10 x 10 then how long would it take for 20 men to dig the same hole ?" LOL the 10 *10 *10 hole size is of no interest here You double the workforce so it takes half the time, providing they work at the same speed.5 hours Even Forrest Hump could answer this! LOL
Dale W
OWW you silly big eared one !!! you leaped before you stoped to think !! And or you skipped the post to fast and never read ?? The answer is : NO time at all !!! the hole is already dug ( how long would it take 20 men to dig the " SAME " hole ) I'm way to bored today think i'll go spill into a pail of beer .lol

If it takes 10 hrs for 10 men to dig a hole 10 x 10 x 10 then how long would it take for 20 men to dig the same hole ? ---------------- the off the wall answer is 10 hours but the mathematical answer is; 100 cuft per hour with 10 men moving 10 cuft per hour Assuming the same rational 10cuft per hour per man means 200cuft per hour for 5 hours would move 1000 cuft. this is obviously a non-union job. Union it would take 35 men 1 to tell to apporve the job 1 to tell someone else the job has been approved 1 to make a phone call to the union hall to tell them the job was approved 1 to pass the info to the supervisor 1 to check off the names of the worker who will work it 1 to make the announcement 1 to start the truck 1 to load the shovels 1 to drive the truck 1 to take the shovels out of the truck 1 to unload the truck 1 to hand out the shovels 1 to supervise the operations 1 union stewart 1 just in case body 20 men work 3 hours, paid for 8, but can only move 1 cuft per hour based on union rules, work 1 hour and half hour break. Request overtime because its taking longer than expected and 4 weeks later and 500% over budget finally complete.

Deang
Oh yes, idiot questions -- I love these. Here are my favorites. One of these really pisses me off. Two men play 5 games of chess, each man wins the same number of games and there are no ties. Explain. Divide 30 by half and add 10, what is the answer? Two American coins when together add up to 30 cents. One is not a quarter. What are the two coins? If you have a match and you walk into a room where there is an oil burner, a kerosene lamp, and a wood stove, which would you light first? Can you continue the following sequence of letters: OTTFFSSE..........? A bottle of wine costs $10. If the wine is worth $9 more than the bottle, what is the value of the bottle? You have two hourglasses, a 4-minute glass and a 7-minute glass. You want to measure 9 minutes. How? A man bought a painting for $70, sold it for $80, bought it back again for $90, and sold it again for $100. How much profit did he make? Dale W
1) the men were not playing against each other 2) 70 or 12 / define half? a half = .5 or half of 30=15 3) ? 4) lamp ( the room is dark lol ) 5) ? 6) $10 7) flip the 4 minute glass / when half done flip it back / when run out start the 7 minute glass 7 + 2 = 9 8) $

lynnm
In addition to his talents as a physicist Niels Bohr was an accomplished pianist and was often asked to play at cocktail parties and faculty events. On one occasion a student approached Dr. Bohr and asked him to solve a complicated question which could be answered either by performing a series of very complex calculations each of which would work only if the previous equation had been accurately solved or by applying a trick shortcut that typically would not occur to the average person. It should be noted also that Dr. Bohr was at the time playing a rather difficult piece on the piano. Without missing a beat Dr. Bohr instantly provided the correct answer. Student < grinning sheepishly > Oh darn ! Someone told you the shortcut ! Bohr < looking genuinely puzzled > Shortcut ?
Mari930
here are a few tricky ones (at least i thought they were ) 1.A customer at a 7-11 store selected four items to buy, and was told that the cost was $7.11. He was curious that the cost was the same as the store name, so he enquired as to how the figure was derived. The clerk said that he had simply multiplied the prices of the four individual items. The customer protested that the four prices should have been ADDED, not MULTIPLIED. The clerk said that that was OK with him, but, the result was still the same: exactly $7.11. What were the four prices? 2.What comes next in this sequence: GWB, WJC, GHWB, RWR, JEC, GRF, RMN, LBJ, ==?== 3.Below is a list of letters, these letters can all be used to spell a well known sequence, which may not be finite. For example, if the sequence was Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, the list of letters would be aaeehhjkklmmnorttuw. acdefhiilmnoorty 4.the following words have their equivalents next to them, what should FOX be? CLICK = 100501100K MILK = 1000150K LOG = 50OG LIFE = 501FE ALIVE = A5015E FOX = ==?==
