  1. My ex-wife had us eating off of a full set of these, pink as I recall. Didn't have the pitcher/ewer thingy but we had a boatload of the stuff. Aaaaah, those weren't the days.
  2. I have everything from zydeco to gregorian chants. The Mrs has a liking for C&W. Jazz, blues, classical, R&R .......NO RAP. Thnx for the replies. Any additional input plenty welcome. Dave
  3. Fini, Got that right....I got a pair of Khorn boxes crammed in garage. They're too torn up to sell, yet I feel compelled to keep boxes. Maybe I'm part pack rat. Anyone interested in scarred up Khorn boxes??
  4. Let me 1st apologize. I know I could plow thru previous postings and research this but I'm too pressed for time. Anyhoo, yours truly is getting an SACD player (Sony SCD 777ES) and owns zero/zilch SACDs'. Tell me please what are your favorite SACD titles. I enjoy all genres so feel free to run the gamut. Also, the best source to obtain these for the least in cost and fastest in service (why not ask for it all). Y'all been very, very good to me....thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Dave
  5. ZERO question but what the Klipsch dealer system is inadequate. The guy (dealer) I necessarily bought Heritage thru acted like it was the biggest pain in his business uh,...ur...neck he'd ever experienced. "He sells and installs home theater systems, not stereo gear". There are any number of firms who will sell direct, or refer to the closest genuine dealer, business in poorly served markets. The curious part about Klipsch is that it is a seminal manufacturer in this industry. It has quality product at very good pricing. With these advantages Klipsch should command the markets intead of losing them. Somewhere, somehow, somebody really missed the boat, or maybe sunk it. Chastising a stalwart customer for turning to e-bay to access product otherwise inaccesible is not the answer. Recognizing the problem mebbe Klipsch should open the ears up and ask prospective clients to contact them directly BEFORE turning to the gray market. Klipsch should know regions of light market coverage and can hand hold inquiries in those areas. An attitude of "we'll find a way to serve you" is preferable to a scolding for turning elsewhere.
  6. Satan in church One Sunday after all the parishioners were seated the devil appeared in a flash of fire and smoke at the front of the church. Everybody screamed and ran furiously out the doors. In less than a minute the church was completely empty except for one elderly man. Satan approached the man and bellowed. "Do you know who I am mortal"? Calmy the man looked up and answered. "Yup, sure do". Satan yells. "I can take you life in a word, human"!!! The man replied. "Yup, I believe you can". At the top of his lungs Satan screams. "I can torment you for all eternity in the blazing depths of hell,.....why aren't you afraid of me"? The man replies. "Well, you don't scare me. I've been married to your sister for 36 years".
  7. Dodger.....according to audiokid I've procured a late model Heresy and it has a K-53 mid-range with the 701 plastic horn set up. I don't know squat about any of the guts of any of these but apparently some of the Heresys did use the plastic horns.
  8. My experience......Had a Sony 50 CD carousel at the same time as I was running a Sony 200 CD carousel. The smaller unit was decidedly better. Got Jolida CD. It sounded much better with vintage tubes than with stock tubes. Ran its digital signal to an MF Tri-Vista DAC and the combination was better still (yes I know the Jolida is now an expensive transport and those vintage tubes are completely bypassed). I don't have especially good hearing. How can it be that I can discern a very noticeable difference in this small array of CD products and others say "no"? Methinx that if you cannot hear any difference in the source then enough artifact must be getting introduced by the balance of the system to mask performance from any source.
  9. You can hollow out base boards if they are thick enough. I've also furrowed carpet padding to inset wires run beneath carpeting. Some do perimeter runs where the wiring follows just in or outside of the carpet tack strips where some space can be found......or, you could go for the industrial look and drape them across the room just above head height.
  10. O.K. here I go. I pondered this very ? as I read the various posts one the subject. I even inquired about using an RC 7 and biamping it.....and literally got no answer. So I looked and asked harder. This is what I learned. In the 3 channel configuration the center mono speaker needs to be in balance with the stereo speakers if it's to work. Also, this center speaker needs to minimize it's bass frequencies because bass is so pervasive. If this is not done then the set-up doesn't enhance the soundstage it will mush it up. Essentially the center mono (L+R) is an attempt to unwind the mix of the stereo recording to better replicate the original center stage performance. You want just the center stage material, not the rest of the soundstage. Using the RC7 or 2 speakers in lieu merely drags the entire sound dispersion central. You won't have stereo and you won't have 3 channel...you will have a wall of sound. Reading what I've written and I'm not even sure I've explained it well/right. Anyway I'm now in the process of getting a minibox constructed. It will be specific to my integrated amp and my speakers. It will be balanced and it will cut off most of the mono bass response. I'll report back when I've brought the system up.
