  7. Good Morning Guys Earl I would say the value in the NBS is that it was designed with the same caps in a effort to taylor its sound to compliment what is already in the amps, So if you like the sound of the amps it would likely be a no brainer that the pre would mate well The krell has a rep for being strident, The cary has a rep of being thin on the bass although extended on the high end (not a weell known or regarded cary product) the peach has a large following and is widely considered a great pre-amp, The NBS is modeled after the blueberry by Craigs own admission andd the Blueberry was marks step up from the peach, I say if you can afford it go for it and sell off the others to off set the expense on the new gear. Matching gear is also nice to look at

  9. On the road again!Good stuff! Had me some smoked mullet dip for breakfast...mmmmmmmnnnnnn! Almost recuperated and getting ready for the black-eyed peas, rice, and ham. Nothing too exotic like smoked hog jowls or knuckles but, it will do. Some cooks put some baking soda in their peas while cooking, suppose to be not so gassy. Other's put the lid ajar while cooking to relieve the gas. I prefer loosing the gas the old school natural way.

I mean im just minding my own business one day, and as i remember he posted some guy on Agon who was in my backyard. Everyone knows what Khorns go for, this Agon guy was asking $999, yeah, like i need more than 0.3 seconds to think about that one! The wife still thanks you Joe P.S. did your paypal on xmas day?

  15. OK, so I need some advice. I REALLY should not spend any more on audio right now. I have the revamped Peach and a Cary tube. So do I make an offer on the NOSValves preamp? Is there really any value in this preamp over the other two for use with the VRD's?

  16. Actually looks rather healthy, not bad really, vegetables, potatoes chicken. We don't have eating problem here, we have a cooking problem, and I hate to waste food. I am lucky, my son in law can almost eat his weight in food and the other daughter, husband and kids are helping, so it is gone in a couple three days. It will be nice to get back to normal (eating), I gained 10 pounds between the last cruise and Thanksgiving.

  18. Hummm, well if that's the case, first, i would bow down to my new mentor, 30+ years in the OC, burnin out a wife every 5 to 7years, i could have had it made, just stickin with an LF, i could have saved a fortune. Naw, i learned early on, you want a Fox'y young waitress, and you want to keep it, you better marry it. (It's The OC Way). Besides, i was ALWAYS one behind my Bud's.

For the record I was wearing a tank top. It was just my strategically placed hands and phone. But I will try and push the naked chef thing to the food network and see where it gets me.

  20. I missed a lot yesterday. Neked coffee makers, BigStewMan's incredible bravery, plans for LF visits, and on and on!! We, on the other hand, had it pretty tame. Visited better half's family and made it home just as the snow storm was starting to pile up. Not too bad by our standards ... 7 or 8 inches on the ground. We have two 4 wheel drive vehicles so no biggie. Baxter loves it. Just wish my grandson was here to enjoy it too. Happy 12/26 guys. Later.

  23. Wife will not let me do anything to her system, so i know it must be fine One thing, of the many things iv learned from my farmer buds, they shop at farm supply or online for Carhardt Levi's, they only buy the flannel lined Carhardt blue jeans, a little on the pricey side, Aprox $40ish for a pair for me, but my god man they last years, and you get spoiled real quick on how good they feel when wearing them, ill never buy anything else. You might look at kid sizes just for the hell of it, try a couple pairs on them, and get them one size bigger for the kids. I thought in the summer time i would fry like an egg, turns out you dont even notice any added heat in the legs. These Carhardts are made of the Levi material like we had when we were youngins.

  27. you are going to like the look, Craig does some nice work. One of the fun factors with his design is the bass, for a tube amp they really excel with bass, at 1 time I was running a tri-amp horn setupp and I actually used his amps for my bass sounded awesome.............but sanity prevailed and I ended up using a 200,00 SS amp and sold the VRD......................I also usesd them straight up on K-Horns and Cornwalls both with great results..................I just evolved into Bi and Tri Amping and that is why I went to SET amps More control Over the end SQ, also required a lot of fiddling so not sure I was better off in the end as you tend to lose interest in the music if you get to much into the gear end of things Atleast I did One positive side to my current delima is I dont have to worry with gear swapping and I can get back into music, It has also opened my eyes to the fact that Speaker setups will never be as detailed as Headphones so why obsess over detail,

Give my present to my bud, who loads it, turns in his dinning room chair, slides open the dinning room window and Kills one hummingbird feeder, the exwifes birdbath and one flood light on the Barn, not a bad shot, considering the loads were hollow point Magnums ! Yes he/we shoot from the dinning room, ahhh life on the farm.....

  32. Tonight, my son and I watched Transformers: Age of Extinction. Amazing movie. The LaScalas sounded absolutely fantastic. Dialogue was clear and gunshots sounded real. The Dual RSW-15's are plenty for my setup. I wanted to pose a question about volume to the community. How loud do you typically watch a movie? My receiver was set at -25db. Most dialogue and non-action sequences were around 85db. During explosions (which there were plenty in this movie), the meter hit 115db quite often. Honestly, this is the first time I finished a movie and wondered if I had it too loud. It's difficult to say how long those peaks lasted but I'm sure the action scenes were around 100db continuous which can't be good for my hearing. The last thing I want to do is to damage my ears to where I can no longer enjoy movies or music. Just looking for some feedback.

