Daddy Dee
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080131/ap_en_mu/people_britney_spears No flames please. This just seems odd. Britney Spears is in the hospital again, and from all reports, she needs to be there. Hopefully she can get the help she needs. It makes sense to me to use an ambulance for transport. Maybe even have a police unit to accompany the ambulance. However, it is a genuine head scratcher to hear that there were 12 motorcycle cops escorting and multiple squad cars following the ambulance to the hospital. Is there a method to that madness? It's a genuine question. I'd sure be interested to hear the take of some of our forum members in law enforcement. Any others as well. What purpose does this serve? Wouldn't it be considered excessive?
RichardP
From all the other TV coverage of her antics/foibles, it seems that there are always 20-50 paparazzi lurking at her house and following her everywhere she goes (Taco Bell, etc.), and they have caused traffic accidents before. They use police scanners to know when an ambulance or police are called to celebs' homes, then descend upon the victim like army ants, hungry rats, and other vermin. dbflash
daddy dee, i hope this will explain it a little. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-britney1feb01,1,6888226.story when the right picture can earn $100k and up someone is going to get hurt. i wish her the best, but if i never heard about her ( and a few others) again i wouldn't loose any sleep over it. must be getting old i guess. danny
Guest srobak
Still shouldn't be a problem that police have to deal with. Let the press who think that the crazy woman is actually important conduct their stupidity, and be held responsible for the results. Facilitating them with a 12-bike escort only gives them the chance to say, "see? she is important... look!" She is not a government official - and most don't even get that much consideration from the cops... she is a private person who has stolen lots of money from naive children - let her HIRE and pay for an escort service - not waste tax-payer resources on her insanity. ******
Guest srobak
when the right picture can earn $100k and up someone is going to get hurt. Should be a civil matter... make them responsible individually. Not CA taxpayers. $.

That would be for your new deep bass therapy? Massages the body, mind, and soul... Low soothing power for those that just need to relax a bit to full blown infrasonic assault for those who really need their brains cells realigned. Might work better for people with an addiction? They'll become addicted to low bass to replace their current addiction? Can low bass acoustic shock treatment descramble brain cells? Maybe different frequencies might be used to control different chemical imbalances in the brain? At least be used to scare people straight? Does anyone have proof that low bass isn't therapeutic? Could this be a new area of study?
Daddy Dee
danny, thanks for the link. Interesting. 200 papparazi, that's alot. from the LAtimes: The effort, which the LAPD estimates cost $25,000, was carried out withthe help of the department's Crisis Response Support Section, a unitthat deals specifically with the mentally ill. The LAPD responds toabout 100 calls a day to deal with mental health incidents, said Lt.Rick Wall, who heads the unit. Of those, about 20 to 25 a day lead toinvoluntary commitments, Wall said."Most go exactly as the one last night, without the 200 paparazzi," hesaid. "We get calls from family members daily who are worried abouttheir loved ones being a danger to themselves or others."Police officials defended the cost of the operation, saying thataggressive paparazzi required numerous police officers to avoid atraffic accident that could have caused harm to the public or Spears.LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore said it was "a shame" that scarce policeresources had to be diverted from "public safety needs such as violentcrime, drunken driving or responding to the ongoing stream of 911calls." But he said the department "had no choice but to ensure that weappropriately dealt with this incident."
Islander
The problem is not the famous person, but all the vultures who collect around her, some out of curiosity, morbid or otherwise, but mostly for a chance to make some money, even if they put the celebrity or any bystanders at risk. There seems to be a huge market for news of every detail of famous people's lives, probably consisting of people disappointed with their own lives. oldtimer
It certainly is a problem to divert resources like this. Maybe enforcing the law when photo-takers (give me a break giving them an italian designation) break it, in every circumstance might finally encourage a culture of respecting the law in pursuit of income. arfandbark
Maybe it's because the little girl never had a chance to be a kid and have a "normal" upbringing.... Perform, perform, perform. In the spotlight from age eight(easily) thru current day... What we expect from children is sometimes way too much. Consider skaters that participate in the Olympics. Or gymnastics for that matter. You train your entire life for this moment. And you slip or trip. You've let an entire nation down. It's terrible what some parents force on and expect of thier children. The pressure must be incredible. No wonder some crack under it.
Islander
The pressure must be incredible. No wonder some crack under it. You said it! Sometimes the performer wants to take a break, but so many others make money off her that no-one wants her to stop working. It's nothing new. Marilyn Monroe was pushed to make movie after movie in spite of her protests that she needed some time off.
mfk
Yea, yea...she trained her whole life, what about us guys who train as wrestlers our whole young lives, knowing that until recently we had nowhere to go, now of course we have the UFC, but back then, it wasn't about anything beyond winning the next match. The only police escort we get is to county jail.
Bill H.
Brit is suffering from Post Pardum depression. Hopefully the Hospital stay will get her the help she needs..............She (being Hollywood star) is just a small part of what Women suffer each day, but her status makes it "News"?................JMHO.
