Parrot
Would you expect anything else in the SET asylum? Those guys are all SET-hounds or they wouldn't be there. I look at it as an example of what Janice Rogers Brown warns about--when truth is reduced to a matter of perspective and the assertion of a perspective becomes its justification. aviserated
I get that magical SET sound from FM radio and Solid State. A lot of stations use special pre recorded, digitally enhanced recordings for a more magical sound than standerd CD's can produce. Bass is also better than SET. Anybody else notice this? imperfectcircle25
Hey evberyone is entitles to thier opinion and everyone likes a differant sound. So there is really no way to say if PP is better than SET or tube is better than SS. Each has its own set of pluses and minuses. Ive pretty much tried them all PP, SET, High and low power SS, and Hybrid. Personaly I like low-medium powered mostly British SS amps best for my musical taste which inclused Rock, Metal and Alternative. There is just something about the British amps(NAim, Linn, Exposure), they just tend to be very fast, punchy and musical without the brightness that some other SS amps have. If I was into lighter music like acoustic or vocal, or light jazz I would definitly go the SET route, its the most pure and real sounding. To bad they just dont have the punch to do metal. But to each his/her own, there is no "best" when it comes to audio, theres just what sounds best to the individual. I love when people claim a certain component is the best, because youll always find someone who is just the opposite and doesnt like it, and they are bboth right because there is no such thing as the perfect speaker or amp or source. I donno why people have to argue about stuff like this, i find it kind of amusing

What kind of an audio forum would it be if the most uninformed opinions were treated with the same regard as those made by experienced people with golden ears? It would be a forum where, when someone asks what amp he should get for his Klipsch speakers of such and such a model, he's told: Use any amp you want to because there is no consensus. Wouldn't be very helpful, would it? On the other hand, when people argue vigorously, and advocate their personal preferences, formed from experience and facts, then someone searching for an amp has something to mull over instead of some namby-pamby, wishy-washy, don't-want-to-offend-anyone, feel-good, every-choice-is-great, pseudo-advice. dodger
Paul: Take away your first sentence and you actually make sense. I must have missed you when you were on hiatus. Now read all of this sentence first - I have a hard time standing up and saying PP is better. LOL I do agree with you, there is room for voice, but you've been nailed, others have been nailed. The flames are no fun. But I do remember the picture that was posted of I believe it was almost all of your room. Very nice. Yes, I try to stay middle of the road. Don't really like the flames, but when the discourse is as you put forth in your two paragraphs, it does give people a chance to learn, to explore different options, to mull things over. I know some are bringing SET to Indy, but it would be nice to try the different topologies in our own homes. Kind of like TT Cartridges, see how well they do. And suggesting try this. More would be open, than an irritated sounding response. Somehow, if they allowed shots at us, we'd both be pushing up daisies. No type of amplifier is worth that. But you and I have disagreed, yet we can still email - kind of like two trial Attorneys. Thanks for a GOOD point.
