  1. Sorry I spent my $3500 on 2004 La Scalas could not wait till I had $7000. Xman
  2. I'll try and make it. I work nights at Dell and we work alot of weekends so not sure but I'll try and make it. Xman
  3. Very nice!! Still need to come down to SA sometime when you guys have a meeting and check em out. How many watts? Xman
  4. Congrats!! Need to put my SM 70 pros on Audiogon also. Xman
  5. Try this forum they should have some people who know everything about your Luxman gear. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/luxman/ Xman
  6. maybe he just likes the bass better in the "mid-bass ~50Hz region ". If it works for him I say enjoy no matter how many label you crazy. Xman
  7. You may not have a claim now since you fixed it. Not sure of all the legal stuff but it probablly will take a huge amount of time and probably money to get your insurance money back and you will probably lose money in the process. Xman
  8. Don't know how close you are to the US border but you might be able to find a pair close to the Canada/US border. I know the taxes would be high but it would probably cost less than new. However speaking from personal experience it was really fun to be the first person to own a pair of 2004 La Scalas. Had a huge grin on my face after taking them out of the boxes!! If your budget can handle new then get em!! If it would be hard to do look for a pair in the US close to you. Xman
  9. I agree go ahead and get them!! I knew the size of my living room would not give me the absolute best sound but they still give me excellent sound. Later when I move into a bigger living room they will match better. Don't misunderstand me about the quality of sound I get from my La SCalas they sound great! The good thing about La Scalas is that they are not corner dependent like the KHorns so you can move them around to get the best sound in your living room. With the amp you have the bass will sound great anywhere you put the speakers. I have mine about 13 feet apart and I sit about 9 or 10 feet back. For you 16-18 apart and 11-12 feet from the couch should work but you will have to experiment with it all. Again I was not trying to talk you out of buy the La SCalas. I just want to make sure before you understand there are many things that can affect the way Heritage speakers sound. I've had mine a year and a half and have not regretted getting them. Tofu has La Scalas in a 11 x 11 x 8 and did not think they were much of an improvement until he made the risers I mentioned, put some ruggs up on the walls and a few other things. Your living room is bigger than mine so I don't think it will be a problem. Xman
  10. Hey Murf I have a Terk powered FM antenea that I don't even use. If you still have problems after getting it back from the shop you can have this Terk antenea and see if it helps any. I live in Austin also, well just outside it and have some Klipsch La Scalas and just posted on your radio post. Nice to have another Austin Klipsch owner on the forum. Xman/James
  11. Hey Murf nice to see a fellow Austin Klipsch owner on the forum!! I've noticed more of us on the forum. May have to see if we can set up a Austin KLipsch get together. Whenever I drive down to San Antonio just after I leave San marcos I start losing reception to KLBj during the day. But at night I have made it all the way to SA and then started to lose it. So I don't understand the science but at night radio stations are stronger and better sounding. Sometimes at night I tune in to a rock station and get a country station for a moment. Enjoy your Klipsch but be careful the next thing you know you will have a bigger pair of Klipsch, and then a bigger, and then you have to upgrade your whole stereo. It's a vicious cycle so be careful I know from personal experience!! Xman
  12. JPM how big is your listening area? The most expensive upgrade I still need to do is by a new house with a BIG living room!!!!!! When I got my 2004 La Scalas in my 15 x 15 x 8 living room and CRANKED EM UP WHOA taling about being overpowered. Don't get me wrong they sound great up to a point but at a certain volume level they stop sounding incredible and no longer have bass, midrange, and treble. Just one massive wall of sound that throughs me back. But if your lucky and have a good size listening area then your going to be in Heaven!! Enjoy your new toys I have and I have barely taped their potential!! When you get em try this simple mod. One thing I noticed about the La Scalas is that the bass bin is aiming at your legs and lower belly, the midrange horn is aiming at your chest, and the treble horn at your uper chest neck. Without the risers the La Scalas seemed bright and harsh like some people say because everything is too low. So some people angle the speaker up a few inches so the bass, midrange, and treble are aiming more at your ears. I went ahead and made some 6 1/2 inch risers for mine. This helped the bass blend better with the midrange and treble. Now my bass bin is aiming at my knees up to my upper chest, midrange horn level with my face and the tweeter horn just above earlevel. I think another reason the KHorn bass is so good is that the bass bin is almost taller than people sitting on a couch or chair. So the bass is hitting your entire body and you feel it more. I just took some 2 x 4s and plywood and made the risers. I've thought about raising them higher but when I move the couch back and sit on the floor the soundstage is too high. With the height I have them now the soundstage is in front of me. Now if you are sitting 15 or 20 feet back it may not make as much a difference since the horns would be aiming more at your whole body. I sit about 9 feet back so it helps mine sound better. Give it a try and see if it helps. Xman
