DrFish96
What do you guys think of these? Sorry dont have time how to figure out how to post the link. Its Ebay # 170070880831 I really like them but they do have alot of nicks and chips in them. I am not sure how good I can really make them look with this kind of finish. Thanks Drfish
Chicago_Pete
I see they have the super rare upside down side grills:)
coda
They're a statement, for sure. here's the eBay link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170070880831 not really sure about the finish either. if you want to see a speaker that's been really well preserved check this out, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130068217813
colterphoto1
They look to be on custom made dollies- look how they fit the bases exactly- did this guy use them in his workshop or pull them out on the porch? Thats some pretty abused finish there. Lots of chips and nicks. Funny looking 'rosewood' but that's what the label indicates. Proof once again that I dislike the lacquer finish- most of them seem to have yellowed with age. They are Klipschorns- they deserve to be sold and lovingly rebuilt. DrFish96
Why is it funny looking Rosewood? Drfish
meagain
Maybe because of the white parts? I've seen that before. I bet with the right refinishing job and tone, these would look very interesting. I also wonder if one could tone down those white spots a tad if they didn't like it. I think they're cool looking. DrFish96
I like the white spots also. It makes this pair really different. I am just not sure about the refinishing. I dont think I would be able to do them the justice they deserve. Drfish
meagain
I actually think a lighter grill cloth to pick up the light spots would make them make more 'sense'. I can see it. I bet they wouldn't be hard to refinish. It's just nice to see different wood on these things.
rcarlton
They are absolutely beautiful! I think with a little light sanding, a new coat of lacquer, those babies will shine. See this link for another example of rosewood K-horns.
fini
I am hoping someone will suggest something I can do for my kids.
oldtimer
Hey Fini, shouldn't your avatar be used by one of your children instead?
fini
My prayers have been answered. Thank you, Lord.
Gilbert
Why is it funny looking Rosewood? Drfish Simply because he doesn't like it. But I on the other hand []
oldtimer
oldtimer, You're absolutely right. I've made the correction. Yes, plus is better than mini!
DrFish96
Well, I will not be getting these. They are already over $3000 and who knows how much they will end up going for. I am more interested in a oak pair anyway. I just thought these were really different. Drfish
meagain
Awww - I just hope you're not getting them cuz they need a bit of finish work/sprucing. This once again makes me want to try a veneer project.
colterphoto1
omigawd- those are Gary's!?!?! (in the link)- those are gorgeous. I wonder what the cost is to have that done and how much it adds to the 'value' of the speakers? Of course many of us aren't so interested in the investment aspect of collecting, rather we just enjoy having the mighty speakers and like to have beautiful furniture in the house. That's gotta help in the waf, if you have that to worry with.
Jay481985
the white part is technically an undesirable part of rosewood as its called sapwood. Usually its hard to find rosewood that wide (veneered) that is without sapwood. Sapwood is the newer outerlayer of the tree as the tree grows bigger. oldtimer
And being Brazilian rosewood it is not the same quality as say Honduran rosewood. Most rosewood these days is protected, I had a rosewood marimba once upon a time, the sound is superior to the synthetic replacement. IB Slammin
oldtimer, You're absolutely right. I've made the correction. No doubt on my part....................fini ain't mini................ It just occurred to me, along with the other (many) screw-ball OT things we do here, (dogs, cars, pretty girls, etc.) why not have a Biggest /Smallest member pole. Some parameters would be required.
