thebes
Falling leaves and a chill in the air, the days grow shorter and dark winter's doldrums will soon descend. Not to worry though because we've got tunes and good gear to play them on. Format's simple: Name of artist or group, name of album, type of music as best you can (rock, blues etc.), and recording format (cd, lp etc.) As usual I'll start it off with: The Travelling Willbury's, "Volume Number 1", cd, rock/folk Had almost forgotten I had this one it's been so long since I played it. What a fantastic album. Tom Petty, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne in one of the most fun and interesting collaborations I can recall. Very well recorded, great tunes and revived the career of the oft overlooked Roy Orbison's bringing him much deserved recognition in what turned out to be the twilight of his life. So what do you have to share this week?

Joe Shmoe
My pick of the week is Disturbed "Ten Thousand Fists" Metal, Hard Rock This is the third release form Disturbed. In my opinion they have gotten back to sounding more like their first release that went triple platinum, on this effort. Their are a few tracks that seem nothing more than filler, but overall I think it's a solid disc. The title track is excellent, along with the radio hit "Stricken" Also on this disc is a cover of Genesis "Land Of Confusion", Disturbed gave it a heavier edge to it & I think it's a great remake. Heres a link to Amazon with clips of each song... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000AGTQKO/002-9332871-8884039?v=glance
Myhamish
How about 'The Ozark Mountain Daredevils' and their first 'Quilt' album. I was listening to this back in the early '70's along with the Marshall Tucker Band, Poco, and early Eagles ('On the Border' era). The Ozark Mountain Daredevils had a real down home good time country\bluegrass twang mixed up with a little Owsley pharmaceutical aberration to the lyrics - n.b. -'Chickentrain'. "If You Want to Get to Heaven, You Gotta Raise a Little Hell' was the main track from the album. So true And don't forget the Outlaws with their good ole boy screaming dual lead guitars in 'Green Grass and High Tide' - mmmm - could this be something very subliminal buried deep within the title that suggests alternate approaches to facing reality? Got that blistering through the Cornwalls right now. yee-haw! .Still fun to listen to. Hamish
