neo33
"It only takes twenty Tylenol per day for three days to cause acute liver failure." Twenty Tylenol a day? You must be on drug or something!

Speedball
...and the reason a person is not supposed to drink alcohol with pills is because it speeds the drug through your liver, causing more damage. Acetaminophen in Tylenol is some bad stuff if used improperly.
ygmn
Yes....Alcohol and tylenol cocktails are not good for the liver.... In the past...Alcoholics would take way too much tylenol for their hangover.... Per the labeled instructions tylenol is safe....but when you drink like a fish and swallow a bottle of tylenol...problems may occur.... garymd
Someone told me that in some countries codeine and other addictive pain killers are sold over-the-counter while tylenol must be prescribed for the very reason you described. The stuff can be VERY dangerous!
Marvel
My wife is currently on a morphine based pain med, but also has a Percocet prescription for the breakthrough pain. Percosets also contain acetaminophen, which means it can be an issue with liver damage over a long period of time.
MrMcGoo
There are only two reasons to go near tylenol. The first is to prevent an increase in bleeding while relieving pain. Aspirin and ibuprofin increase bleeding. In children with certain infections, aspirin causes Reye's syndrome so tylenol is used instead. Drinkers should stay away from tylenol due to both liver and kidney damage. Kidney failure is also linked to tylenol in some situations. merkin
Some studies say 3 to 4 grams of acetaminophen per day max. A tylenol extra strenght is 500 mg so 6 to 8 of those per day. You also wouldn't want to do that for extended periods of time. Like any medicine use only as needed in moderation. The Percocet for break through pain contains 325 mg of acetaminophen. So Marvel you only have to worry if she is needing to take 9 or more percocet per day. In that case the would probably increase the base medication of morphine. My prayers and thoughts are with you. My mother went through colon CA and it was a long tough road. Keith
Audio Flynn
After a major car accident in 1988 i used to take far too many Tylenol. Have used it sparingly in the past 10 years. Stopped eating raw shelfish as well.
