  1. A push-pull integrated might be just what you are looking for. They have the tube sound plus the power to make those Cornwalls open up, and would be generally in your stated price range. I really like my Scott 299D (NOSValves rebuilt) with my Cornwalls. David
  2. Cornwalls would be a used item. Either the Cornwall (discontinued in 1985) or the later Cornwall II (discontinued in 1989) will sound great with your HK 430. Heresys will sound good, but Cornwalls are the way to go in my opinion. With the HK 430, you will not need a sub with Cornwalls.
  3. Cornwalls with an HK 430. Best sound possible for under $1K
  4. Depending upon the source material, I think some music sounds better in 2-channel and some better in multi-channel. Most live performance DVDs or SACDs sound better to me in multichannel, but not all. The "oldies" that are being remixed and re-released in multi-channel usually do not sound right to me.
  5. If the Jazz Lady isn't performing, then I'm not gonna come!
  6. The main reason I'm coming back to Indy this year is to hear Roger sing again!
  7. The early KG4s were rated 4 ohms. I've owned both the 4 and the 6 ohm KG4s and did not notice much of a difference. On an amp with 4 Ohm taps I would use the 4 ohm taps with the KG4s.
  8. Mr. Guido, welcome to the forum. About 10 years ago picked up a pair of JBL bookshelf speakers at a garage sale, and for the heck of it I set them on my KG4s and ran them together. The sound volume increased dramatically, and while not as refined, when I wanted to listen loud to rock music, this was the ticket. When I got my Cornwalls the JBLs went to the garage and the KG4s went to the bedroom. Anyway, my point is, if you like the way it sounds, who cares if you break some rules. BTW, the old HK x30 receivers do match up really well with Klipsch.
  9. 45 isn't so old! 1960 babies rule! HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY!
  10. Klipsch service has been rocking for a long time. In 1985, one of the woofers in my brand new KG4s developed a buzz at low frequencies. I called Klipsch (after getting poor service from the dealer). Several days later a Klipsch rep came to my house (260 miles from Hope, AR) and exchanged all four of the woofers, just in case. He said they would analyze the defective woofer to determine the root cause of the failure. This was a new product and I think they were concerned about premature failures. I'm happy to report that those four replaced woofers are still rocking too!
  11. "Some very popular mainstream techno artists that are easy and fun to listen to, without too much druggie-induced funkadelic acidtrip hooks" Nicholtl, That sounds like what I'm looking for LOL! I'll try to stop at BB on the way home from work this evening. Thanks, David
  12. This Saturday night we're hosting a party for a couple getting married (both in their early 40s). There will be a diverse group and I would like to be able to offer a little of everything music wise, but I have absolutely zero "techno" music. Can someone recommend a couple of easy-to-find (at Best Buy or Target) techno CDs that will work well at a party. I've heard some cool sounding techno stuff in movies, but I have no idea of what artists would be good. Thanks!
  13. I've listened to Khorn, Lascala, Cornwall I, Cornwall II, Heresy I, same room, same amplification and source, same day, on several occasions. IMO, here's how I would rate them for all-around listening: 1. Khorn 2. Cornwall I 3. Cornwall II 4. Lascala 5. Heresy I That said, the line up can change for specific types of music. The Lascala is incredible for listening to electric guitar stuff like Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the Cornwall I is great for Jazz. A twenty-something friend came over with some Rap CDs, and he liked the Cornwall IIs better than the Khorns or the CWI (in his opinion). BTW, the Heresy is an awesome rear surround speaker with big Heritage up front. Also, the higher sensitivity speakers (Khorn and to some degree Lascala) are merciless in revealing amplificaion and source flaws. Of course on a scale of 1 to 10, the best of the group is a 10 and the worst is a 9!.
  14. "Man, the things I would say IF I could..." Go ahead. We won't tell! Very cruel thing to make us wait for the Indy weekend .
  15. "This Shinall looks like a great deal! -- Maybe they'll make some Jublilee like Speakers too!" There is no "they", just one man building the Shinall speakers. Although his corner horn sounds very much like the K-horn, he is certainly no threat to Klipsch.
  16. If it werent so dang far from Texas I'd be there. I had the pleasure of meeting Tom this past January in Dallas. A heck of a nice guy and a wealth of knowledge (audio and other topics as well!).
  17. Some guys have all the fun! Great posts and pics.
  18. She has upped the price to $6850.
  19. Check out this link. http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm
  20. It took about 24 hours for my wife to talk to me after I brought mine home. Of course I didn't discuss it with her in advance. She came around when she had to admit that they look really great in the living room, and they sound wonderful.
  21. When I saw the Stones in '81 they opened with "Under My Thumb". But "Miss You" always seemed to pack the dance floor at the clubs in those days.
  22. Erukian, Have you had an opportunity to compare the Teac AL700P with the Sonic Impact? I have the SI and I think it is a little weak in the bass, but the high end clarity and imaging is very good on my Khorns. For 99 bucks I guess I should get a Teac and do my own comparison, LOL! Nice review BTW.
  23. I was standing in line at BB yesterday with my copy of the DVD when I noticed the man ahead of me with a copy, I said, "So you must have kids too". He replied "I'm the kid". The Disney/Pixar movies are really great.
  24. Dr. Who, Be careful with the gf house nurse situation, you never know where it will lead. I had knee surgery 19 years ago and my gf (who was an RN) took real good care of me. We were married a year later! Still married BTW. Hope you recover quickly. Michael, Website photo? I'm disappointed. Surely you have similar work of your own that you could share with us!
  25. Dave, I think that is the Pioneer model DV 578A. It replaced the DV 563A, the model that I have and like very much, but not as much as the Philips 963 that I just bought. Yesterday I set them both up on my Cornwall/Yamaha system and did the A/B between the two units. For SACD, the Pioneer DV 563A sounds slightly "thinner" (for lack of a better word), than the Philips 963SA. For a reference SACD I used Steely Dan's Gaucho. This was a very slight difference to my ears, but noticeable in the A/B comparison. IMO the biggest difference was with CDs. The upsampling Philips was smoother with better imaging than the Pioneer. I also it bettered my Audio Alchemy DAC which is a little bright IMO. The reference CD was Dire Straits Making Movies. This is not to say the Pioneer is not a decent unit, especially for the price. I talked to a technical guy at Poineer a while back about the difference between the DV 563A and the DV 578A. They have upgraded the video DAC from 10-bit/54MHz to 12-Bit/108MHz, but the audio DAC is the same. They dropped the SRS TruSurround to save on the production costs (who needs this anyway?). So the newer unit should perform as well or better than the older unit, which is very good for the meager price it sells for. E-mail me sometime and come over for a listen (I might even have a few "bears" in the fridge to make things sound even better!). Give me a little time and I'll have that capacitor mod done on the 963 that everyone is recommending. David
