Taylorbaby
Hello there... Currently I am a proud owner of a couple of RF-5's in my bedroom. My bedroom is in meters 7 m length and 4 m wide. Now I've been told that my room is WAY to little for a couple of RF5's. I want to know what you're oppions are. I am very happy with them, but hey if its true that the RF-5's are too big for this room then I need to return them and look for something else. I was in a shop today where this worker told me this story about these speakers too big for me. He suggested to pay me a visit next wednesday and he would bring a couple of RB-3's and a couple of RB-25 II's. Now these speakers are seriously way smaller than the RF5, actually they're bookshelf speakers. Are the RB-3's/RB-25's good speakers for a room of my length? And most of all.. are these speakers good for "surround"? The person that comes next week told me these speakers are perfect for "home cinema" now i am curious if some of you guys think the same way?! He suggested that if i return my RF5's to them, they will give me 4 speakers (RB-3's) in return, would that be a honest trade? I've payed $ 2600 for these suckers! And my next question, WHAT kind of DTS/surround amp would be nice for these speakers? the man told me i need a stereo NAD C 370 amp for $ 999 and then again for an cinema/dts amp another $1500. Now i think this man has $$$ in his eyes, but hey i am just a student and cannot afford such thing. What AV-surround reciever would be nice for Klipsch speaker!?! please name some brands and types!! I just want a little home cinema in this bedroom, so i can watch dvd in good quality but NOT insane amounts of $$$ to pay for.. please help me further with this... thanks! dodger
Welcome: I unfortunately cannot be of much help with HT. You have posted this in the two (2) channel part of the Forum. I'll put a post in the Home Theater Section to have those more knowledgeable respond. Take Care, Win dodger
leok
The room isn't necessarily too small. I'd want plenty of sound absorbing material around, esp. on the back wall. I tend to use Reference series speakers as nearfield monitors anyway. My office may be smaller than the room you describe, and it's where I have the RF-7s. However, the back wall of the office goes only halfway across. The other half opens to an adjacent room. Where the wall does exist, it is covered with clothes on hooks. leok
prodj101
that room is easily big enough. I have mine in a much smaller room (see link in signature) and they sound great. DO NOT trade these for RB-3's.
avman
don't make that trade!! sounds to me like you are being hustled. yes, they are 'big' for that room (EDIT:sorry! i need to work on my metric conversion tables-that room is NOT too small!), but as suggested, w/a little sound treatment(don't want the room too 'hard')they sound MUCH better than the rb-3's. add surrounds when you can, then lastly a center. yamaha rxv series,harman/kardon, and denon make good receivers. avman. chinoloco
I am not sure the room size is too small. It sounds like its okay for me. 20 ft by 12 ft approx... same size as my living room. I am not sure what the RB3 costs in your area.. but in the US... RF5s are usually 1500.00 for the pair from an authorized dealer in the US. RB-3s are 1300.00 from a authorized dealer for the Pair. Just checked goodguys.com. If you get 4 RB3s.. sounds like a steal even. However, it may not sound so good to your ears. I'd say if the guy is willing to bring them over and demo them for you, just trust your ears. One caveat, you will need to put out some money for the stands. Bill H.
Hi- I may be stepping off the clift, but Brand Names has the RB 3's for 429.00 a Pair USD, (if i am looking at the correct item....)http://brandnamez.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=2203&lastcatid=155&step=4&AffNo=8799243 I didn't realize you were Quoting Europen Prices! I knew prices were higher, overseas -wow! netherlands
prodj101
to me it sounds like a deal similar to being offered 10 ford escorts for one ferrari. while they may be of equal value, I think we all know which one we'd take
Taylorbaby
what do you mean by, that you know wich one to choose? I presume you mean that i better keep the RF-5's? Another question though What is that kind of "foam" on your wall that is visible on that picture? is that just a little piece of foam that brings the good sound in? My setup is as follows: Unison Research: Unico (hybride amp) Klipsch Reference RF 5 Marantz TJOEB'99 cd player in a minute I will post a picture of my room, wich will be here within 15mins from now... oh yeah just a little note: I am getting sick and tires of all the "so called specialists in shops over here" thanks! Taylorbaby
Ok here goes, here is the room my RF-5's are positioned in. The floor is from carpet. just copy and paste these... and you see my room http://members.lycos.nl/Artz3D/hpbimg/kl1.jpg http://members.lycos.nl/Artz3D/hpbimg/kl3.jpg http://members.lycos.nl/Artz3D/hpbimg/kl2.jpg
Deang
I agree with Prod and the others. Leave the RF-5's in the system. I think you're salesman is an idiot.
Fish
At 13ft x 23ft,I would think the 5's would be perfect.
garymd
Can you return the RF-5s and get a refund? I bet you could get them much cheaper from ebay or a US dealer even with shipping if someone is willing to ship to you. Your room is more than big enough! It's huge for a bedroom and you could put bigger speakers than those without overdoing it. You also need only to buy a reasonably priced HT receiver and DVD player to complete your HT (along with the remaining surrounds and sub). Nothing in the price range your salesman/thief has quoted. Good luck!
sunnysal
bram, sorry but I cannot tell much from the photos posted. can you step back and take a pic that shows us how the system sits within the room? all I saw was one speaker and some equipment, the other shots show me...well, I am not sure. I can say that the speakers should be fine based on the dimensions you stated. do they sound good to you? do you have any complaints about how they sound in your room? post some more pics so we can better see the situation there. regards, tony
Taylorbaby
http://members.lycos.nl/Artz3D/hpbimg/new1.jpg http://members.lycos.nl/Artz3D/hpbimg/new2.jpg here you go! please note that my room is pretty high see picture... I am totally in love with my RF5's but my dad told me it was "overkilling" him. I want to make HT cinema in this room, for a nice price so i was wondering if the RF5 isnt too big for a room of this size...

mobile homeless
Why not take a shot of the setup from the "sweet spot" back where you listen from? This would actually give the best perspective on placement. I think these speakers are NOT too big for your room but at a casual glance, I can see many, many things you can do for practically free to better the sound from system arrangement, speaker placement, room arrangement, etc. On top of that, a good equipment rack removing the gear from atop each other would be a start and worth the trouble. Sonically, feel good that there is much you can do without even spending a dime, only involving physical effort and some thought. kh
Taylorbaby
The salesman told me also that a subwoofer isnt good for anything using the RF5's He told me that I just need front, rear and center speaker and thats it. but i guess a subwoofer is highly recommended?! So I think i will let the salesman and come, hook anything up he wants and i he can blow me away with the little speakers, and i fall in love with the 5.1 setup... maybe.. just maybe I will give them my RF5's.. it never hurts to listen ;-) If.. i will keep my rf5's what rear speakers/center-speaker do you recommend to me? i prefer little speakers rear. And what type of subw? what will be the total price ticket for a rear/center/woofer?
Bill H.
http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=360 here you go on speaker recommendations................
Vladi
Why not try RF-3s? They are much cheaper, but compete well with RF-5. THis way you can pay about the same price for all front and surround speakers - the RB-3 or RS-3 depending on your preferrence.
