  1. These guys are saying "Sergi, why so beeg? I've got speeekers dat vill feet in de palm of my yand and my wive luves dem"
  2. The 20XH is pretty high output already isn't it(that's what the H is for)? Sure you don't have a 20XL? I use a 20XH on my Linn. It's been wonderful for me.
  3. Nice. When will Custom 3 be available(or where). I take it these are the top of the line "sound-wise". I see the Image are more expensive however they seem to be geared a bit more for well... image, style and flair.
  4. Here are the sites I use for audiophile vinyl: www.acousticsounds.com www.elusivedisc.com www.musicdirect.com Mike FYI, I'm on back order at Music Direct right now. I'm in no hurry. Thought it would be an interesting album. My "sleeper" favorite of the year so far was 70 year old Ian Hunter's new record, Shrunken Heads. CD only but that guy can still roll.

  6. Larry's correct. The best way to see the strobe is with a flourescent light bulb. I have a small, plug in flourescent fixture I can hold right over the turntable and the strobe marks really jump right out you. Best way to go.
  7. Where did you get the grill cloth? I would like to re-do mine with original style some day.
  8. For the 40+ of you that were going to lose, your wives will all be thrilled to see that you didn't throw $40 to $120 down the drain. []
  9. Prices have gone up vs. when some of you might have bought your last MC240. Again, if it's pristine, $2500 could be reasonable. But I should add, the price difference between 90% and pristine is pretty large. Here's one right now on Ebay at $2K with a day left. These would be the only kind I would consider going high for. They're hard to come by this nice. They won't sound any better than a rusty one but it's all in the appearance. For that extra 10% of cosmetic perfection, you have to pay big for. http://cgi.ebay.com/McIntosh-MC240-STEREO-TUBE-AMPLIFIER-MC-240-AMP_W0QQitemZ230180768944QQihZ013QQcategoryZ50593QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  10. Jay, I would not be able to tell you. I've had very strong quads of xf1, xf2 and xf4 in my amps. You could swap them all day on me and I couldn't tell you which was which. I do like the Mullards though. They aren't worth the prices they command vs. a good quad of Svetlana C's I don't think. I am not a hugely critical listener however, so if there are some tiny nuances between these tubes, I might not be one to pick them out.
  11. Can I see the turntable? I want one of those but they don't show up very often. Nice find.
  12. I never made a concerted effort. I've heard a lot of different mullards in my 8B and ST70's. I can't tell any difference.
  13. Finding one in pristine condition is much harder to come by than a working one. Generally, there shouldn't be much wrong with it's operating condition. Almost any vintage piece should be checked out by a professional if you want it to operate reliably and sound it's best. If it's only in "nice" condition, $2500 is too much. If it's pristine.... no rust, no pitting or major swirl marks in the chrome, 100% lettering, no scratches on the transfomers or base, $2500 is reasonable. Somebody like NOSValves who posted above could have it singing pretty for $300 to $500 I would imagine.
  14. In my opinion, you'd have to be a real "golden ear" to tell them apart. I could never do it.
  15. Sorry, one Klipsch forum is almost too much for me let alone checking up on 2 or 3 of them.
  16. Barry, Thanks the Quads are sure pretty to look at. I was just playing with the Model 9's the last few weeks. They needed a fair amount of work at Audio Classics first. I do believe they are the best sounding vintage amps I have ever owned. I've been using them in triode mode with your Shorthorns and they really do everything well.
  17. It's a belt drive. It's pretty stable, you have to have some really sloppy floors or be doing some heavy jumping around to skip it. It's a decent table considering the cost. Usually $100 more or less. I haven't heard a Rega in a while but I would think it would be an improvement over the Marantz 6100.
  18. Barry, What do you think of those Quad ESLs? I've always wanted to hear a pair. Nice rooms everybody. Kaiser, I like the turntable hanging from the ceiling.
  19. If it is legit, you're probably too late now. Email and find out more information. I went to their website but it hasn't been updated since May.
  20. Taco'ed or Pimped? But, I wouldn't mind getting a hold of that tonearm, just not at the price this guy wants. For $1000 to 1300, well, yea, maybe. I have seen NOS SME3012 bring that kind of coinage, but never seen a gold one. Just a bling bling BS, I know. Well, based on price before the cancelled bid, you know the current high bidder is in there for at least $1900.
  21. Capt, Stentorian. That is an awesone name. Classic. Look what Webster has to say: Main Entry: sten·to·ri·an Pronunciation: \sten-'to?r-e-?n\ Function: adjective Date: 1605 : extremely loud <stentorian tones> synonyms see loud
  22. It's amazing to think that you can get such a wonderful speaker for so little dollars. Go look at the junk you can buy at Best Buy for $500 to $1000.
  23. Great point. I've seen that more than once with original SME RCA connectors. One channel cuts completely out, reach around the preamp, pull out the connector, just slightly and wa la. RCA conversion kits get rid of this nonsense.
