  1. I repaired a tear in one of my Chorus II passive radiators... I used just the tiniest amount of super glue to hold the edges together. Then I used regular Elmer's glue all and thinned it with some water. I then used a small brush to paint on several thin layers on the front and back of the cone. Since the cone is paper the Elmer's worked perfectly and with just a bit of water mixed in, it soaked into the edges of the tear. I alternated front/back with each layer of glue, waiting for each layer to dry. It was barely visible when finished, but easily as strong as the surrounding cone area.

  3. The Academy is the center channel match for the Forte I... A Heresy would probably be the next best choice. But if you have placement issues a KLF-C7 would work. Of course three Fortes across the front (if you have the room) is the best.

  6. No affiliation... Nice looking pair of Fortes. Appears to be Walnut Oil, but the lettering on the rear tags isn't visible. Located in Cleburne, TX which is about 30 miles south of Fort Worth. https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ele/5714751030.html

I'd love a pair as well, to go on top of my LaScalas... but the timing is off and I have no budget either. The trip over on I-20 (from Dallas) would be the easiest part of the problem to solve.
  9. You need to go into your owner's manual (pages 21, 24, 25, 50 and 133-136)... For a 5.1.2 setup, with just 2 Dolby Atmos (your RP-140SA) speakers (whether overhead or on top of your front speakers), you'd connect them to the "Front Presence" speaker outputs. If you decide to add 2 more Dolby Atmos speakers (for 5.1.4) at a later time, then connect them to the "Rear Presence" speaker outputs. However, you also have to go into the amp assignment (leave basic) and speaker setup and tell the Yamaha what is connected to the "Presence" outputs... See attached screenshots from the owner's manual.
  10. The Pre/Pro running everything is only $31,500... Which is a relative bargain compared to the $60,000 Sony 4K projector. http://www.trinnov.com/products/home-theater/altitude32/introduction-altitude32/?lang=en_us http://www.soundandvision.com/content/trinnov-altitude32-av-preamplifierprocessor
  11. If you're hearing "boomy mid-bass" it's probably a placement/room issue. Move them around a bit and see what happens. You may be sitting in a room node and could be hearing a peak at a particular frequency. I run mine without the grilles. But I haven't done enough listening with them on to say one way or the other. Though I doubt it would make much difference, if any.
  12. I have some 2.2's and 2.5's and really enjoy them as well. If you pair them with a small subwoofer, and take the load off of them below 80Hz, they can really be quite dynamic in a smaller room. And a full KG 2.2/2.5 front end with some KG 1.5's as surrounds makes a really nice 5.1 setup.
  13. Usain Bolt has also run some 150 meter races and holds the current world record (see video link) at that distance as well... He covered the final 100 meters in 8.72 secs.
  14. Bolt started badly in his heat race. Ran 40 meters, sped up a bit for 30 meters until he was leading, then "jogged" the rest of the way and ran 10.07... That's the fastest opening heat race he's ever run at the Olympics. The thing I find most amazing is that he looks like he's just cruising along with no effort... while everyone else looks like they're struggling to keep up. My money is on Bolt to win again in the 100, 200 and 4 x 100 relay.
  15. Just my opinion (having owned Cornwall's and KLF 20's)... As far as "bass extension and power" the KLF's will outperform the Cornwall. Even more so if you have a solid (100+ wpc) amplifier. The dual 10's of the KLF 20 have almost the same area (157 sq/in vs 176 sq/in) of the 15" K33 in the Cornwall and have more excursion capability. The KLF 30's even more so... Though they are not tuned quite as low as the KLF 20's, in exchange for a bit more sensitivity. That big Tractrix midrange horn in the KLF's is also a step up (compared to the Cornwall) as well. Mind you, both are great speakers, and much of the difference will come down to personal opinion, room size and placement. And I'll admit, there was just something really nice (like all the Heritage line) about the big Cornwall cabinets in the Walnut Oil finish. All the other Heritage (LaScala, Belle and Khorn) are a big step up from there. And I wouldn't trade my current LaScala setup for anything... Except for maybe adding a 402 horn on top (JubScala).

