  1. It's your system, so mix and match to your hearts (and ears) content... Most of us started with a system we pieced together that wasn't necessarily the "best" match. The KLF-30, Forte or Chorus II will all work up front. You'll just have to decide if the difference between fronts and center is okay to your ears. If you go with the KLF-30, you could move the 10's to surround, and then either keep the Rc-7 as a center or move it to a single center back. You could sell the RS-7's to fund a KLF-C7 center or use them as back surrounds and sell the RC-7 to fund a KLF-C7. That would be a killer setup with mostly KLF models. Forte or Chorus II introduce another model/timbre. Forte would match best with an Academy Center (getting hard to find) or another Forte. Chorus II (with the updated Tractrix midrange) doesn't really have a designated center. The best match is either a Quartet, Forte II or another Chorus II, since they all have a Tractrix midrange. Though a KLF-C7 is probably the closest "center style" match. That is also a great setup and one I personally worked my way through. I started with some Forte II's and KLF-C7, then Chorus II's with a Quartet and finally Chorus II's with a Forte II center. Then I started all over with LaScalas... Regardless of what you put together, you've already got a better system than many people ever hear. So enjoy building it the way you want it, even if it's not an ideal timber match initially.
  2. These ads have a Gmail address listed in the body of the ad, and it's the only way to reply. If you email them they reply that the item is already sold. But if you go to the website that they provide in the reply email, then you can "get the same deal"? I'm not willing to visit that website to find out what happens, but good luck..
  3. Rogue One will be out in December of this year... It will be the story of how the plans for the Death Star were stolen. The first teaser trailer was released today.
  4. Trading RF-7's for in-wall speakers??? Go listen to a pair of in-wall speakers and if that doesn't convince you of your mistake, then check yourself into the nearest mental health facility. I'm sorry but a few a few square feet of floor space isn't worth that trade.
  5. I think I read that Porsche has a car with a 500 hp gas and 400 hp electric motors. The electric system runs on 800v. Those are the LeMans prototypes of the World Endurance Series. They follow a different set of specs. Lots of technology in that series as well. Heavier, enclosed wheels, all-wheel drive, but still very fast. They run a 6 hour endurance at Circuit Of The Americas, using the same track, and the Audi R18 has the lap record... about 9 seconds a lap slower than the F1 cars. Audi has been running a turbo diesel in that series for years and was winning everything until Toyota and then Porche re-entered the series over the last few years. http://www.porsche.com/usa/eventsandracing/motorsport/worksracing/racingcars/919-hybrid/featuresandspecs/ http://www.gizmag.com/porsche-919-hybrid-lmp1-vs-audi-r18-e-tron-quattro-vs-toyotats040/31081/
  6. The peak cornering and braking forces on the F1 cars are amazing! The current turbo 1.6 liter V6's, with the electric motors and batteries, are just now getting down to the lap times of the old 3 liter V10's (from 10 years ago). And most of that (cornering & braking) is through aerodynamic improvement. The V10's back then were making nearly 1000 HP at 19000 rpm, but the current power units (turbo V6 & electric motor) are somewhere in the 800 HP range. I'm not a big fan of having an electric motor, battery and energy recovery system in an F1 car. It's supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsports... But it's become (in my opinion) more of a fuel mileage contest since the amount of fuel and the maximum fuel rate are limited. And I can't imagine trying to remember what all the switches on the steering wheel do while driving at those speeds and forces. The MotoGP race is this Sunday. I'm going to try and get down to Circuit Of The Americas for the day. It's about 3 hours each way from the Dallas area, so I'll see if I can work it out. General admission tickets are $60, plus parking. As far as last season... I'm a Valentino Rossi fan.
  7. Oh I know... I was only talking about straight line acceleration and top speed. I'm a long time F1 and MotoGP fan and am quite familiar with the ability of a track car to out corner and out brake a motorcycle. But it's still fun messing with the folks in the Porches and Corvettes who don't quite understand power to weight ratio. I've been to both F1 and MotoGP races at Circuit Of The Americas in Austin and both are a sight to behold. And as you pointed out, the F1 cars put the MotoGP bikes to shame... There's a 23 second difference in the lap records. Though the MotoGP bikes were doing 210-212 mph down the back straight compared to 204-206 mph for the F1 cars (this was 2012 & 2013). The lap records are current, but I assume both are going faster now down the back straight. Here's a couple links to the Rings' record times... I don't see the Atom in this list. And the fastest current time by a relatively stock BMW S1000R is 7:23. That puts it ahead of a lot of "fast" cars. No telling what a MotoGP or World Superbike would be capable of doing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times http://m.autoevolution.com/almost-stock-bmw-s1000rr-sets-7-23-lap-time-at-the-nurburgring-video-98740.html
  8. They are making the rounds for some reason... I've seen them on both the Dallas and Austin Craigslist sites. I replied to one ad a week or so ago (it had the Gmail address in the ad with no other way to reply). And promptly got a reply that they were already sold, but if I went to a website, I could get the same kind of deal. It was an obvious scam, so I just deleted the email. But they're trying to direct you to a specific website, I'm guessing, to get your information.
  9. The Atoms are quick, but they won't keep up with a current 1000 cc sport bike... Up to 60 mph or so, most of the Atom models will stay with a sport bike... Meaning 0-60 mph in the 2.5 second range. At anything above that, the Atoms will start losing ground. And by 100 mph will be about 1 second behind a 1000 cc sport bike (capable of 0-100 in 5.5 seconds). Top speed wise most of the Atom models are done by 150 mph or so. The V-8 Atom, with 500 hp, will get to 170 mph. Every current 1000 cc, 4 cylinder or 2 cylinder (Ducati) sport bike will do 186 mph with no problems. The article for the Atom cop car says it was never used on the streets and would only do 155 mph. My Hayabusa will do that in 4th gear.