  11. My parents owned a 1960 Cadillac, El Dorado Broughm Convertible, gold in color. One sold for over 60K. Eeeegads!!!! Of course it would cost more than that to keep it in gasoline.
  12. I really do enjoy well written works whether they're novels, jokes or ads. Perhaps Johnny Carson has been slightly reincarnated here?
  13. Not trying to hijack anything....but.....everytime I come across this listing (being schooled in medicine) I read "TURPS" by garymd. TURPS is trans-urethral resection of the prostate a rather ungodly procedure to remove the cancerous gland. It's a rather ugly homonym but one none the less. Y'all may now ignore this post. (Aren't they terpins, the fish things?)
  14. Got one!!! I've been looking at SACD units on e-bay and found SONY XA900ES at an absurd price. The seller was new and payment was to be remitted by cashiers check. The seller had one feedback from a buyer who was also new. That buyer had the same ID history as did the seller, but a slightly different name. The unit for sell was on a short 3 day listing. Red flags all over. Contacted e-bay thru their security link and advised them of my concerns. They popped the ad this morning and I am very full of myself!!!
  15. I got a set of boxed Khorns into the back of a short bed F150 Ford p/u (without stacking) so they should fit into a van. They do come apart you know?
  16. add to the "whos who"....... Sting Neil Sedaka Nancy Sinatra
  17. Recently I purchased a pair of vintage Heresys to use one for my center channel. Bought them via e-bay and the seller was within driving distance. We met yesterday and I got to meet his wife and son. These Heresys were his babies since 1984. His wife insisted on "smaller" speakers on the premise that newer ones would be as good, but smaller....like the "Bose" speakers. Well I got my Heresys.....and they're NOT getting Bose to replace them with.
  18. Amy....people are doing it anyway...give them the avenue to travel on so other threads can remain (or at least start off) more audio focused.
  19. Amy....start a thread entitled "lifestyles" to better classify/accommodate seriously O/T subjects. Heck a lot of these turn into chat rooms and they chat about stuff this genre finds entertaining and informative. Not only have I made friends here but I'm in the process of expanding my system with more confidence than ever before. In other words my limited audio knowledge found just exactly what this site is about while being entertained and challenged as well.....an ideal business platform. I imagine Klipsch would rather have more participants than less. Bringing more people into the fold requires the envelope to expand or at least be flexible. Half-a-million hits and growing.....PWK must be smiling somewhere.
  20. Nobody can hold a candle to this mans comedic genius/legacy. Not just a chuckle here and there but spasmodic laughter until your sides ached...as a matter of routine. What truly saddens me is learning that his final days were spent struggling for breath. I can tell you for certain that he absolutley could not laugh at anything for quite some time. It's not that he didn't want to but his body could not afford the workload. People, breathing is central all that you do. Smoking slowly erodes away the lungs tremendous exercise reserves. You don't know it's happening until it's too late. Then all the kings men can't put you back together again. If you smoke puh..leeez stop.
  21. Considering purchasing SACD. Looking at: 1). Musical Fidelity SACD 2). Opera Consonance SACD 3). Sony XA9000 SACD The product will be dedicated 2 channel and I want it to play red book well also. I also want it compatible for use with an external DAC for red book play. Any and all input and other product options is requested up to not getting anything and waiting for better. Appreciate the advice.
  22. Alvin Lee..Goin Home ...from Woodstock Jimi Hendrix..Third Stone From the Sun...Anybody ever notice that the song "I'm Too Sexy" stole the melody from Hendrixs' 3rd Stone???
  23. Vavoline....I do use the "pain is good" Batch #37 hot sauce on eggs. It's much better than the Tabasco. I haven't tried their B.M. mix. They're at www.originaljuan.com and I'll have to get some. Thnx
