  1. That is neat looking. Only thing I question is how does the cool air get in? I see where is is supposed to get out but how does it get in? Maybe drill a few holes around to sides and back down low? It would be really cool to be able to flame the drilled holes so they disappear. Then you could put a neon light on the shelf behind the amp and watch the case and the tubes glow.
  2. Axualy I tink de problum is all da fansey pichers pepuls haz by thar namz. spacely da muven unz.
  3. spacily fer us suthurnurs. weuns tipe eben sloer din weuns tawk.
  4. I just thought these would be a cheap way to treat the spots that the mirror on the wall and ceiling trick would expose. The slap/echo type stuff. I thought they would also work for the back wall treatment. The bass treatment would have to be something else, considerably more substantial.
  5. I built one for about $100. It needs fine tuning but overall I am happy. I got it all at Home Depot. A 4x8 sheet of Parkland Plastics that is used for wall covering in bathrooms. It is a white, fiberglass reinforced, pebbles grained and glossy on the front and flat and mostly dull on the back. I also got 3 sticks of brick mold, spray painted flat black, for the border and had a scrap 1x4 for vertical supports on the back. I calculated out a 2.35x1 ratio and trimmed about 1.5 inches off the 4 foot end. I drilled holes in the edge of the plastic and screwed it to the brick molding that I had already 45d the corners and screwed together. I then fastened the 1x4s to the back to make sure it didn't sag in the center. I have it sitting on my Belle center speaker. You could probably leave off the 1x4s if you hang it from the top molding instead of sitting it on something. I sanded the flat side and spray painted it with gray primer. I then wet sanded it with 400 grit paper to remove all the sheen. It takes a lot of sanding to get the back perfectly flat and smooth. You may be better off going with the screen goo instead of all the sanding. With my Sony lcd the gray color was perfect.
  6. You must be shopping at the Salvation Army stores in the poor part of town. The good stuff is in the SA's in the high dollar parts of town.
  7. I wonder if the fact that one resonant side of the cabinet is stiffened by the horn section and the other is stiffened by the floor, makes the Horiz tighter sounding than the later vertical model.
  8. http://www.hamysound.com/fiches/KW-120-THX.pdf So Ear, have you heard it?
  9. The first number shows they were made in June, the 6th month. The letter P shows they were made in 1976. Enjoy.
  10. The speaker wires hook to the Niles box. I use this box also for my Scott tube amp and my Yamaha ss amp. It works great. I attached the wires from my speakers to the center/common connections and the tube amp wires to the A connectors, the SS amp wires to the B connectors. The box has an in/out pushbutton so one amp or the other is always connnected to the speakers. The nice thing about this box is that it maintains a load on the amp that isn't being used. I don't think this is a big deal with a SS amp but it is with a tube amp. The niles works great and I would highly recommend it.
  11. If he doesn't learn to shorten his replies, he will either be spending a lot more time on hear than he thinks or only answer one question a week.
  12. If you are going to build new grills, think about building a half grill that only covers the woofer section and leaves the mid and high horns exposed. They are almost bullet proof. It would look really cool if you could find a strip of wood for the top edge of the half grill so the Cornwall would like kinda like a mini cornerhorn from the front.
  13. I bought a pair in excellent playing condition and fair condition on the outside 6/10 for $600 about 4 months ago. I saw a pair on Ebay a few weeks ago sell for about $1100. I guess it depends on where you are and who is wanting them and also the condition. Condition for most is probably the biggest factor. Post pictures and numbers here and in the 2 channel forum and you should be able to sell them without much problem. Lots of the forum guys love the speakers so much that they will drive a good ways to pick them up rather than trust them to shipping. I drove about 1000 miles round trip for mine. Good luck. You are going to miss them.
  14. There are a pair of 22E's on ebay but they listed them under klipschorn. I think the bidding ends on Sunday night or Mon. morning.
