I have a pair of KCBR that have been upgraded to KB style. Ser Numbers 9PO43 and 11RO19. They are still terrific but due to size restrictions I must sell. Also a Thorens TD 126 MKIII turnatable and a Nad C 542 CD player plus a Carver the receiver. Nothing new but nice stuff. I live in London Ontario and am ready for a very reasonable offer. Shipping at your cost and as you know K-Horns weigh about 180 lbs.Never tried this before but hope someone in Ontario is looking for a good deal on a pair of well used but still terrific K-Horns.

Patrick Suggest you open up The Receiver and note two relays on the chasis. The contacts get tired from the speaker current. If you can replace the relays do so. Sometimes operating the speaker selection switch will temporarily fix this problem. The Carver is a good receiver. Use one with my Klipschorns for many years. Norm

It must be remembered that before tthe RIAA curve came ino existence there where a pile of different pre equalaization curves used by a lot of record makers. Also the stylus shape and size had a lot of variatons. That is why the Stanton cartridge with it's collection of easily changeable different stylus sizes is excellent when we want to get the best out of some of these older platters. Norm

Anyone that has a 200CD oscilator should be aware that HP published an upgrade to reduce output distortion. Simple mod but unfortunately, I did a couple back in the 1960's and can't find my notes. Worth the effort to find . That was a stable unit that hardly ever required service. Norm

Back in the days I worked for a Telco in the program group We sold mostly 5 khz loops and sometimes 8khz. At that time a lot of musical remotes went through that sounded OK. but as we got into the digital loop world and prices went down stations contracted for better loops. It really comes down to the program material and your own approach. Do you listen to the music and the rhythm or do you listen for that extra bit of bite on a snare drum etc. Norm

Tom You could go to www.carveraudio.com . I was able to purchase a xtal for my receiver through them. Site has all the info. I had the same problem with my speaker relays. Took them out and cleaned the contacts with a relay burnisher. Now if it starts to act up I just operate the speaker selector switch to self clean the contacts. Norm

Bought a NAD C542 a month ago. My Technics died and I foolishly purchased a Panasonic. The aural difference, increase of distortion was terrible. Bought the NAD and I can listen to CD's on my Klipschorns without getting a headache, If you can wait for the NAD you will be pleased with it. Norm

Subjective is the correct approach. The individual who designs a tube or SS amplifier is in control. The parameters used in the design and the cost factors that come into the design, especially with tube amps and the output transformer all play a part in the final sound. The answer is easy . Buy or build the type of amplifier that pleases your ears and enjoy the music. Norm

They look like some of the rack mounted line of RCA amps that where used in many of RCA studios back in those days. Rock solid and trouble free. The speaker hanging on the wall looks like it could have been an LC1A developed by Dr. Olson Norm

Interesting. The meter you have is really not suited for your project. Do you have a tone source for a test signal? I gather you do not want to do any frequency response testing, but what is that you want to set up or acheive? The instruments to check out the Peach and other equipment would probably cost several 100 times the value of the meter mentioned. Norm

Jackpod. Looks like a great room to hear your first Klipschorns in. I have listened to mine in large rooms and small rooms, and gone through the " We won't buy that house because it does not have decent corners." The real reason and perhaps some do not recognize it but after trying a lot of different speakers I keep the Klipschorns because They DO NOT DISTORT WHEN YOU FEED IN A GOOD SIGNAL. the reason for our happiness is plain clean sound. Marvelous information. I hope many of the forum members will have a look at P. 69 Vol. 22 N0 3 for August 1983. Many in this forum seem to forget we are trying to recreate a live performance and we should listen to as much live music as is available to us. Norm

A suggestion is buy the favorite LP of the music that you liked in some other medium and then to get the real enjoyment out of it go to someone like www.needledoctor.com and purchase one of the test records so you can be sure your new arm and cartridge are set up correctly. The right setup, stylus for old mono LP's and the right stylus for stereo LP's will make a tremendous difference in your listening pleasure. Don't forget to buy a record cleaning kit. Some of the enjoyment goes away when you listen to dirty records. Lots of pleasure Norm

This is great. I am a fan of 12 gauge wire and my question is how do you terminate 10 gauge to fit on amplifier or speaker terminals without reducing the gauge? Besides how many of us can hear the difference?Norm

Reading the adds in a paper this morning and saw a person in Beamsville Ontario Canada trying to sell a pair of KCBR horns for $ 2200.00. His phone no. is 905-563-6389 and his wife said phone after 5.30 pm. I have a pair already but if someone is looking it might be a lead. I know nothing about this except reading the add in a paper so hope someone can get a pair of horns that are ok. The price seems about right for the KCBR which is the unfinished Birch plywood with no collar between the base and the upper horn enclosure. Norm

Nice to hear someone would like a Thorens 125. Decided to fire up my old 125 and picked a nice old piano recording by by Sammy Price 0n Sackville recordings. # 3024, My wife the pianist immediately said that sound so much better than the cd's we have been playing for too long, Open sound and like a real piano I agreed and spent the evening enjoying vinyl. The arm is the original that Thorens provided plus the Stanton 680 that allows me to change the stylus for the records I play. No matter what you turntable/arm you obtain enjoy, because there is a lot of great sound in those vinyl grooves that we are ignoring. Now who would like to inform me because I want to buy a SACD player and can not decide if I will be wasting my money on a Sony 777 or such high end CD equipment.

Had the same kind of intermittent buzz varying in time and fixed it by cleaning the cable connectors. Used contact cleaner on them and wiped them all. No buzz problem now. Norm

Back in 1976 when I bought my K-C-FR Khorns I did so because the top of the line the K-B-WO was $ 350.00 more,each. It was and still is terrific speaker. Time goes and we decide to make it look like the B style. To physically put in the spacers and trim plus refinish the two speakers cost $ 205.00 They look terrific now and there was no change in sound. It also made my wife happy. I do suggest, keep the B style, you will not notice any improvement in sound but could ruin the looks of this horn. Norm

I have shipped a pair of Khorns from Vancouver to Toronto and all I did was seperate the Horn top section from the woofer and put a strap on the woofer terminal. The professional moving company , United van lines lines wrapped them in blankets and they arrived in 100% condition. If you get a pro mover to do the job you should have no problems on a land journey. The price was reasonable. Check and get a quote from the pro moving companies, not guys who do not move heavy items all the time across the country, Norm

Interesting measurements. Is it possible that the amp has a bit of very high frequency oscillation as noticed on the scope traces when set to a higher freq. time. Also what are you using for a analyzer? Nice to see the effort to document what you have spent time building. Norm

Enjoyed as several thousand other lurkers did the long string on xover capacitors, and the result that all the electronic testing did not really identify what is best. The result comes down to the individual listeners decision. What type of source material do the experts use and how often do the same individuals go out and find some unamplified source of music to recalibrate the listeners hearing? Norm
