Rotel or Odyssey for Klipsch RF-7 speakers?????

Hi, I just bought the Klipsch RF-7 speakers and now I'm

looking to upgrade my Amp too for a better one.

I'm looking at the Rotel RB-1090 and it sounded really

great with the Klipsch RF-7 when I listened to it at

the Audio Store. I've also have been reading many great

things about the Odyssey Stratos Mono Extreme and wondering

if I will get even better sound from it? I can't listen

to it though since it's only buy direct from Odyssey, so I

was hoping some of you could help me out with deciding which

to go with???

Is the Rotel RB-1090 and the Odyssey Stratos Mono Extreme in

the same class for sound and quality? I know the Odyssey is

supposed to be only 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of retail since you buy

direct from Odyssey so you save and get more for your money but

I don't know if that is in the same class with the Rotel RB-1090

or not. "The Absoulute Sound" issue 128 (Feb/March 2001) did

a review of the Rotel RB-1090 and the Odyssey but I don't know

what the conclusion of the review was since they don't like you

read the review without subscribing or whether the review would

even be worth buying to read, since you know how reviews go sometimes!

Thanks for any advice or help, Kevin.

The RB-1090 is overkill with any klipsch speakers but it is a good solid fricken huge 100lb beast . I run this one thru a pair of khorns in my HT rig, needless to say headroom is not an issue. lol

Rotel makes some nice clean sounding SS amps , this one is no exception .

Pictured here is my 5 year old son( casey ) and the RB-1090 freshly back from some under the hood modification by a tech freind of mine . Don't even ask what he did to it ? SS lingo is not my game :)

I would LOVE to test it, but you cannot test the Odyssey! It can be

had only direct, not in the Audio Stores. I hear great things about

Odyssey though, and Klaus.

I have tested the Rotel RB-1090 and it's sounds great. The soundstage

was very open and real sounding. I was very impressed with it, but

I still do not know how it compares to Odyssey and I would like to get

the most value and quality of sound for my money. Just like every one else! :)

Thanks! Kevin.

Wow, it is BIG! Thanks for the info. I'm going to be running

4 Klipsch speakers off of the amp so that's why I'm looking at

those amps. I listened to both the Rotel RB-1080 and the RB-1090

and the RB-1090 sounds better and has upgraded build in it with

separate power supplies. I could hear the quality difference

between the two models so I'm pretty set on the RB-1090 than that

of the Rotel RB-1080. Now if I only knew how the Odyssey Stratos

Mono Extreme compares to the Rotel RB-1090!!! :)

I got a chance to test out the Odyssey and Rotel amps and both are nice amps but I picked to keep the Rotel RB-1090, it's all around just right and adds just a touch of warmness that goes very well with the Klipsch as the Odyssey is a little more on the coolish side.

I'm very impressed with the combo sound that the Rotel RB-1090 and Klipsch RF-7 speakers

create, very revealing, very smooth, detailed, and quite stunning sound, BIG LIVE sound, amazing bass, HUGE soundstage, giving a real big WOW-Factor. People who hear this combo are as stunned as I am.

Thanks to all here who directed me towards Rotel, letting me know how well it goes with Klipsch. Thanks again..... I'm very pleased and have no regrets at all.

Kevin. :)

I read the complete review about the ROTEL, ODYSSEY, AND B&K. The Rotel was the overall winner.

I recently sold my Odyssey amp because I was experiencing too much vocal sibilance (pronounced S sounds) using the amp. The Odyssey is a very revealing amp and covers up nothing. But will sound good with high quality recordings. It uses J-FETS transistors which are known to be bright sounding.

I also have a B&K PT3 Pre amp and B&K ST 1400 amp which I prefer over the Odyssey. It does great with all kinds of music. Good or bad recordings. It uses MOS-FETS transistors which are known to have a warmer, less fatigue, easier on the ear sound.

Wow! Kevin, what all do you have there? Glad you chose the Rotel. Had both the 1080 and the 1090 for a while. Running the 1080 (or was it the 1070? Can't remember) bridged as mono was a great experience too. A little bass heavy, IMO, but great sound nonetheless.

Enjoy, and do continue to post about your experiences!

Regards,
