Klipschorns

Recommended Posts

I picked up a pair fo K-horns from a friend who worked for a Klipsch

dealer. I've never seen another pair like these. There totally Raw Birch

cabinets and the Horns and crossovers are exposed on top. There from the 70's in mint condition and the labels are stamped Salesman Special. Does anyone have any idea what these would be worth?

Those are the "D" type K-horns, the bargain basement variety. The D style Khorn had no top cover so the tweeter, midhorn, and crossover section are exposed. There is only the board on the front that the midhorn and tweeter are mounted to. They will sound just as good as other Khorn's though. Even though they are Salesman specials there should still be S/N's on the label in the back so that the year or manufacture can be determined. If not they are also stamped into one of the wood edges in the rear of the speaker.

They were offered that way so the buyer could finish them and save money, if the Raw Birch is still in good shape. Don't know about pricing but I would say they would be easily worth $1000 - $1500 depending on overall condition of the speaker cabinet and drivers. Got photos?

$850 is a good price. Not a steal, but a good price if they are in truly excellent condition.

Just tell us the serial number and we can use our secret decoder rings to determine the year of manufacture. Seriosly, there's a coding system that Klipsch used where the year is embedded in the s/n by either a letter or number code.

For example, a "K" in the s/n = 1972. "U" = 1980. They did skip some letters but you get the point. Tell us your s/n and we'll tell you the year.

$850 in excellent condition is a very good price. You certainly didn't get ripped off however certain veneers are more valuable than others and raw birch is the least desireable.
