  1. Gotta love my mother-in-law, Elsie. She really, really, really loves my bloody mary concoction. She loves it so much that she has challenged anybody in her trailer park to beat it. She, of course, enlisted me to meet the now accepted challenge. I'm now engaged in a B.M. contest at a retirement skip park some 3 weeks away. I'm not especially nervous but I'm seeking some feedback from you wonderful folks (those of you who are so inclined). I would like you to try my mixture, give me your impression and offer any suggestions, pleeeeeze!! My recipe/formula is simple but not in mixology terms so I'll write it in terms most of us from the 60s would grasp. In a beer mug. Ice in bottom 3rd. 2 squirts of lime juice (I use the little plastic bottles). 2 glurps of Tobasco. Stir the ice, lime and Tobasco lest ye freeze up the ice cubes. 2 fingers of vodka, 3 if you wish to accelerate the night. Fill the balance with Clamato (well shaken). Garnish with the celery thingy. That's it. Any thoughts or ideas???
  2. My strong afinity for the Khorn is that I spent 3 summers as an usher at the Hollyweird Bowl back in the late 60's (rough, I know). Anyhoo, the Khorn does indeed best reproduce the live in live music, as far as I'm concerned.
  3. Nicholti...you can't say "piss" anymore!! Besides this movie isn't worth the bladder strain.
  4. Regardless of what the satelite people say weather, trees and other factors do offer artifact on performance. If you go with satelite make certain your signal strength and quality is there BEFORE you finalize the contract agreement.
  5. This stuff is way out of my league but it lends me to wonder. SACD signals don't uplink as I understand because of some of these requirements. Was advised somewhere that the technology definitely exists but the application to audio was legally limited. So the question is could this conundrum be patent or otherwise legally hogtide?
  6. Your choice but you seem to know the options. I own the Jolida and use a Tri-Vista DAC and wish I had the SACD mode. I do believe that new technology is around the corner....it always is. The limitation is the $$$$$
  7. Very pleased with the HT s/u. Seriously want to try a center channel on the audio system. Perhaps it's moot. Got the Khorns on the short wall of a 16 X 30 room. The corners are ideal, ceiling at 9ft. I do have great soundstage at the sweet spot. But after reading all the posts about a center mono channel I want to hear what it may add to the system. Are the horns too close together to benefit much from the center mono channel? Problem, I can't fabricate a minibox. Know how but can't physically..disabled..hands don't work well. Need help. Anyone interested P.M. me.
  8. Oscar..moniker used in competition Scrabble..from Oscar Levant. Real name David.
  9. A very good looking animal. Appears to be a pure bred. G.S. dogs are so inbred that their susceptible to any number of health problems. We stopped with them after losing 2 way too young. Started up with greyhound rescue dogs. Wonderful, wonderful pets (females). They enjoy a lengthy and deep gene pool and their breeding is for speed not appearance...so, few health related problems. It's terribly hard to lose a loving and loyal friend. They count on us for their welfare and it's not fair to enlist them through suffering for our sake. They don't understand pain and it's not medically treated like human pain is. Heartbreaking as it is we do them a favor by putting them down.
  10. You'll need to get a return goods authorization # direct from Jolida. I returned a 502B shortly after purchase due to excess noise. Good Luck.
  11. Check em out Ebay #5741491517. Prettiest pair I've ever seen. Anybody ever listen to a pair of these?
  12. At one time I lived in a condo with neighbors adjacent and above me. I could run my system(s) as loud as I wanted at any time w/o complaint one from my adjacent neighbors. But the upstairs unit was apparently subject to a lot of noise at any level and the sub drove her nuts (more nuts). Methinx that the side walls may have had better sound insulation. Sadly (for me) the lady (I think she was human) was a stay at home, cubby holed type and there was no time I was allowed to use my system without hearing my ceiling pounded . Such is life.
  13. You know if it weren't for the mouse fart posts on-going I might feel bad for starting this one.
  14. I wonder IF the fart would be more accurately reproduced on digital or analogue?
  15. Sorry, the 3 of you. String theory? Should I have taken this up with Steven Hawkings?
  16. Thnx to the 2 of you who responded. What I needed and got was additional input for my 14 Y/O, male of the species, who required some opinions other than my own as to this most delicate issue. With your learned experiences and wisdom the lad is now left with little recourse but to dutifully attend to the doody duty. Much appreciation.
