  1. There is always that possiblilty that both formats will fade away when the new holographc HVT discs are introduced in 2007. These discs have 300 gig capacity and the followup HVX discs have over a 1000 gigs capacity. So Bluray and HD-DVD appear to be temporary interim formats. JJK
  2. "Upconversion" is a salesmans dream. However, they do work well. There are many around at this time and most of them utilize the HDMI output connections. (Video & Audio). It's not the same as pure 720P or 1080I or 480P but it's good and better than what you started with. Check the AVS forum for all of the latest hoopla on HT and related subjects. JJK
  3. Unfortunately the radio that comes with a 1969 Corvette is so bad it does not even qualify for the lowest number on a 1 to 100 scale. (100 equalling a Bose radio) And I don't like Bose. 100,000 would be Klipsch. JJK
  4. If you listen at low volumes you might as well buy a Bose table top radio. I did not buy Klipsch K-horns to listen at low levels. Likewise, I did not buy a 435HP Corvette for good gas milage. JJK
  5. You forgot to add in your poll that if you "juice" up the bass too much on the K-horns (not Cornwalls) sometimes it will add a bit of coloration to male voices. And also another selection stating that we are never happy the way they are and are continually messing with them.. JJK
  6. Quad has 4 layers of shielding and works a bit better. Obviously it uses a different tool. But it is your typical run of the mill lead in for consumers. JJK
  7. In my opinion you should be using the proper nomenclature involved here which would be the "characteristic impedance" of the wire. Since the impedance of the speaker drivers is all over the place depending on frequency and the crossover performance the wire is the third variable. In VHF/UHF applications this is reduced almost to "0" by using abnormally high input signals reduced down to operating parameters with a 20 db resistive pad. The pad in effect matching the three different impedances---antenna, wire, tv set. Now if the impedance of the speakers remained constant and the crossovers then it would be a piece of cake. Do you think that PWK had the formulas for this problem? They did publish the impedance variations verses frequency of the K-horns as I recall. And it was real squiggly. So what I am saying is that if the crossover itself had a pure 20 db resistance between the three drivers, itself, the wire, and the amplifier and the amplifier power was increased 20 db your wire changing would be a non-changing medium as the impedance would be constant for all things. 8. 1...Blues for Robert Lockwood---Colin Dussalt Blues Project (center channel bass) 2...Something on Her Mind---Buddy Guy 3...Come Home For Christmas---Eagles 4...Crossroads---Eric Clapton 5...Premonition---John Fogarty JJK
  9. It is my understanding that plasma tv's have approximately a 5 year life span, the elements slowly get dimmer. Well anyway they will be totally outmoded by that time and you will have to upgrade to the new 10,000P 3D holographics. JJK
  10. Will it fit in my $99.00 linear tracking Kenwood? Maybe I could hot glue it onto the tone arm. JJK
  11. I remember in the old days when Columbia Records re-engineered their systems to provide a nicer, more silky type sound on the vinyl stuff. They still could not pump up the bass though because of the restrictions of space between grooves. Maybe they should have made the record 1/2" thick and gone up and down to make the groove wider. Just think of all the nuances that could be put into that size groove. (10.1 Dolby) JJK
  12. I noticed on mine that the high end really cleaned up, you could hit it with more power, the voices were smooth and more natural, the speakers were better balanced, the low end was cleaner, and the Cornwall center just came alive. JJK
  13. If I were to convey anything at all here I would say the dispersion was slightly improved. I listen at loud levels with the system pumped up pretty good on the high and low end. With the cloths removed I did notice if you stand directly in front on axis that the high end was just a touch louder and with the cloths on that center axis was somewhat diffused. Actually with the cloths on the high end was much better in a non-directional sense. But remember that we are talking very small changes here. JJK
  14. Well, I'm not a sonic expert, but after the Dean corssovers were installed it sounded excellent to me.My hearing range is 20-12.5 KHZ and I hear nothing above 12.5 KHZ. JJK
  15. Try another source such as a DVD player or TV and if it does the same thing your LCD TV is probably faulty. JJK
  16. I used the black fibreglass screening at Lowes or Home Depot, stretched it out over a plastic ceiling insert with little 1/2" white squares that I painted black then put some flowerey pattern material over that painted Corvette Vinyl Tobacco.
  17. Without good oscilloscopes there would be no vinyl or digital anything. JJK
  18. If Western Electric made the horn it should last another 300 to 500 years. JJK
  19. Watched it on my OTA and it was exceptional as usual. The FOX camera lenses are a tad worse on stadium shots on long range people (little dots--people) are not as in focus as CBS. I tend to watch the blades of grass and the people at the far reaches of the stadium. You have to understand the physical laws and constants that exist in our Milky Way Galazy---"Bean counters will compromise the quality of your signal at the drop of a dollar". The signal is coded up and transported to satellite feeds, then downloaded to TV stations at different data rates depending on the "bean counters". The cable people recode the signal for cable distribution to their own standards which generally might be real crappy in some areas. Two of my friends have had the cable people install extra amplifiers to fix the quality of the HD signal. There are many other factors. JJK
  20. "Closest" too the original instrument as two conotations---fidelity of the instrument (presense) and the "loudness" of the instrument at normal playing levels in a band. Records don't come close to the second requirement because of compromised (bean counter) groove width restrictions. The "silky" vinyl sound is do to the rounded off transients created by the mechanical cutting and playback of the groove. A side buy side playback of the idenditical CD/Album/Tape will expose your cymbal hits as dull thuds from the record compared to crisp hits on the CD. JJK
  21. One of the things that failed to be touched here is the absolutely huge difference in quality (resolution) from 720P to 1080P. If you see a 1080P and you just bought a 720P you will be pissed. JJK
  22. I would like to add two more complaints about vinyl and such: 1...Putting the record back into the sleeve always catches the inside fold and the record gets "jammo-jammo" into the sleeve. 2...Then when you insert the record & sleeve into the album cover the same thing happens with the inside fold and it gets "jammo-jammo" into the folder. JJK
  23. I have a Denon AVR 983 and the power output is not even close to what it claims. But it works OK. JJK
  24. Google is getting too big for it's britches. I would write software to block them out. They have way too much info at their fingertips. Next catagory will be "How many times do I fart every day?". JJK
