  1. where does the "55 people out of 100 can" come from? Also - we took a look at this in school... you can make that same statement MUCH more difficult to read if you rearrange the letters "better" while still leaving the first and last letters in the correct place. Obviously, as the length of the word increases, so CAN the difficulty if you don't put letters near to where they are supposed to be.
  2. I take it no one else has had this problem? And does anyone have a clue why it happens on all those sources with these earphones, but not with my other sets of headphones?
  3. $500-$700 last I heard. Which is why I got the PS3.
  4. Thanks for the input - I'll give that a try =) I always thought sharpies would leave a purplish sheen or something... Would you use a sharpie for a larger scuff (say 1/2" x 1/2")?
  5. I have some very slight scraches on my 83s - nothing deep, no dents. It hasn't affected the grain of the wood, the black finish is all that has been removed. How could I go about touching them up? Thanks!
  6. I've plugged them into my laptop, wifes ipod touch, a TV, desktop computer - all have the "phhh" sound. I used them on my iphone and FINALLY the sound is gone. However these are a very late gift to my sister (who told me of the problem with the previous pair) and they do make the sound on her ipod and her computer, so its a no go. I guess it could be said that the problem is the source, since I found one where the problem doesn't exist, but how come all my other pairs of headphones work on all those sources just fine?
  7. my favorites too. I'm placing an order for 40 soon =)
  8. I've bought 2 pairs of custom 1s and returned both because no matter what source they were plugged into, as soon as I plug them in a get a "phhhhhhh" sound. It disappears as soon as music is playing, unless it is extremely quiet, but it bothers me nonetheless. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm considering picking up a 3rd pair to try again if I'm the only one who's experienced this...
  9. Ordered from an ebay seller, sent back as they had a "phhhh" noise. It was hell going through paypal for that. I won't be going that route again. Just bought a second pair from amazon, got them within a week (custom 1s). These too have a "phhhhhhhhhhhhhh" sound when plugged into any source (tried multiple computers, ipods and a cd player). At least the amazon return deal is nice. Vann's has them for ~$70 shipped right now. I may go that route and try a 3rd set...
  10. I just asked for 1 of each, but it would be nicer to sell them all at once I'm sure. We'll see! I'll be keeping my eye out for a 511b - how would you go about cutting the flanges off?
  11. Hi all! This is in regards to this post: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/116760.aspx and the wonderful cabinet I picked up because of it. What I really want to do right off the bat is make this SING! All I have is the cabinet – I need a tweeter (& horn), mid (& horn), a woofer and a crossover. What I don’t know is which components to pursue. Is it worth trying to get the current drivers Klipsch is selling and putting in their latest klipschorns, or would older models be the way to go? I imagine that the components I get will affect the crossover I choose… There is a thread in the garage sale forum: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/116854.aspx for Khorn parts and the price looks great, would those be a good way to go for this cabinet? Any and all advice is appreciated – I can’t wait to get it up and running =) Pics will be posted soon!
  12. I got it to my parents house and did a little digging - the serial number is 590, (I'll post a pic of the tag soon) and written on one of the boards is "February 22, 1954." I wasn't allowed (wife!) to bring it to my house until I finish up my heresy project and get those off to my cousin, so I left it at my parents in Sammamish =) I am so excited about this speaker - I'm just not exactly sure what to do with it (read: what components to put in it!). I will need to get mid and upper horns, all drivers and a crossover. Should I go with the stuff that was originally in this in '54, or put some of the newer gear in it? I'll be looking up many a thread here I think. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. I'll be back down to take more pictures of it in the week, and hopefully I'll have it at my place within the next month or so! KHorn if you do have an extra '54 mid horn lets talk =)
  13. I plan on having 7.1 someday, and the plan is to have rs-62 sides and rb-81/61 rears.
  14. How would rs-42s sound with my RF-83s? I think I'll be ordering a rc-64 in the next month, and will be buying rs-62s in the future, but not immediately. There are some used 42s selling near me and I was wondering how they would hold up paired with the 83s for a few months. As soon as I bought the 62s, I would sell the 42s for the same amount I'd be buying them for now... thoughts?
  15. Hey, so long as you called them back and let them know it was your bad - then its all good =) Congrats on the new *and working* sub =)
  16. I own 5.1s and have heard 4.1s - yes, there is a noticable difference that you'll like. OTOH, I haven't really heard of 4.1's failing, and I've heard a lot about amp failures in the 5.1 Ultras (I'm sending mine in soon for a repair cost of $125, not including shipping to klipsch)
  17. Sounds like they aren't going to continue making the conquest forever either... I NEED A SIGNING BONUS!!!
  18. And I would spend that same amount of money on an xpa-5, xpa-2 and xmc-1 from emotiva =)
  19. IMO- In my opinion IMHO - In my humble opinion
  20. She might say, " you get nothing for a month ". LOL - thats what my wife would say if I tried to pull that! =D
  21. I originally was running my RF-83's off of a Denon AVR 2106 - far from top of the line but rated at 7x100 - I only ever ran 2 channels with it so it *should* have been giving at least the full 100 per channel. When I switched from that to using my HK 730 (the one made in the 70s) - the change was very noticable - and that was supposedly going to 40(?) watts per channel - however *clean* watts or whatnot. I just hooked up my xpa-5 last night. I've only listened for about 2 hours, but the change is there (hello headroom for one!), and my wife notices it too. =) There's much more than that - but I'm not writing up my review in this thread - I just wanted to see what people might think about a $2600 all-in-one vs 2 awesome amps and a powerhouse pre-pro! My guess is the emotiva setup would stomp the HK =) (And remember - I own equipment from both, albeit my HK is certainly vintage lol)
  22. How would this beast compare with an emotiva xpa-2 ($800), xpa-5 ($800) and and xmc-1 ($999) ($2600 total). I guess we can't say yet as the xmc isn't detailed, but the umc is...
  23. heck - I'm hoping the come out with some newer more expensive speakers, so I can finish off my reference set for less =D Ask anyone with an older reference series - someone who has the RF-7s if they are unhappy in the slightest! =)
  24. congrats! I'm jealous =D can't wait to order some for myself, but it'll be a while yet...
