rigma
Gary, I was doing a Google search for a Thorens 124 and about20 pages down I found a website that had old 78 records for sale andthere was a photo and description of the console with a price of $495. I really didn't think it could possibly still be for sale but I calledand the gentleman said it had been listed for 2 months and nobody hadeven called about it! He was a very nice older guy and said he had itfor about 12 years to play 78's and would be happy to have it go to agood home. The only thing I didn't know about was all the Mullardtubes in the Mac and Fisher. Some of the CA. guys will hate mefor snatching this from under their nose[6] I had Craters &Freighters in Sacramento pick it up and crate it then had FedEx freight deliver. Idid have to spend another $380 to get it here but it arrived in greatshape. I have not powered anything up yet but everything appears to be in excellent condition. I will post more pics later asit in disassembled and cleaned. rigma

TheEvan
Fantastic! Perhaps there is hope yet for the rest of us. Sorry for the hijack, but this reminds me of my all-time worst "almost". A man I used to do lots of business with built a home behind his mother-in-law's unusual place. It was the ultimate "house of the future", built in the early 60's. I think it is a mere 8,000 sq ft. The entire place was straight out of the Jetsons and had never been updated. It features a most unusual indoor pool. it also had a whole-house audio system. Mike showed me the master console for it which consisted of a Mac C-22, a neat-looking Mac component for distributing the signal to the different rooms, a Mac tuner, a reel to reel and an old Weathers TT. There were, if memory serves, 6 Mac amps, possibly more. all utterly pristine. Unbeknownst to me, Mike moved her out of the place and into his and subsequently cleaned up the place to sell. When I heard about it I inquired about all the gear. He THREW IT ALL IN THE DUMPSTER. Almost.............
fini
I read that, and threw up a little in my mouth. What a shame!

That MC30 looks better than the other 2. Have you fired it up yet? What are your plans for the Thorens? Thanks the MC-30 is in very nice condition. I will bring it up on the variac soon just haven't taken the time yet. On the Thorens I will be replacing all rubber bushings, belt, cleaning, lubing etc. I also ordered a new plinth which is a copy of the original from Octave Audio in gloss black. Just want to restore it to mint original condition. rigma
