BigBusa
I'm talking to a guy about a pair of CWs he's selling ...he's said they have 18" woofers. Is that possible? "if you like klipschorns I have an old pair of cornwalls, 18 inch woofers! They are on horizontal original stands with casters. I got them out of an old movie house in the hamptons. I have them hooked up to a pair of heathkit w6m's and they sound stunning." Not that I don't trust him. He certainly sounds like he knows his vintage gear ...I just never heard of CWs having 18" woofers.
garymd
He must be mistaken. I believe they've always had 15" woofers unless they were modified.
BigBusa
He took the backs off and measured them ...15" He said the grills didn't want to come off. Hmmm ....did they make pro CW's and how different were they?
NOSValves
Some of the Corn's had none removable grills didn't they ?
Mark Hardy
The grilles on my 1974 Cornwalls are not removable (well, not non-destructively removable). In fact, the edge of the grille cloth is covered with mitered molding (sort of like a picture frame).
eq_shadimar
The older CW's do not have removable grills. Perhaps he has a pair of Industrial or Pro Cinema speakers that look like Cornwalls? I woud ask for a picture and then post it here

BigBusa
I will post pics when I get them . Meanwhile does anyone have pics of mid 60's CWs? I'm curious what they look like.
Frzninvt
I would be willing to wager that those are the Cornwalls with the vertically oriented horns as well. The logos to which he is referring are the PWK pie slice logos that were usually tacked to the front grill panel with a couple of small gold brad nails. They could be the clear ones with gold leaf, or the black ones with gold leaf. If you don't want them I am three hours away from you and I would certainly be interested in them. I would use them in place of my 1978 rear channel La Scala's.
Jim Cornell
All cornwalls are 15 inch, from day 1. The 15 is plenty, no one would really need to modify a bigger woofer! Regards Jim
CaptnBob
I've got a copy of an old (May 1, 1963) price list showing a Cornwall with a 12" woofer. I've never seen, or even heard of one, other than this. It was a special order item and sold for $50-$60 less than the equivilent 15" version. Anyone know anything more about this?
