  1. I use an RC 3 II with a set of La Scala's. Ideally you want to at least stay within the same system line. For example keep Heritage with Heritage and Reference with Reference, this will produce the best timbre match. That being said the RC 7 will work and there will be some timbre mismatch but I have not noticed it enough to make me run out get a Heritage for my center channel yet. I am going to do that in the long run but my RC 3 II is dong a nice job until I can afford to. If he has the option of getting a Heritage for his center I would recommend that by all means but if one is not easily obtained then I would say use the RC 7. Horn Ed will take this recommendation on if he reads it and he would be correct in doing so but sometimes you have to make do.
  2. Play something you enjoy listeing too. For me its Jazz or Blue, then Classical. But the main thing is just enjoy them and welcome to the Heritage owners club!!!!! Yep just enjoy them, they'll last you a lifetime.
  3. Yep I agree, PWK is the reason I am here. SALUTE!!!!! I'll turn it up a few extra db in his honor.
  4. I would go with 2 RF 7's, an RC-7 and 4 RB 75's. However you cannot go wrong w/a recommendation from Horn Ed having read many of his threads since I joined I would say he is a definitive authority. I would stay away from the RS-X stuff unless you have a very small room
  5. It was also the quickest dismantling of a member by forum members that I have ever seen, in short it was awesome. But a hearty well done to the moderators for taking out the trash
  6. So by your standard the 56 Vette, an original Shelby Cobra, or perhaps a vintage Victorian era house are ancient relics in need of replacement. My advice listen to a set of Heritage speakers first. The Promedia 5.1 are ok for you computer! But if you really want to hear what you are missing and believe me you are definitely missing it. Get a set of Heritage speakers. As for their looks I believe the Belle Klipsch and the Klipschorn are two of the most aesthetically beautiful speakers ever produced then you add the sound. For that matter my La Scalas look great. There is a reason why people keep these for life. No doubt they dominate the room they are in, but IMO they are supposed to do that. So yeah you got flamed a little.
  7. I would keep the La Scala's. The RF-7's are a good sounding efficient speaker but I believe the La Scala's have a fuller more natural sound. I've owned mine about as long as you've had yours. I know the WAF factor on these things is not very good. That having been said I would like to quote Mr. Charleton Heston - "From my cold dead hands" will anyone take my La Scala's. It took some work but I finally got the wife to accept and enjoy them. I actually was tempted, as you are at the moment, to replace them with RF-7s, but after demoing the RF-7s and then coming home to listen to my La Scalas I knew I could not replace that sound. Obviously its your choice but if you want an opinion and mine is likely to replicate what most will offer you, keep the La Scalas.
  8. Nice work they look beautiful (both cases). One question though when are you going to come by to start on my La Scala's. Seeing the work you have both done has got me itching to try my hand at it on my La Scala's. My main concern is the bass bin cabinet area though. No idea how to do that without completely disassembling the speaker. If I have my way Id rather not do that. Anyway they really look beautiful. My long-range pan is to buy 2 pair of Heresys and veneer them all to match.
  9. "The Constitution of the United States provides for "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness" For ALL Americans, even Queers." Actually the right to the pursuit of happiness referred to the right of free men to own property, and had nothing to do with pursuing happiness or being happy. Not to mention it was in the Declaration of Independence and not the Constitution. While you can be queer and be here, nothing says you are actually guaranteed happiness or the pursuit of it. The constitution even with its equal protection provision also in effect prevents Gay marriage. As in your state cant pass a law and make my state abide by it. Obviously this can change if a majority of states pass laws to acknowledge/accept it, but as for now those opposing it have a stronger legal foot to stand on given the US Supreme Ct tends to lean right. Although the Constitution does not give the SC the power to rule over it, Thomas Jefferson is responsible for accepting judicial review not our beloved framing document. Oh well it will be an interesting battle especially when you consider a gay man or woman still can marry one of the opposite sex thus retaining the equal rights they claim to be denied. The law is applied equally to all. The fact that straights cant marry gays either would suggest the laws are being applied without prejudice. Oh well just a thought. Now why is this question in this forum anyway?
