ka7niq
Yep, Roy's CF 3 Version Ones are fixing to get put on Casters ! Here is why. In a thread about what is better, the KLF or CF series, someone pointed out that the CF 3 and CF 4's Horn is almost at waist instead of ear level. So, to see what it sounded like with the center of the horn at ear level, I rigged up some temporary stands. The center of the horn is still a few inches below ear level. I run the CF 3 series speakers passive bi amped. I can control the level of the drivers with my amplifiers. Raising the speakers about 9 inches made me have to increase the woofer/mids level a bit to compensate for the loss of ground reinforcement. Or perhaps it was to compensate for the increased high of the "ear level mounted horn" ?? I find that with the speakers off the ground like this, I can "Lean" into the woofers more, w/o getting boomy. This gives that Commanding "Wurlitzer - Seeburg Sound" that I love. You know what I mean, dont you ? A sound that made you beg your parents for a quarter as a kid ? I am still experimenting with height. But no spikes will raise them high enough w/o looking silly. Answer ? Wheels or casters, or even a really good stand ? Roy Delgado - On Wheels ! Thank You Roy for a wonderful speaker. If you still have your CF 4's at home, and Your Yamaha Integrated amp has pre outs, try this ? Split the pre outs as follows, one side each channel back into your amp, one side into Pro Sound Amp with higher input sensitivity. Put pro sound powerhouse on woofers, and use Integrated to drive horns. The CF 3 or CF 4 images best 3 to 4 feet out from a back wall. It wants it's woofer/mids level to be a little higher then stock. Put away your measurements, LISTEN to a bunch of different recordins, you will KNOW when it is right. I think it sounds better raised off the ground too, with horn mouth almost at ear level, firing right at me. Yes, you loose Bass and Efficiency, a little, but you gain so much more. Coytee
Roy Delgado - On Wheels ! Makes me think of those kids I see with the tennis shoes on with a little skate wheel in the heel? I can just see Roy, buzzing around the factory, doing a few pirhuettes (sp) around his desk, right before he does a double lutz to land into his chair... (anyone having seen his desk would know this would be physically impossible for anyone but Roy) []
ka7niq
I have never met Roy Delgado, or even seen a picture of him. I talked to him on the phone once, that is all. I would like to see a picture of him, if anyone has one ? I was just in there listening to Abba and Gwen Stefani with her band No Doubt. I THINK there might be a little peak in the very top end of the CF 3 compression driver ? Perhaps that is why they mounted the horn lower, so the directional high frequency peak would be minimised ? Or maybe I was just listening to BAD recordings, LOL That No Doubt album images all over the place, but the recording is questionable. Islander
If you like No Doubt, check out the Rock Steady Live DVD. It has the most realistic concert sound I've ever heard.
ka7niq
I do like No Doubt, and There is just SOMETHING about an Italian Girl, EH ? That song "spider web" images all over the place on the bi amped CF 3' version ones. I am still playing with the speaker height above ground. It is so cool to be able to control the level of the drivers. I can create a "warmth curve" by lowering the horns level a bit for bad or average recordings, or jack up the level a tad for "audiophile recordings" ALL w/o tone controls. Here is Gwen singing "Spider Web"
ka7niq
This girls voice is hard to get right too. This is .She is Richy Blackmores old lady, remember Deep Purple ? I have every CD this group made. I just Love her Voice, and the music too. The CF 3's rival my B&W 801's on this groups songs, maybe better it in some ways. ka7niq
Thank You So Much For The Picture Of Roy ! My best friend dont like the CF 3's and CF 4's, but he is 6 feet 4. I am a short guy, 5 feet 7 inches, like Roy. My friend, because he is so tall, is "out of the path of the horn" on the CF 3's I think, LOL So THAT is what a Jubilee looks like, huh ? I remember asking Roy when I had my CF 4's WHAT Kilipsch would beat them ? He said "The Jubilee's I am working on, but they are not for sale yet. Thank you SOO much for the pictures !!! ka7niq
Thanks Amy ! Roy is My Hero for designing the CF Series Speakers. In the picture of him holding the Ducks, he looks like a Mayan or Inca High Priest getting ready to sacrifice the Ducks to the Sun God. Or, whatever God The Mayan Priest deemed "appropriate" at the time ? You know, they had a God for any purpose, one for fertility, one for Rain, one for War, one to get back at your enemy's, etc, etc No "one size fits all God" like the Europeans, LOL But seriously, Inca and Mayan people has quite a civilization going on ya know ? My God Amy, they found evidence of them doing Dentistry and BRAIN SURGERY years before the Europeans got to the America's. They had irrigation, planned communities, and a Calendar .... Now, THAT Calendar is for another discussion ...... HOW do you upload a picture here from your computer