  40. I owned the 5d Mark III. Sold it to get my Klipschorns and then 6 months later got the 1dx. Here is what I can tell you: * the 5d Mark III is the highest megapixel camera Canon makes, and is currently their most advanced system behind the 1dx. * it is a full frame camera - you will simply LOVE the files it produces. * it uses the same focus system as the 1dx - and IS AMAZING. * files are usable to 12,800 iso - if you use NR software, and are pretty much indistinguishable from the 1dx. * is not as 'weather sealed' as is the 1dx (more on this in a moment). * It is not a beginner/point-and-shoot camera and depending on your commitment level, will provide you a lifetime of excellent photos as you continue to learn how to use it. *lenses are MORE IMPORTANT than camera bodies - invest in high quality lenses (they hold their value) then worry about a body. I recently took my 1dx out to the coast during a major storm and was out in the pouring rain with it for 4 hours straight. It was not protected and did fine (imagine a camera sitting on the grass while the lawn sprinkler rained down on it for 4 hours). BUT, the next day it developed a problem and I must send it in to have fixed. I do not know if it is related to the rain issue, Canon will let me know. Considering the differences between the 5d Mark III and the 1dx - since I have owned both, I would (and likely will) take the 5d Mark III over the 1dx 9 out of 10 times. When I get the 1dx back after repair, I will likely sell it and purchase another 5d Mark III. It is a wonderful camera and can do almost everything the 1dx can do and what the 1dx can do is not worth the price difference (for me, anyway...pros shooting sports would disagree). Long story short YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED if you buy a 5d Mark III. EDIT: the 5d mark III is not considered a sports camera and doesn't have the FPS of the 1dx or the 7d for that matter. But if you look back at my hummingbird shot (and knowing how erratic hummingbirds can fly) you can see what the 5d mark III can do, since that shot was taken with it.

  41. Just to keep things straight from where I'm coming from....I'm not going off my AVR's dial. When I say -18 dB REF that means something entirely different than -18 dB on my amplifier's volume scale. -18 dB REF means that if, for whatever reason, the signal peaks at -0 dB FS through the AVR, I'll meter out at the listening position at no more than 87 dB SPL (105-18) from the mains / center and 97 dB SPL from my sub (115-18). Plenty loud for sure, but not moving my clothing by a good stretch yet. I can't vouch for what others' software does, but with the calibration procedure the operator is either supposed to note the value at reference level SPL and subtract from there on out, or if the AVR is capable, tare / re-zero the volume scale. That makes the numbers useful for the sake of comparison. This is all because regardless of what the amp is capable of, the speakers and the room are also factors in the equation. All for naught if you don't have a multimeter and an SPL meter to see what's really taking place. Back to the OT, none of the above levels take into account average energy. Peaks are supposed to peaks. Not a sonic onslaught through until the end of the credits. There is no more a glaring example of this soundtrack debauchery than in the BR release of Top Gun. Both full-surround codecs are available to A/B. For those that have been around aircraft, one option will sound "real" at reference level and the other will sound like the subwoofer and center channel are about to blow a gasket and spew molten lava.

  42. Nice quiet amps Earl, and plenty of power, they will make a superb K-Horn setup, forget about the Krell the Cary might mate well though which one do you have ?? Cary did a couple very well regarded pre-amps Cant comment on the peach but as it is fresh back from mark with all his new goodies I would say it would mate well, The NBS looks like a good pre as well but you should get a break from the seller if you buy both ( at least I always want 1 )

  47. Being only 75 gallons I use 2 4' actinic and one Metal Halide, I used tap water, it was well water and tested ok for mixing, I always mixed in a plastic drum I kept aerated until needed, I didn't have as much evaporation, probably because of the smaller tank. When getting started I wanted a wet-dry filter, my dad helped me build one much bigger than needed from Plexiglas with fiber glassed edges, it worked great. But one of my best additions was a protein skimmer, it was cool how they worked. I read everything I could find when getting started, my favorite the Marine Aquarium Reference, by Martin A. Moe, great book. imo Thanks for the kind words on the photo D. The tap water in my area, as good as it is, would never fly with the SPS corals I kept. Everything had to come out. No Phosphates or Silicates among all the other TDS's and bad stuff...chlorine, fluoride, etc. I have a heck of a 5 stage purifier unit that makes 99.9% lab grade water. Good equipment makes things so much easier. I also have a dosing system that dripped calcium chloride and Alkalinity additives every 15 minutes to keep PH and hardness in spec. I lived and breathed this stuff everyday and had to keep a healthy tank. All I ran was a protein skimmer since all my live rock took care of most of nitrates and nitrite levels. And then my tank got contaminated with these guys. I got lazy after so many years of quarantine frags before they went in my tank. Bad mistake. These things will wipe out a tank without and abundance of Wrasses . Lower right of quarter. This is one that came out of my tank. Trying to save my SPS in my growout tub while starving the worms in my tank. The chances are slim to none once you figure out you have them. It takes very little to kill the tissue on SPS (small polyp stony) corals. A few bites and they're done. Two or three degrees water temp swing will stress some of the more delicate to where they will decline and die over 3-6 months. A frustrating hobby, but extremely rewarding at the same time. I kept all my coral heads that I lost and are all over my house as decoration. I grew most of these out over the span of 15years. What started the size of your thumb, some of the faster growers were as wide as a dinner plate. 4 inch mouth on my main tank skimmer