  10. Why am I here?!?!? Well about 25 years ago still a teenager I heard about these things called Klipschorns. And I got intrigued, obsessed, mesmerized and just had to hear them. Stereo systems/music have always been a minor obsession with me. So, I joined the Navy shortly after high school and I actually chose orders to Yokosuka Japan because I heard the deals on audio equip there were legendary and they were. At 22 I bought my La Scala's and a Denon/DBX/Nakamichi powered system to make my La Scala's sing and sing they did. Now 20 years later I still have the La Scala's (its likely Ill be buried with them), a Yamaha RX-V3300 receiver. Most of my system is in the upgrade category meaning it needs to be replaced. I have a set of RB-15's filling the temp roll of rear surrounds and an RC 3II as my center. Hopefully before too long I'll have 4 Heresys to go with the La Scala's. I come to the forum because I find the wealth of experience and occasional pitching of shiite is both valuable and entertaining. I am 42/Male/married/ and live in San Marcos, CA. And remember got no highs and got no lows must be Bose.
  11. Well Klipsch has redeemed itself to a degree. After an e-mail expressing my complete dissatisfaction to Klipsch Customer Service, I was informed they have a vendor who has failed to supply the woofers. Now production has been affected as well. Klipsch did right by me by pulling a woofer from a production unit and sending it to me. I got it today. I would like to thank Mr. Gerry Power for complying with my request and bringing an end to this evolution. I think this could have been avoided if a couple of things had happened; I should have been informed of the vendors failure to deliver the product instead of just giving me backorder dates and I should not have been charged until the order was filled. That having been said I would like to state that at least in my opinion Klipsch has honored their end of the bargain.
  12. Space_Cowboy, I know exactly the joy you are experiencing. I felt it first when I bought mine back in the 80's. I long to own Khorns one day, but I so much love my La Scala's I don't know how I could relegate them to a role other then being my main speakers. I have a small HT set up that I must use a set of monopole surrounds and a center from the Reference line due to room size constraints. The Reference speakers sound good for their purpose but the La Scala's are singularly impressive. The La Scalas produce such a natural sound with so little effort. I am always amazed at how a piano or percussion set or string instruments and horns sound when these speakers are singing away. Ive been to countless stereo or I guess today I should call them audio or audio video stores, who promise to show me how newer more modern technology has left my beloved La Scalas behind. I let them demo their wares and realize they have never heard a set of Klipsch fully horn loaded Heritage speakers. These truly are a work of art. Enjoy, stop pinching yourself and welcome to the fully horn loaded world of Klipsch Heritage line. Paul W was truly a man vision and inspiration, and his designs hold testament to that very fact.
  13. Well I would look on E-bay and consider a pair of Hereseys or whatever heritage speakers you can get save some more and repeat the process.
  14. I would be interested in what you come up with for xo and cabinet mods. I was thinking ALK's for the xos but cabinet mods to help match bigger Heritage series sounds interesting too. If its not too much trouble could you publish you cabinet dimensions when you work it out. I am interested in putting Heresys in my system as a center and rear surrounds to go along with my La Scalas.
  15. Back in the 80's and into the 90's I would have told you to steer clear of a yamaha/klipsch marriage. I would have told you Denon and Klipsch are a near perfect mating however today I myself am now using a Yamaha/Klipsch set up for my HT, which is also doubles my main 2 channel as well. I use the RX V3300 it does not have the YPAO and I have not noticed a need for it. The unit you are talking about does have YPAO and I think its a good thing. The parametric EQ vs. a straight fixed freq/Q EQ is a much better option. As for the online support and warranty info, you can contact Yamaha directly to ask about that. http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/products.htm
  16. Use an antiwicking tool its like a pair of tweezers than comes in individual gauge sizes. You place it between the insulation and the point where you want the wicking to stop. The wire fits in a cone like end of the tweezers that run along the wire. What gauge wire are you needing to tin with a solder pot?