  13. Some subs sound boomy to me instead of that fast tight bass he is talking about. If you listen to a lot of music that has bass below say 45 hz then find a sub and your in bidness. Back in the eightes my friend had La Scalas with a Luxman preamp and one day a guy brought over 2 Mac 250 watt amps and your right power really brought out the bass!! Xman
  14. Paul I have 2004 La Scalas and have wanted to try biamping with the amp of my Luxman int amp and a Cayin tube int amp. Are you using 2 y-connectors on the preouts so you can run a left and right to the LF and the HF? MY Luxman has bass and trebble controls so I should still be able to use those. Dean you said most tube amps don't have 16 ohm speaker wire connectors but mine does should I use it for the HF? Xman
  15. Sorry about selling your gear! I have a 2004 Luxman int amp that sounds great and I've had other Luxman stuff so it may not be the Blueberry but it's still some of the best Solid state stuff you can get. Hope everything works out. Xman
  16. Next Tuesday I'm going to get it and Sin City. I meant to see KFH in the theater but never made it. I've found that the surround sound is better in my home theater than at the movies. So unless it's something like Star Wars, etc I don't go to the theater. Xman
  17. Sorry to hear about that!! I had my alpine car stereo stolen back in college so it does suck having it happen. I took a picture of all my receits for my stereo gear and then took a pic of each one and put them on a CD I keep in my file cabinet. But I need to update it and I should look into a alarm system for my house since it seems to have worked for you. I know insurance companies usually will take around 10% off if you get one. Xman
  18. I have two Monarchy Audio SM 70 pros. They are 80 watt monoblocks or 35 watt stereo amps. When I get home I'll post some pics and price. What kind of preamp do you have? Xman
  19. I have a NAD C542 and a Denon 2900 DVD universal player. For cd playback I use the C542 if I had to choose one. For SACD the Denon sounds very good! One thing about SACD and DVD audio is if whoever remixes it into this 5.1 channel format does not know what they are doing the discs can sound terrible. So read reviews on the discs before buying anty. The Denon 1910, 2910, 3910, etc may sound as good or better than my C542 but until I buy one I won't know. I say if you need a new DVD player just get the 1910. Then find a NAD dealer in your area and ask to take home the cd player and demo it against the 1910 to see if it is worth having both. Also depends if you have the money to spend. Good luck! Yes a good SACD and DVD audio disc will beat a good cd but that is my view. I'm sure there are people who do not agree. A good cd will beat a bad SACD. Xman
  20. Last week bought a Transcendent Sound Ground Grid tube preamp from a forum member. He shipped it from Houston TX to Austin TX by FEdex. Took it out of the box and heard screwss rolling around, uh oh! Started to take the lid off but did not need a screwdriver since all the screws holding the lid in place were half unscrewed. Took off the lid and one of the circuit boards was turned a quarter turn away from the screw holes. One wire going from one circuit board to the quarter turned circiut board was not connected. Plus had screws inside the chassis rolling around. Filed initial claim but decided to fix the wire and connected circuit board back to chassis. It happens with all carriers UPS, Fedex and whatever ohters. It seems that mine was fixable unfortunetly your is in worse shape. This is one negative with buying things over the internet since they have to ship it to you. Hope it turns out okay!! Xman
  21. I fixed the preamp last night and tried it out with mixed results so far. Still have to try the SM 70 Pros and a Cayin TA 30 tube amp. Once I try the other amps I'l post the results. Xman
  22. I'm not switching back to my cassette deck just was curious about it. On cds that are very bright a tape could help reduce the brightness and make it a little more enjoyable. If you record a classical cd onto tape without any Dolby noise reduction the hiss would be heard easily. But with noise reduction it would sound better than you realize. But like I said it was a interesting experiment but now that i know how to make quality burnt CDs I do not have a reason to use cassette. Xman
  23. I think it is cause of the 2 heads instead of 3. Xman
  24. Congrats on the La Scalas!! They just fill up your room with sound don't they. I have a pair of 2004 and love em!! I love the bass and don't use my RSW 12 with them cause the sub just sounds boomy to me! I made 6 1/2 inch risers for mine and the bass, midrange, and treble really blended together. Right now the bass bin is firing at your legs, the midrange horn at your chest and the treble is right below your chin. Risers can will lift every thing up higher. Now my bass bin is firing at my chest, midrange level with my face and the treble is just above my ears. You can adjust the height of the riser till you get the best sound. I sold my KLF 20s to my best friend. I took them down to his house and hooked em up and fired em up and with his system they were bright! So he had a couple of crates that raised them up by 10 inches to almost the hight of KHorns and much much better. Bass was better, midrange was smoother and treble was not harsh. I used 2 x 4s and 2'x 2' 3/4 inch plywood and braced the inside with 2 x 4. Can do it in a after noon and by extra plywood so you can raise the speakers higher to see how you like the sound. Once you get the height right you can make a nice pair of risers. If this is too much trouble then put something under the speakers so the fron is raised up and that might be enough for you. Enjoy the speakers!! Xman
