  1. Glad you found Reference for almost the same $. Big difference in performance IMHO. Better to spend a little more now than have buyers remorse later (wondering "What if?") and spend LOTS more overall...... Post some pics when you get them set up!
  2. Wow.... 10 X 12 is tight; but not impossible. What's your budget? Exclusively gaming or music and HT (movies; etc)? What is the layout going to be? Do you want small slim speakers; satellites or floorstanders? Klipsh HD 500 is coming to mind (Or a Quintet III system); but again; your buget and goals dictate a lot. (Also if you are willing to buy used and how much patience you have if you are)..... Hell; Promedia 2.1s will get you excellent 2.1 sound. You want 5.1; and I can not say I recommend Promedia Ultra 5.1s (would be used) because the amps are sometimes prone to issues.
  3. Well, there goes that suggestion........ The only other thing that comes to mind is leaving them on all the time; but not sure if this would shorten lifespan; etc....... Bad idea...... You could have your speakers blow if the amp does and even start a fire......... Have you contacted the manufacturer? (I would; and I would let them know you are pissed).......... Also; have you tried muting the Onkyo before you turn them on? (Doubt that will work). There has to be a way to mute the amps for 5 seconds while you turn them on......... Is there a way to attach a grounding strap from each amps' chassis to a good ground? I am sorry; I am out of ideas besides contacting the manufacturer and straps....... Good Luck.
  4. This may not be an accepted practice, but are the amps grounded? (3 prong plugs). If so; have you tried cheater plugs (3 prong to 2 prong). This can help isolate the issue. (If the sound disappears with the cheater plugs; it is a grounding issue). I do not know if there is an issue running them like this for good........ (Might be ok; IDK).
  5. +1!!!! If I can afford $12,000 for P37s, I can probably save my pennies for 3-6 months and get P39s. Sorry dude; your complaint is falling on deaf ears....... As mentioned; that speaker (P39) is for the "money is no object" audiophile. There are those who say a set of Jubilees are as good or even better, and I believe a set can be had for thousands less than the P37s. But the elegant styling and incredible performance is attractive on the P39s, just as a Jube is attractive in a completely different way. Compared to other manufacturers, P39s are relatively inexpensive "flagship" speakers.......
  6. I suggest getting the best center you can possibly get. You can skimp on the surrounds if necessary. (Not recommended; but you are better off skimping here than center; mains or sub). The center is where most dialogue comes from, and really needs to be an excellent speaker for kick arse HT. Good Luck.
  7. Welcome to The Forum! There is a thread about replacing the sub amps in these. I think they are really great speakers if functioning 100% properly. Others agree: http://www.audioreview.com/cat/speakers/floorstanding-speakers/klipsch/ksp-300/prd_119948_1594crx.aspx Pay attention for a hum in the powered woofers when audtiioning...... (Indicitive of possible amp issues). I'd probably start low at $300 and my personal high mark would be $500-$600 if MINT. (I could get KLF 20s/ 30s for $700 or even lower). As always; price depends on demand; how badly the seller wants to sell; and condition. You could probably resell those for $500 if in great shape and no amp issues. (These #s are my opinion only; not fact). Good Luck. EDIT: THE SPEAKERS I WAS REFERRING TO ARE THE KSP 400s; REGARDING AMP REPLACEMENT THREAD.
  8. Have you tried powering them on first; and then your Preamp last? (I am not sure if this would work; just asking).
  9. I agree. I never said use just any kind of fabric. When I went shopping for this; I brought the old fabric with me. I chose a very similar fabric. (Which also worked for KG 3s that I also recovered). If you are feeling particularly unsure about this; search Google online for "speaker fabric". Buy from there; or search Ebay. I paid $3.00 so if the fabric changed the sound or did not work for some reason; it was only $3.00, not $30. I was trying to give the best economical choice as well as Bob's stuff as a recommendation...... Anyway; as I said; the gluing is the hardest part (or in my case was really easy; because I knew which glue to use). You are welcome for that information....... [:|]
  10. The glue I show in that thread is the secret to easy recovering. The fabric is not super hard to find...... I used what I could find at the local fabric store. It is black and has mostly nylon fibers. The authentic stuff is really good from Crites; but pricier.
  11. I am not saying they are bad but your receiver just may outperform them. Bill I agree with Williand (And PSQ)...... Even if it is a lateral move..... Is it worth doing? (Why spend money ; even if it is a "good price" for the same or less performance?)

  13. You, my friend sound like you might be narcoleptic....... Drink 3 cups of coffee before a star wars movie. (Or any movie).......
  14. Weldbond may work better. (I trust DJKs advice) I used what came with the kit. (Which smelled and looked exactly like Elmers).
  15. Welcome to The Forums. You need to read this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/151516.aspx The glue is like Elmers glue. (I think it IS Elmers glue).
  16. Just saw "The RiTe". It has Anthony Hopkins in a semi lead role....... Pretty decent flick about exorcisms and such....... I would give it 3.75 stars. Hopkins is pretty good in this. (Rutger Hauer also in a small role). Enjoy!
  17. For $500, you could get a lot. It depends what you need though. (Does it have to be HDMI?) Many recent posts of Pioneer going from $300 and up. I just got a Harman Kardon AVR 7300 a few weeks ago. It is stunning! (But; no HDMI). Look for Onkyo; HK, Pioneer; and even a newer (more powerful) Yamaha unit. If your current receiver has pre outs; you could go separates; but I will leave that to someone who has done so..... Good Luck.
  18. Cecaa, Congrats on the pup. He is gorgeous. You can never replace an awesome pet, but you can honor their memory.....
  19. +1. It could even be a loose speaker wire. (Might be something on the board loose; check with a strong flashlight). Good Luck.
  20. I think when you are playing music (2 channel) or anything not 5.1 encoded; only the crossover settings apply. When playing 5.1 encoded (movie) tracks; the LFE channel is separate. (I believe). If I am mistaken on this; please correct it for me. (Break it down in a simplified manner please). Brunt; I am with you; I let my sub do 60 hz and down....... I may experimant more with the LFE settings; but honestly; my movies sound great and my music even better; so.....
  21. +1. Maybe even 60 HZ. Decide if you prefer the small or large setting: I think the LFE is a seperate audio track for 5.1 encoded audio; but for (2 channel; non encoded) speakers and sub: Small setting (speakers do NOT play below the sub crossover frequency) or large (speakers play as low as they can go; and sub plays from crossover point to as low as it can go)....... There are advantages and possible disadvantages to both settings; but depends on your system power; and speaker ratings and even room type and placement may affect how each setting sounds. Good Luck.
  22. You can use an RCA splitter to get more volume. (connected to the right and left input on the sub). Also; what is your sub crossover set at? (If it is something really low; 40hz for example; you may not get the full bass drum beats with music; try 80 hz for starters). -30 is a very low volume setting. If you will ALWAYS listen that quiet; increase the "db" on the receiver menu for "sub". BEWARE; if you try to crank much louder than this; you may overdrive your sub into distortion/ clipping. (Because you have the preamp signal turned higher than normal to make it louder when playing the system quiet). Does your AVR have a loudness setting? Do you have it set to play with all speakers; LFE only or L + R + LFE? LFE only may give you the symptom you describe. Hope some of these ideas help....... Good Luck.
  23. Groom...... HOLY CRAP! I hope that was one big copy and paste........
