  1. I would be more than happy to help out. I have emailed Trey with the same message. Guess that makes two "good ole boys" in Ruston. :-)
  2. No he wasn't a square trade member. I used Square Trade as an intermediary. It cost me $20. They talked to the both of us but only shared with the crook what I told him he could. The seller said they would ship but didn't. By the time it was over, they had told about 4 different versions. The DA called today to let me know that since the guy sent me my money, he was being charged with "municipal theft" instead of "Criminal theft". It will be on his record. The fact that he sent me the money is admission of guilt.
  3. Tom Kowalski and Crystal Menden. He is into motorcyles (sport bikes) and car audio stuff (probably hot). Crystal is into being used as the nice innocent little black widow in the scam. Have at em. Post pictures of the finished product to the list.
  4. Yes, I was lucky but helped my luck along. I paid $800 for 5 speakers and an HK receiver and shipping was $140. I sent the POSTAL money order next day for$13.95 so it would get there in time for his next shipping run. I was told that I would have to wait until next week to get it shipped if I didn't next day the money. So in all, I had $954 in the deal, I got $950 back. I am a happy camper. I got copies of the endorsed money order from the post office, I printed copies of all the emails passed between the seller and I, and I printed copies of the auction posting and the "winning bid" pages plus copies of the emails of excuses as to why it hadn't shipped when they said it would. I had over 70 pages of documentation. I went to my local police and filed a report so the Milwaukee police knew that I was a real person with a real complaint. That was all faxed to the detective. Square Trade and Ebay were a joke when it came to helping me get my money back. About the only thing they did was to generate about 20 pages of excuses and lies from the crooks. I still had to go through it to show the detective that I was trying and serious. Like I said, I was lucky but making copies of everything and interacting with the crooks and documenting it made the case simple for the cops at the other end. If you don't look out for yourself, no one else will.
  5. I still have the 299. I changed the transformer and I still have the buzz. I changed rooms and its new home is less buzzy (about 75% better) than its old one. The speakers are still in the same place, I just remote located all my electronics. I have another problem with it though. When I turn it on, the left channel light comes on really bright and then dims when the tubes warm up. I am going to send it off to have it looked at. I have really enjoyed it. Thanks.
  6. If you guys remember, I bought a set of Klipsch speakers (R series) and an HK receiver on Ebay from a guy and girl in Milwaukee back in Jan. of this year. I sent a money order and never got my goods. I got a $950 money order yesterday from the guy that ripped me off. Thanks to the Milwaukee police and the DA and my persistence. After 6 and a half months of run around, one email to the police oversite commitee and it was taken care of. Yes, I saw red flags but chose to ignore them out of greed because it was a good deal. I should have listened to my gut. Learn from my mistake. I have.
  7. If the finish is in good shape, would it be possible to recoat them with another coat of poly that is stained to darken the overall finish? Like the old candy apple red car finishes. Silver or gold underneath with a clear outer coat stained red.
  8. wd-40 is also a great sticker stickum remover. Works especially well on automotive paint.
  9. If you want an excuse to go by new, you got it. If you want to try to save the ones you have now, build a new box that is just tall enough to cover the damaged part. Shave off enough of the swollen wood, goop up the insides of the new box with silicone and slide the old box down into the new base. Good as new. Paint to your liking.
  10. You have no idea what you have just done. Prepare to be bombarded with questions about your new subs. Me first. What are you using them for and how do you like them?
  11. I don't know if the softness of the gaskets makes a difference and I don't know if what I did to mine makes a difference but here is what I did. I took the driver off the horn and trimmed the gasket with an eXacto knife so it was flush with the inside of the horn throat. It was hanging over into the hole buy about 1/8". I thought that would probably make a difference. The other thing I did was to take a butcher knife and use it to smooth out the uneven connection of the front half of the 401 horn with the back end. About half way back on the inside was a huge missalignment of the two halves on all four sides of the horn. I thought that would make a difference too. Couldn't tell if either one did anything but I felt smarter for having tried it.
  12. D-man, I didn't have the same fuses to replace mine with so I put in standart 20 amp fuses. I noticed that my bass sounded a little quicker and tighter. Could be all in my head. I will just not crank it up that loud again until I get the correct fuses back in them.
  13. It was the woofer fuses that blew. The top end never missed a lick.
  14. Yes, I had it krunk up. Monster loud. Whole house shaking loud. As far as I could tell, they blew at the same time. I have 50 of 16 guage zip wire to each. If I had 14 guage or 12, would they maybe not have blown? How does that work? I know the 16 is too small but if I don't push it to the limit, what does it matter? ie: 16g at 50% OK 14g at 75% OK 12g at 100%OK
  15. Honda makes a four-stroke because of the polution problem. Don't know how they handle or run but they look sweet.
  16. I think you meant horizontal. I think they are described by the way the speakers have to lay sideways for the horns to be horizontal.
  17. I am originally from Arkansas and since the Klipsch are also originally from Arkansas, it would seem natural that the speakers follow an old Arkansas tradition. Aint nuttin lak keepin it awl in da fambly.
  18. Nope the crossovers were on the right when I got them and there are no holes on the left where they would have been moved from. My only answer is that your LaScala's are newer than most of the pictures we see and that may be the story.
  19. 300 block of Remy? Is that in the two channel section?
  20. He he he he, Charlie today, tomorrow the world.
  21. Eva Cassidy, American Tune. For about the 4th time in a row.
  22. Mineral Spirits is what the directions on my can of Boiled Linseed Oil said to use.
  23. http://www.hamysound.com/fiches/KW-120-THX.pdf Sales brochure of the sub. I am not allowed to open it in my house because I sound like the lady on tv that is washing her hair. Yeap that one.
  24. I love my Klipsch, but never thought of dating them. That would be weird. Worse than dating your sister. People would look at you funny in the theater or at Sonic. I just don't think it should be done. I give mine a hug every once in a while but if we are going out, it's only to the carport for a rub down with oil, not on a date. Let me guess, you are from Arkansas?
