foldedhorn
Ok everyone let's starting posting how woooonderful and how greeeat a person robert palmer was. Now that he is dead
Colin
yes, what shame, death at 54 seems so young when life extension beyond 100 seems so close; I can only hope that he loved too well to die so young.
kenratboy
I don't know any of his work, but H.P. Lovecraft died at 47 - just as his best (and most disturbing) work was coming out. If he was able to keep writing for another few decades, Poe would have been swept under the rug.
Fish
I'm not sure how woooonderful and greeeeat he was but he had a couple decent songs, cool chicks and was way too young to die.
cluless
folded horn ..you are a cynical and unfeeling jerk. Each time someone that has affected our lives through music or the media dies, something inside us goes with that.... I always used to taunt my little sister with ... "Hey, hey Julia you're acting so peculiar I know I'd never fool you in a million years". Robert Palmer outlived her by nearly 20 years....but she will always live on in his lyrics. jt1stcav
What a shame indeed. Palmer was way too young. What's with everyone dying lately?
3dzapper
The only thing I remember about him is the " Simply Irrisistable" video and the commercial based on it. Still 54 is too young to go. If he has any young children I feel for them. Rick
Colin
Robert Palmer hooked me with his 1974 hit Sneaking Sally through the Alley. I loved his Caribbean jazz rock melodies and intelligent lyrics about lust. I saw him twice. I saw him play the Hampton Beach Casino in New Hampshire before his great Power Station fame. He was as they say: polished, smoothly elegant, formally dressed and without sweat while the crowd was clad only in beach togs. Wonderful syncopation for my Dynaco ST70s and Fulton FM100s I saw him again in Boston after the Power Station wave too. He did NOT have the line of thin scantily clad models, made famous by his Simply Irresistible video, but his piano player fit the same sensual mode. While his early music moved me, the crowd was clearly waiting for the Power Station stuff. He blasted out the boomy stuff that my Carver front-end with big ole Cornwall 1s loved. Either way, he was quite an original.
dodger
Greetings: The inspiration of Emerson Lake and Palmer's music is the way I will remember him. May he rest in peace Win
Ray Garrison
Saw him in concert in the SPringfield Civic Center in, uh, geez, I have no idea... 1980-something-ish... Still the definition of concert bass for me. Wow. Had big cloth screen hanging behind stage with images projected on it. You could *SEE* the waves from the bass speakers hitting the fabric. Simply Irresistable... Bad Case of Lovin You... Addicted to Love... I'm gonna miss him.
JCturboT
Colin, Ahhh...Hampton Beach Club Casino has some good memories for me as I have seen several concerts there.I always like the intimate setting and the crowd was always pumped usually fresh off the beach after a nice Clam diner. Sadly Robert Palmer was too young to go. Jeff
middlecreekguy
The first time I heard the album "Secrets", I bought it and everything after that. Give it a listen. It`s classic Palmer. He had just released a blues record that was receiving praise. The guy had some pipes. Very cool.
jhawk92
Folded- Sorry to hear you are so cynical. Robert Palmer was pretty influential in my jr high and HS years as I branched out my music tastes. Definitely some good pipes! My wife and I were driving to see her family on Saturday when we heard the news on the radio. The local station played a couple of his songs in tribute and I put on Riptide when we got home. I may have to go check out that jazz album. He will be missed.
Jabez Scratch
The poster makes a valid point: the chatter always rises about someone on their death. However, I can't blame those people. I really liked Robert Palmer, but, come on, the last time I heard something fresh from him I was trying to solve my Rubik's cube. It's not our fault that he essentially coasted after hitting it big in the mid-1980s. I consider it a tribute that some unusually pronounced attention is given to him, even if it is at the time of his unfortunate death. Also, to dodger! LOL: not sure whether you were kidding or not, but Emerson, Lake and Palmer never included Robert Palmer -- the Palmer in ELP is for Carl Palmer, the amazingly gifted drummer. IndyKlipschFan
Something about the Lyrics to Simply Irresistable... Were so dead on and true in my college days too. Power Station was way cool at the time, dated today yes.. BTW those not in the know... hook up "Some like it hot" on those big KLIPSCH speakers..and fall in love all over again!! cluless
folded horn, Nice, Very Nice, I apologize sincerely for calling you a jerk, that was out of hand on my part. I try to refrain from name calling, but sometimes I just get caught up in the moment. With your latest response, I feel that the title I gave you was not quite appropriate...and I will spend the next couple of days searching for an alternative title that more accurately describes the way your personna comes off on the boards.... Cheers Cluless...aka. clu...aka...less...aka...Jackoff
lynnm
foldedhorn I resent your aspersions regarding Robert Palmer. He was far and away the greatest singer/songwriter of this or any other century. Were I a woman I would have tried to have his baby ( Or at least his Bentley ). He was truly as great as we are not. In death he towers over all of us ! I have brought your remarks to the attention of the highest authorities and have humbly requested that ye be smitten. It is unfortunate that I must toil daily to make a living as I would dearly love to have sufficient time to idly sit around waiting for news of yet another entertainer's passing so that I would be given the opportunity of sneering at any and all who might dare to care.
