DrWho
Hey guys, I was visiting a friend's college over the break and I was quite astonished when she pulled out this all-in-one turntable system (you know, one of the "cheapy" ones with built in speakers and everything). She has these turntable parties all the time where they just sit down and listen to old music while playing cards and hanging out or whatever. She only has like 10 LP's right now and I told her that I know a bunch of old guys that run around to garage sales and I might be able to get a good deal through them... So does anyone have any poorer quality duplicates that they're wanting to get rid of? The quality doesn't have to be that great actually - which is the blasphemy part...after sitting in on one of these "parties" I was quite astonished at how much enjoyment they got out of such crappy sound. I even found myself enjoying the music too. Anyways, they like listening to the old classic rock (nothing heavy). Things like The Beatles, Beach Boys, any kind of surfing music actually, The Beegees, Monkeys, Chuck Berry, Troggs, Coasters, Foreigner, Billy Idol, etc etc...I'm not looking to spend too much money on this, which is why I'm looking for some of the lesser quality recordings (which afterall aren't going to make a huge difference). I would go to the garage sales myself but I don't know what to look out for and I really don't have the time with my extra heavy schedule at school (even got a note from the chief advisor warning me that my workload is impossible)

Let's go guys, give the young pup a hand (he's trying for nooky) we were young and stupid once, only thing that changed is that we're older now. Def Leper
Our big hit at Christmas gathering this year was my "new" HMV slimline portable 78, a hand-cranked "picnic" record player. I've got quite a few Christmas classics on 78, including Arthur Godfrey, Bing Crosby, and many others. Even though the Cornwalls are there in the living room, everyone was having a great time cranking the HMV and listening to the 78's. The kids were absolutely spellbound and couldn't believe the thing has no batteries or cord. So don't feel weird competing with those "old guys" to buy some LP's. Cal Blacksmith
Put me down for a few, there are some lps that I never listen to, 70s stuff though not quite as old as what you were asking for. Cover the postage and they are yours. Heck they are yours anyway.[]
garymd
Maybe I'll send a few your way. How about some beat to sh_t Sinatra LPs? Sounds like that could be a perfect fit for your "friend."

MarkBK
Hey guys, I too was visiting a friend's college over the break and I was quite astonished when she pulled out this all-in-one hifi system (you know, one of the "cheapy" ones with built in Blose everything). She has these hifi parties all the time where they just sit down and listen to music, hanging out or whatever. I felt terrible for her. So does anyone have any quality tube amps that they're wanting to get rid of? ...................................................................................................... ............................................................................................................. ............................................................................................................. .........................................................[6] hey, it seems to be working for the doctor...................[]
DrWho
lol thanks guys - y'all are awesome... Btw, I don't feel like I'm eating crow because I'm not the one that's going to be listening to them...[] Haha, but seriously I have nothing wrong with listening to LPs - even the crappiest of them. I just defend digital to the death in the other threads mostly out of fun. Don't get me wrong, I still think digital is "better" but I have to agree that a lot of "analog" sounds better than their digital counterparts (which I just contribute to that specific digital being done the wrong way). There are two kinds of listening: "critical" and "musical" - even the crappiest of systems can provide a lot of enjoyment if you can get yourself in a mode of just listening to the music instead of the system. Seriously, who wants to listen to the best recording in the world if it's of Aunt Bertha singing with her dog in the shower? []

LarryC
I got a bunch of cast-off classical LPs, should I bother sending them? Of course, they'd be good for her.
DrWho
Can you post a picture of her? lol...Steph is just a friend guys. Kait is the one I have my eyes on (steph just happens to be her best friend). Kait and I were going to get married until she broke it off with me last week... [] (obviously I still love Kait...I can only hope that she's going a phase or something as it was completely out of the blue and made no sense whatsoever). Here are their myspaces though: Kait: http://www.myspace.com/svetlikova Steph: http://www.myspace.com/borchert86 (the one on the left) (Can you believe they were both rugby players? Kait even had a scholarship) And before someone suggests it...Steph just isn't my type, and we just became good friends through Kait.
