  1. Ok, upon further reveiw it is quite obvious the new ALK crossovers are sounding much better than the 21 year old AA that were in there. All it took was installing both ALK crossovers and listening a some higher volumes to really notice the difference. I even had a friend switch them back and forth and I could pick the newer ALKs right out. I'll soon be installing plutonium speakers wires and shing tao rocks for ulitmate performance. But I will not part with my beautiful cane grills. I love that cane!
  2. It said I'm a poser but just the fact that I even took the damn test must mean I have potential.
  3. I say go Vintage and don't wait for two years. Find a nice Dynaco ST-70 for about $300.00, you'll be amazed. Then you an start drooling for upgrades to your Dynaco or looking for your dream $1500.00 tube amp. I had a new Rogue Magnum 88 amp a few years ago and I actually preferred my Dynaco.
  4. That's all right moon, you're doing all you can do. I quit paying attention to pro sports years ago and let me tell you it is very liberating. Must be people watching or they couldn't afford those ridiculous salaries. As for tennis shoes, try New Balance, they still make a lot of models here in the U.S.
  5. I think the world should spend more time watching itself.

If you still can't hear the difference, carefully wrap the ALK xovers in a plastic bag and pack them well. Next, send them to me for further evaluation and I will forward my findings (eventually). Have fun -Bryan ---------------- No way man, if my ears can't tell the difference, my eyes sure can. These things are a work of art, if i do say so myself.
  8. Thank you all for your responses and thanks for not suggeesting they need to "burn-in". I'm going to have to read through your posts again and try some things out. I'll let you all know if my hearing improves
  9. I'm playing it through my laptop right now. It's not as good as your Promedias.
  10. Ok, for all of you who experience the "night and day" and "blows away" differences between components and things, I wonder if you can help me out here. I've just completed building my ALK crossovers(what a great kit and instructions were awesome). Installed one in the left Khorn and left the old AA in the right Khorn just to be crazy! Ran them for an hour or so and damn it, I can't tell any difference between the two speakers. What types of things should I be listening for? Or what are some simple tests or type of tracks might I try learn for what I should be hearing? Thanks in advance for any help for my "dumb@ss ears".
  11. THe rubber is supposed to make contact with the wall providing a tight seal. Mine didn't have the rubber gasket on the tailboards. I ran pipe insulation down the board so that it makes very tight conact with the wall. My initial impression was that they sounded better without it. I'm going to have to remove it now and do a re-listen.
  12. Craig that thing looks sweet! I'm not sure about rats but there where definitely a ton of spiders making a nice home out the inside of my little Dyna girl when I picked her up. Have fun tweaking.

So I would say, go with the top of the line Klipsch sub. ---------------- That's not accurate. From what Trey has posted, they do not want entire threads directed towards a competitor's subwoofer. I am not aware of any prohibition against the mere mention of another brand's sub or a recommendation related to the same. Again, so long as common sense is employed. He's a grown man. I'll just throw out some names, and he can research the subwoofer section himself to view various people's opinions. Klipsch: a RSW-12 or a RSW-15 would make a fine addition to your LaScalas. HSU: VTF-2; VTF-3, Mk III. SVS: PB12-ISD/2, PB12-Plus/2 (formerly PB2s) or the Ultra. You can also get an idea by looking at various people's profiles. Carl. BTW, congrats on the Heritage!!! You will enjoy them for many years to come. ---------------- Oh my God! You said SVS! How dare you? Oh no! Now I've said SVS... oops I said it again. Damn, now I'm going to have to change my login.

  16. www.audioclassics.com They've done absolutely perfect work for me. Not cheap but they are meticulous and you get a complete write up of what was done to your piece. Some expamples of what I've had them restore... MX110 tuner/preamp that was pretty neglected $450.00, MC240 amp $275.00, Marantz 8B amp $400.00 I still can't figure out how they solder and repair everything so prefectly. Needless to say the items they've fixed for me sound and work perfectly.

And the Yanks haven't spent major bank on their players? ---------------- That's my point... you don't need to spend 186 million(Yankees), ONLY 128 million will do it! The Yanks have the highest payroll, Boston second highest in the league.
  18. There is a product in which you hook up a small box to your cable(or whatever tv source) and you can carry the 17" LCD monitor(rechargable battery or plug in) to wherever you want in the house. I know Sony and some of the other big companies are working on it. I do beleive it is already available for around $900 to $1000.
  19. Just goes to show you, you only need to spend 128 million on your payroll to win the pennant.
  20. Sweet. I'll check that out. Thanks for the info. Bob.

Three are completed and and the other two are in progress. Not a good cap amoungst the lot so far. Most are bad only in ESR. Pretty safe bet that if you are listening to original type A or AA crossovers, you are listening to bad caps. Bob Crites ---------------- Can I ask how you can tell if a cap is bad? I read so much about bad caps and I rarely find them( of course I'm not sure what I'm looking for so no wonder I don't find them). I have a DVM that can read capacitance. Other than disconnecting the cap from the circuit and checking the value, are there other "checks" that could tell if it's good or bad?
  22. You have to remember to change the bag often because when the bag gets full that thing won't pick up anything!
  23. I've got a whole albumn of Sebatian Cabot doing Bob Dylan songs. That's Mr. French reading Dylan lyrics like it was freakin Hamlet or something. Shatner still wins though. Mr. French is damn good but you just can't top Shatner.
  24. on his MGB project car (a Chrysler Prowler base coat/ clear coat orange color with a gold/yellow fade out) and it is awesome. The gun he uses came from Harbor Freight and he said he paid 30 bucks for it. I guess my point is that you don't have to spend big bucks for a spray gun. I'm sure Dale Walker will bite my head off now. Tom ---------------- At $30.00 that gun probably came from China. If you buy one like that, don't gripe about your jobs being "outsourced". Not that anybody here is griping about outsourcing... but I hear a lot of complaining about job outsourcing and yet, we have a passion for as much inexpensive Chinese copies of American products as we can get our hands on. So now how do you think Brinks supposed to compete with $30.00 retail price? Yes... outsource to China. Sorry for being so far off topic... carry on!
  25. Those were his Outdoor speakers for the last 20 years.