  18. I use the the mobile version/view probably 95% of the time (via Firefox on my Nexus 6). And so far, I have to agree it's just way too sterile. There's too much "white" space... The up/down arrows (voting?) in between each post in a thread is, in my opinion, a complete waste of space. And either needs to be removed or made MUCH smaller... The text seems much smaller against all that white area. And smaller than most other websites. I appear to have lost all of my bookmarked "Content I Follow". I had probably 40 threads/topics before the change and now I see only 3? WTF? The "load more" button at the bottom of my "unread" posts page, seems to rearrange/re-sort everything each time instead of actually loading the next group of unread posts. Why not use the much simpler "page 1 of 4" format, and click to the next page of unread posts. On a couple of occasions, clicking on an unread post or a post in the recent activity list, apparently causes it to disappear from said list. I'd rather not have my positivity rating made public on each post I make. Nor do I want posts that I've liked made public. Each of those were private in the past and should stay that way. And if they're not, I'll be MUCH LESS LIKELY to support/agree with a post, particularly one that may hold a minority view. And this will do nothing but generate more arguments. Who made these decisions? I'm on a 50Mbps cable line and it does seem a bit slow. But I'll wait a few days to see what happens. This new look and the fact that most of the specs for the discontinued speakers are still missing (and I'm guessing never to return), along with the continued "arguing" that seems to be more prevalent (always with the same small group of instigators and participants), leads me to believe I'll be spending even less time visiting here. I'll check back in a few days to see if it seems any better.

  21. The "extra amount of bass" you're hearing has nothing to do with the type of subwoofer... It's because you are sitting right up against the back wall (not the best seating position). As you've noticed moving your head forward helps to lessen the effect and sounds more "normal". If you can do it, you should try pulling your couch away from the wall at least a foot, more if possible. This will help smooth out the sound all across the frequency range, but particularly the low bass region, because your ears will be farther out into the room. As others have mentioned, running 2 subs will help smooth out the bass frequencies. And if you can pull your couch out, you could put one sub directly behind your couch (near field) along the middle of the wall. Even if you can't do it in the long term because of lack of space, at least try it to see what a difference it makes to have the couch away from the wall... And having a sub behind or near your main listening position. As always, try different setups and use what sounds best to your ears, in your room.
  22. This will come down to personal preference, desired features (Video pass through, Pre-Outs, Atmos ready, number of channels, etc) and budget more than anything else... All of the major manufacturers, such as Denon, Pioneer, Yamaha, Marantz, Onkyo, etc. have models that will do the job. Since you have a Denon currently and you really like it, you might consider the current AVR-X3300W... https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheater/avreceiversht/avrx3300w Or maybe the upcoming (out in Sept) AVR-X4300H. Head over to the AVS Forums and check out their AVR section. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/2444306-official-2016-denon-s-series-x-series-avr-owner-s-thread-faq.html http://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/
  23. The ad has been changed and the price has been dropped to $700...
  24. Black level and contrast are quite important... Lumens is, but less so unless the projector will be used in a room that isn't completely dark. Any type of ambient light in a room will really wash out (reduce the contrast) of a projector's image. The 0.7“ is the chip size in the projector. Regarding the 4K vs 1080P question... On a 60"-80" screen you can't tell the difference at normal viewing distances. Just look at the basic math... If you divide an 80" screen width (horizontal not diagonal) by the 1920 horizontal pixels, each pixel will look 0.042" wide. How close do you need to be to see 4 hundredths of an inch? An 80" screen displaying 4K UHD (3840 horizontal pixels) is half the width... 0.021". Even on a 150" screen, each of the 1920 horizontal pixels will only appear to be 0.078". So you need to sit very close to, or have a very large screen, to see the pixel width of even a 1080P image. If he wants 4K, then buy it. But you won't gain any real increase in clarity/resolution unless he's sitting just a couple feet away. For home use 4K is really overkill unless you've got the room/money to have a projector screen bigger than 12' wide or so. There are lots.of articles and distance calculators out there discussing the subject, and whether 4K provides any real improvement at normal seating distances in a home environment. http://referencehometheater.com/2013/commentary/4k-calculator/
