Cal Blacksmith
Well, I have just about had it with going to the movie theater. Ok, the first gripe I had was my own fault, I didnt pay attention to WHAT the movie was about. Last Saturday, I took the family out to the movies just for the fun of it. My wife, our 21-year-old son and myself. The mistake was I didnt check the content of the movie first. We went to see Aquamarine. Ok, I figured it was sort of like the movie Splash, you know, with Tom Hanks and that hot woman that played the mermaid, well let me tell you IT IS NOT AN ADULT FILM! Except for the occasional parent and us, the theater was filled with 10-year-old girls UGH!!!! The movie was fine for them but it was a total waste of $40 for the three of us! Now the content of the movie, we could make fun of and that would be fine but the quality of the audio was REALLLLLLY BAD! Everything below about 400hz was missing! GONE! NOT EXSISTANT! The movie opens with you hearing music on a beach and I think to myself, this had better be coming from an I pod in the movie but the next scene shows a lifeguard and THEN it switches to the I pod sound and that was almost unbearable! We suffered with the bad audio through the movie, making fun of how bad it was and reported it to the theater after the show. The manager didnt have a clue what I was talking about and said he didnt understand all the technical lingo. So I just asked him if he had ever heard the sound from a $5 Taiwan radio? You know, like it was playing through a tin can? He sort of understood and mumbled something about talking to the projectionist. He didnt even offer to give us rain tickets to use another day. I think I will give the corporate office a email about this!
Malcolm
You might want to check out the reviews first next time... Cannot speak to the sound because I haven't heard it and you won't catch me dead going to it. You said the manager didn't offer you rain checks. Did you ask? Remember, everything in life is negotiable. From your description, he sounds like the typical brain dead college student most theaters use as managers. He was probably clueless that rain checks might be a good idea. It probably would have better to propose a solution he could answer yes or no to than to expect him to actually think. chops
I hate movie theaters, period. Every time I ever went to one, the audience sucked, the sound sucked, the picture sucked, the audience sucked, the seats sucked, the parking sucked, the PRICE sucked and the audience sucked! Just to show how much I hate movie theaters, the last time I ever stepped foot in a theater was when Lethal Weapon 4 came out back in 1998. Thank god, by then DVD was still new and DVD players were beginning to get affordable for the average Joe Shmoe, so I bought one, a Panasonic, along with a new dobly digital h/k receiver, a JBL center channel and 3 DVD movies, Twister, Contact and The Mask. It's pretty bad that I remember the very first DVD's that I bought. LOL And now that I have a 9' wide 16:9 screen and a DLP projector, I highly doubt I will ever step foot in another theater ever again. Not to mention that movies hit the theaters one month, then two months later they're out on DVD.
toddvj
Why on Earth would you go see Aquamarine? It's kinda your own fault. You probably could've gotten "rain tickets," or perhaps even a refund if you had asked for them. He obviously didn't understand how big a problem there was, and if you described it as "there was no sound under 400Hz," I can understand why. He probably thought you were some kind of weirdo. By the way, it's probably a good thing that it wasn't an "Adult Film," if you brought your family.

Cal Blacksmith
Thank you Tom[:$] I wasn't looking for an "adult" film, [:$][:$] Rather, there is no reason for anyone who is an adult to go to this movie[]
Daddy Dee
Yeh, that is a bummer of an evening, especially when it costs $40. Do you think it was the soundtrack that was so poor or the sound system in the theatre?

Every time I ever went to one, the audience sucked, the sound sucked, the picture sucked, the audience sucked, the seats sucked, the parking sucked, the PRICE sucked and the audience sucked! If you think about it, going to a movie is still rather un expensive considering other forms of entertainment. Spent some $65.00 a ticket this last year when we went to see a Seahawks game. It was only a few hours of entertainment. I myself still very much enjoy going out to see a movie. We have a nice Regal near us that has Klipsch. Piranha
Wayne, At least be thankful that you still have drive-ins out your way. My kids won't have those memories like I do when they get older. Property values drove them by the wayside around here years ago.

Considering the massive lack of video and audio quality of the theaters around here, it is expensive. With that being said, I'd much rather go to a great concert for $25-65 and enjoy the music, alcohol and babes to dance with for several hours. Chops, you're just a kid. the last two movies I went to a theatre to see were back when my daughter was young, Star Wars and ET. mOOn, That $65 not bad. Tickets for the NASCAR race in New Hampshire cost me like $85ea. With the charter bus, tip and tax we pay $150 each for a great day of eating, drinking, lusty V8 noise and sweet gas exaust fumes. Do you think it was the soundtrack that was so poor or the sound system in the theater? It's hard to say, I have been to this megaplex before, though not in THIS theater. It did sound like the bass was totally missing, like the speakers were disconnected. Perhaps though, with the audience this movie was aimed at (who grew up on the sound of I pods) only scant attention was paid to the soundtrack. KDK??? I can't recall how many movies I DIDN'T see there[][] I do remember going as a kid though, pop the popcorn and get a 6 pack of soda, take blankets, pillows and jackets. Sitting on the edge of the seat so I could see. The playground next to the screen. Yep, we do have a drive in just down the road from us, on the way to just about everywhere really. kenratboy
There is a new theater opening in a very hi-end shopping center near my house. I hope it will be good!

Yeah Wayne, that brings back some good memories of days long past. We used to go all the time as kids. My Mom and Dad would bring pillows and blankets, all kinds of food, drinks, and popcorn. We'd even get to piss in old glass milk bottles. My brothers and I were usually pretty disinterested in the movies that they took us too, so we always lived for the intermissions (cartoons and playground). Ahhh......life was so simple back in the 60's and 70's.