  17. Need some feedback from those of you who are experienced residents of the northern climes. I've not lived in the north before and am entering my first winter. Got helpful neighbors and all but some things just merit the input of fine folks such as yourselves. Besides, I don't know how much I can trust my neighbors on important matters and I want a consensus. Apparently if you do not immediately capture a recent doggy doo episode it has a tendency to adhere to the ground...as in frozen. Left for a length of time and it really has to be dug out much like mineral strip mining. It becomes perma-crap, so to speak. So...do I accompany each of my 2 animals on their early A.M. potty forays for urgent clean up duty? If not can this stuff be left for sprintgtime and at what cost or perhaps benefit? Oh, the musical relationship is that boths dogs like classical and hate zydeco (makes them skittish and barky).
  18. If absolutely nothing else it tooks balls to admit it (so they can't be THAT far away)!!
  19. 2 issues: Carbon monoxide poisoning (CO) is extremely toxic and does cause the symptoms so stated in chronic low doses. CO does not readily wash out of blood with short term exposure to clean air. It attaches to the red blood cell with 300X the affinity for hemoglobin than does oxygen. That's why it is so toxic. CO chemically interferes with O2 transport. The body easily absorbs and holds on to it. In large doses CO poisoning requires the use of hyperbaric oxygen in order to: A) supply enough oxygen to the body in simple plasma saturation and: to displace the CO from the hemoglobin. CO poisoning can be measured in arterial or venous blood with standard blood gas analyzers as % carboxyhemoglobin. Not to be toyed with, get it checked out. (Yes smokers also enjoy elevated CO levels as a consequences of the habit. It leads to vascular disease). Carbon dioxde (CO2) retention as a consequence of obstructive sleep apnea is most likely not the problem. CO2 is the gaseous waste product from the body and is readily buffered by and eliminated from the body. Interrupted sleep patterns more frequently cause a short term decrease in blood oxygen content,(indirectly and non-invasively assessed by O2 saturation monitors) which in-turn rouse the patient. Though the CO2 may also rise during apnea it will immediately recuperate upon waking. Now exposure to an atmoshpere with elevated CO2 (rebreathing) stops the elimination of the gas from the body and blood levels will rise. This will cause cerebral vascular expansion and headaches. So, if you're sleeping inside a closed freezer this could be the culprit. CO2 retention is the hallmark of severe lung disease when the lungs are so compromised they're unable to expel the waste gases from normal resting metabolism. Again a long term consequence a smoking. Headaches can be caused from plenty of other things (such as reading this post for example). Like it or no a visit to the MD is in order.
  20. When a male lion is cross bred with a female tiger the genes which control the size of each individual animal is lost so the hybrid liger seeks its own size which is always VERY large. Oddly, I believe it doesn't work the other way around (male tiger to female lion). Also, I believe the liger to be sterile just like the crossbred mule. That is a hell of a BIG kitty though. Not fat but well proportioned. Quite a bed anchor too I'll bet!!!
  21. Y'all have heard me say this before. Popbumper reports a "study" of 3 subjects, 3 cables and 3 music venues which qualifies a 100% Bose$hit. When someone does a study comprised of at least 100 subjects using no more than 2 cables and one music venue then the research design may result in some assessment with statistical validity. Too many variables and way too few participants. Consider also that any valid research is subject to "peer" review. So after getting past a tough editorial technical battery it becomes open to serious inquiry as to design and interpretation. When someone can actually reproduce the same results using the same research design then the data interpretation becomes clear and warranted (good, bad or otherwise). Whether these people want to accept it or not scientific procedure and postulates apply if they indeed wish to have some useful purpose to the work. Elsewise it's just smoke and mirrors and the paper it's printed on worthy of papering a bird cage.
  22. I took out a deer in (of all places) So. Cal. Just after dusk, head to side, a buck, at around 55 MPH. Killed my Mazda Van too!!
  23. My Jolida 502B hummed and the manufacturer refused to acknowldge it either. Waz-up with that anyway?? (I replaced it at some loss on the transaction)
  24. As we've read before it's not uncommon for salespeople to steer business towards higher profit margin items. Many are more interested in the deal at hand and not the prospect of return long-term business. Then, also, some are just plain idiots.
  25. Crescent City, Ca in 1964..a consequence of the Alaska EQ. Sadly such things come with the "earth" package. It's not like they're unknown in that part of the world. They should have had a warning system in place. All anyone can do now is pick-up the pieces, lament and point fingers.