  15. On the Tonight show with Johnny Carson, Jerry Lawler(pro wrestler) said to andy Kaufman ( Lotka from "taxi",actor, wrestler, showman) "your momma wanted a girl, your daddy wanted a boy, when you were born, they were both happy."
  16. Exactly what I was thinking when I read the first post. Wouldn't it be great for all the owners of the Scott to loan it out to hook newbies on the wonders of tubes. Kinda like giving free samples of herion. Isn't it ironic that on the same day a bunch of guys leave the forum because of bad blood, a showing of good blood springs forth to take their place. Yep, is this is a great forum or what?
  17. It is for a friend of mine. She wants to just restore the electronics so the neat looking old box sounds good. She is about 23 years old and the box is about 40-45. She is a cool hippy chick that just wants it to sound good. She and her room mate are both into vinyl. (both the round flat kind and the wearable clingy/curvy kind) I was a cool hippy dude in a previous life and I am older than the console so it feels good to help her out. She and her room mate are both great neighbors.
  18. Was there a 0 in front of the first 1?
  19. It is in a small console, has 2 tweeters and 2 woofers with only a turn table. The amp has the controls coming down into the side of it from above and the tubes (3 or 4) were all 6*##'s. It had one power tran and one output tran with, I think 2 caps. Had extra inputs on the back end for tuner and tape with an extra phono plug that said something about stereo output. Hope that is enough info for someone to know what it is. One of the woofers has the wires pulled off the coil and the phono arm is missing the needle. I can go get pictures and numbers off the amp if that would help get an idea of what the amp is and if it is worth fixing. The tag on the back of the cabinet says, Victorola, Rca Victor. Cab is about 30" wide, 22" deep and about 30" tall. Grill cloth covers the front with about 5 strips of wood runnning from bottom to top. Thanks.
  20. I think it is great that Amy plays in HER sandbox with us. Feedback is good. Lets us know what is expected and what will get our behind in trouble. What I can tell, you can comment that a particular tube in a certain amp is a piece of junk, but when you call the guy that put that tube in that amp an idiot, you have gone too far. It really isn't that hard to understand, and I am a dumb country boy, born in the greatest state in the country. Said state having provide the most brilliant President this country has ever known and the best horn speakers the world has ever known. OK, if you want to, you can call me an IDIOT for part of what I just said, but please do it OFF LIST so you and this thread won't be.
  21. Edwin, all the drivers and horns in the LaScala and Klipschorn are the same. The Belle is the same except for the mid horn which is shorter.
  22. I started with a pair of LaScalas. Had them for about 6 months. Loved them. Sold them and got a pair of Klipschorns, and a Bell for center. Only one cornerhorn had a corner until I could build a short false wall behind the lower section of the other. I agree that the LaScala is only about 60 to 70% of the cornerhorns. I Could also tell a large difference in the cornerhorns after I completed the false wall behind the one speaker. The Belle is a great speaker but it is more like a LaScala than a Cornerhorn. Get the Cornerhorns and attach a false corner panel to the brick. Even just a 1/2" thick the size of the back of the speaker will make a difference. The following reasons are why I think you will prefer the Cornerhorns. 1. With a decent corner seal, they will seriously out play the LaScala or the Belle. Where I notice the difference was down low. 50-60hz on down. 2. Even though you may have to do some construction to the house to get a good corner the Cornerhorns will be out of the way 24/7 for the rest of your life. The Belle or LaScala will be a thorn in your wifes flesh for the rest of your life. The are 10 times larger than the Cornerhorns in actual life when it comes to used, usable floor space. 3. Would of, could of, should of. You will never have to wish for more.
  23. I have a pair of K77 tweeters that I will sell for $150 including shipping. New diaphragms in both. I was going to build a custom center speaker but lucked up on a Belle instead.
  24. Nevermind. After checking it out more closely, it is my amp. My tube amp has something wrong. The SS amp sounds fine. It wasn't the CD after all.