  17. I use a Yamaha RX-V3300 and I am really happy with it. I used to have a Denon/Dbx combo but the channel imaging began to bleed together. They were 20 years old so I updated. Anyway years ago I would have exclusively said Denon and tried to dissuade you from Yamaha but not now. I am not a big Pioneer fan but I have not demod their Elite line. I know their Plasma's look good and I do have a Pioneer LD player and its a pretty nice unit. I guess the long and short of it is demo them and pick what you like. When you do demo make sure the same intangibles are used so you'll be comparing peers rather than the default setup the retailer has, which is likely to be sure to be biased towards his bigger ticket items. The RF 7's are very efficient so power should not be your primary concern but don't under power your system.
  18. I use Monster Cable. Its not the most expensive they sell I could not tell you what its specific Monster Cable name is. I do know this, your 12 gauge with the proper terminations comment is accurate. Anything else is a waste of money. I used to have a site book marked that disclosed the 12 major lies quoted about speaker wire. If I can find the URL I will post it. Look at the internal wiring used for your speakers. If you match that you are good to go.
  19. IMO any Dennon or Yamaha should do nicely for your HT receiver. Some here like the Pioneer Elite line. There is a myriad of options when it comes to the HT receiver market. My best advice though is don't under power your system. Amp clipping is not good for speakers. As for Model numbers I use a Yamaha RV 3300, a 6.1 although you can sort of set up a pseudo 8.1 with low power front effect speakers or use them as a zone 2 set up. 5.1 is pretty much the standard. 6.1 uses a rear center and I know of no media that uses it other than a false rear center. That having been said I am in no way an HT authority. I do like my RV 3300 very much. The RC 7 and RB 75 should match nicely. I would use the RS 7's for surround if you are going all Reference line. My personal preference is to one day have an all heritage HT but that will take time. I've had my La Scala's for 20 years and love them. I have an RC 3 II and a set of RB 15's. I am not a big fan of the reference line, they sound good, but Klipsch' parts support is very poor IMO. See my post in Technical Questions.
  20. Well they (Klipsch) have pushed the shipment back again this time until 3/22. If this is Klipsch' idea customer service it s a joke. Their heritage speakers were great when Paul W. ownend the company but this is rediculous. I will be filing a formal compaint with/against the company and I doubt I will ever buy another Klipsch porduct. This is realy a shame, a once truly great speaker company has turned into a poorly run second rate organization.
  21. I would say La Scala's hands down. I've owned mine for 20 years. I demo'd Cornwalls when I bought them and IMHO there was no choice, I believe the La Scala's are more versatile. I listen to a variety of music from jazz to classical to rock and even an occasional C&W and IMO the La Scalas were better suited for people a diverse taste in music. If you listen to mostly rock maybe the Cornwalls would suit you. I love the fully horn loaded sound as a preference to the BASS reflex option. However, if possible demo them both its your ears that have to tell you what to go with. Most opinions here are going to be biased one way or the other based on individual preferences, but demo them both if you can, then buy and then most of all ENJOY!!!!!!
  22. Congrats to a new fellow La Scala owner. I've had mine for 20 years now and I love them as much today as when I first bought them. The night I picked them up from the NEX warehouse the attendant asked "What are you going to do rock a disco?" I smiled and said no just a neighborhood. I lived in Japan then so they made a big splash.
  23. Hey guys I appreciate all of your suggestions I will see what I can do. I have been dealing with the parts dept exclusively on this.
  24. Not covered by the warranty already checked, same as if I dropped em. I have no problem with them not being covered by the warranty, I should not have placed them on to of the couch but it was convenient at the time as they are hung from the ceiling. But I am justified at the bill first and then fail to deliver issue. Once Klipsch took my money or in my case posted the bill to my card, my order should have been prioritized that is just sound customer relations policy. I am in no way down on the entire Klipsch product line just their support. How would you feel if you had say a Volvo S 40 and damaged the transmission at your own doing and Volvo charged you for a new one and failed to deliver it in a timely manner because it was a new product line. That is a fairly thin veil to put over this and Klipsch by their own admission said the parts dept cant get the parts to deliver even though they have them available for production. The quote I got was that This is a significant source of frustration for the parts dept. The delay of one pair of production RB 15s will cost them less than this type of business practice. The company I work both manufactures and services their products. If we have a need to fill a requisition for a repair part and its available in the production line we pull it and issue it to the customer. We are big enough to absorb Klipsch into one of our divisions and not notice the difference in available labor force.