  10. If they just went on sale today, how could "most" of them be "pre-sold"? Not that I'd ever pay $3200 for Heresy III's... But that statement makes it sound like "most" of them won't be available to the public?
  11. I once used a McIntosh MC 7270 (270 wpc) to drive my front L/R Chorus II's... And I have a Parasound 1205A (140 wpc) running my current 5 LaScala surround setup... Pretty sure I'm not crazy, but that's just my opinion.
  12. Timing, distance and/or money... It's always something. Love the blue!
  13. You're already as close as possible to Khorn sound without corner placement... It's called a LaScala. Your options... 1) Build yourself a horn loaded subwoofer to go with the LaScalas. 2) Buy a pair of Khorn's. 3) Buy a pair of Jubilees with the 402 horn on top and you'll have, according to many, better than Khorn sound. 4) Anything else would be a giant step back...
  14. No affiliation... Nice looking pair with light colored grilles listed for $850 (a bit pricey), with some interesting labels that say... "CBLS (CBL)" Never seen that before. Guessing "Cornwall Birch Lacquer Stained"? Not sure why the second CBL is listed or in parentheses? https://austin.craigslist.org/ele/5519323908.html
  15. Did they make the 30s in Walnut?I thought oak, mahogany and black ash Mark Light Oak, Medium Oak, Mahogany and Black Satin... The color of the Mahogany is probably confused for Walnut.
  16. 2014 for sure... 52 could be the week, day or just part of the individual serial number.
  17. That's an absolute wonderful idea! Having the tv on top of the speaker! I had been wondering, if I did use a La Scala as a center how would I work that out! I shall wonder no more!! That speaker isn't that high either so it actually works out perfect! LaScalas are Birch plywood... My guess is it would easily hold well over 100 lbs. And if I remember correctly, there's an old ad for the LaScala where someone is sitting on top of it. So an LCD TV won't cause any problems. At 35.5" tall it puts the midrange and tweeter just below ear level when I'm sitting on my couch. And for me that puts my TV at a perfect height.
  18. Thanks... One of those cubes is an original from 1980 (when I was 14). I could solve it in under a minute back then. Now I need to refer to the book to get the last corners/edges. Still fun to play with.
  19. No such thing as overkill... Buy a pair, then another pair, then another. You'll have enough for a 5.1 surround system. Three across the front and two as surrounds is the way to go. My room is 20'x14'...
  20. Link to the specs... https://web.archive.org/web/20130528000000/http://www.klipsch.com/ksp-s6-surround-speaker
  21. I've always worked from the front to the back, when piecing my systems together over the years. It just seems to work out better that way. I haven't heard any of the new RP series, but the CF series are great speakers. Will the RP center channel work between the CF's... Of course. It won't be a perfect timbre match. But since you know you'll eventually have a full RP system. I don't think it will make that big of a difference for a short period of time. One other thing to consider, after getting the RP-280's, you can move the CF-2's to surround duty (if you have the room)... until you get the RP surrounds. Keep the CF's for a dedicated 2 channel system if you can. If not there are plenty of people willing to buy them.
  22. What you are looking for is called "responsive". This automatically adjust the site to the viewers screen size. Another option is to add a script that detects screen size and sends the viewer to a new page built for them. This is bulker and more labor intensive because you have to basically build two or more websites (one for each screen size you want to have available). FWIW... even though I was on my phone, my screen size is 2560x1440. Not sure if that matters as most websites still default to a "mobile" version unless I specifically request the desktop site (an option available in Firefox).
  23. LaScalas have been made for a very long time, starting in the 1960's. So you could easily run across a pair that's 40 years old, all the way through 2005... When the last LaScala I was made. A lot of the cost will depend on location, the condition of the cabinets, the crossover and finish. Though most all LaScala I's were either Unfinished Birch (commonly referred to as Birch Raw - BR), Birch Lacquer (BL) or Birch Black. And you will find that the Birch Raw models have been stained, lacquered or painted all kinds of colors. Another consideration, is that any pair 15-20 years or older will probably need a crossover refresh to sound it's best. That may or may not be important to you initially, but there is a cost to figure in, if you want to get that done. As far as pricing, an older Birch Raw pair in good condition (that's probably been stained by the original owner), with some nicks and scratches, would probably start in the $700-$800 range. A much newer pair with the original Birch Lacquer finish, with factory grills, could easily be in the $1500-$1700 range. Of course you will find some that are more/less than that range. But they're probably in much worse condition (on the low end) or maybe a factory one off with a special finish or full grills. I own 3 pairs, 1988 Birch Raw, 1999 Birch Lacquer with grills and 2002 Birch Lacquer with grills. And all 3 pair were in the price range I listed. https://web.archive.org/web/20111114114503/http://www.klipsch.com/lascala-floorstanding-speaker http://www.critesspeakers.com/crossover_repair_kits.html
  24. I looked at the website on my phone using both Firefox and Chrome. There appears to be an issue with the spaces between the text... Or should I say the lack of spaces between much of the text. See attached screenshot. I know nothing about website programming, so I don't know if it's related to the site itself or because I'm viewing it on my phone. Though the problem did not go away when I requested the "desktop site" versus the mobile version.
