  1. sound like the chip set has an issue if it happened frm new id ask for a new set!! jay
  2. ok...not to steal the thread first of all doc, im not an engineer... but i do build race and show cars and because of vibration issues i solder ALL wire connections! i cant see a vibration issue inside a speaker ? also all the drivers in my cornwalls/heresys are soldered, with a screw type mechanical connection at the crossover/input board? jay
  3. hey pete.... ive never seen so many speakers in a "2" channel set up!! i wonder tho about all the dead speakers and their effect on the sound quality in your room? jay
  4. what did it do? (picture wise) and how many hours did you have on the bulb? jay
  5. congrats on the corns!!! i bought mine new in 79 and have tried more than a few reciever/amp combos i ended up with nad power and audioquest wiring (that combo smoothed out the mids some and sounds great!) the nad power envelope amps have the dynamics to match the corns and will get louder than you can stand wile still playing softly when you need them to. look for the 2400/2600 amps on ebay see my profile jay
  6. sounds like you have a delamintion of the plywood why not take a small nut and bolt, drill a hole in the offending panel and counter sink the outside hole so its not as visalbe and get rid of that buzz put a large washer in the inside to load a larger portion of the panel jay
  7. if you had one loose wire it might be worth your time to check all of them. a loose but still touching wire can have some effect on the sound quality. as an after thought i wonder why the wires arnt soldered to the drivers?? jay
  8. why not get one of the expandable entertainment centers and put the fortes on top, with the horns to the outside. then with the bridge over the tv you would also have a place for your center channel, other that setting it on top of your new set. jay
  9. i see the little sign on the wall why dont you tell us how you really feel!! jay
  10. So, who's got the heaviest amp? With special regards to my friend, Paul. me...me... pick... me!! 7 nad amps(3 2600's fronts/center) (4 2400's rear/rear surrounds). 1 pevey 2 channel(subs) 325 pounds 9000 + peaks jay
  11. i have the new moto hd/dvr cable box i have had this box hooked to an nad t-163 pre/pro for about 8 mos now. useing the digital outs it sounds "o.k." passable for movies and if i'm lazy at a party i put on the cable music stuff i recenty sent the nad in for a chip set upgrade and flipped four of my amps(front mains/ rear surrounds) to the analog outs on the moto and...."sssssssssssssssssssssssss" if your not using the digital out on this box and have a digital input on your pre/ avr ect. buy the cable and make this simple upgrade. jay
  12. the sanus stands from best buy work good and look good(if you like black) i use the ones pictured above with a set of heresys and unless someone gets drunk and crashes into them(dan/ted) they are very stable. jay
  13. "...I am well aware of the owners manual sticking rubber bumpers on the back of the enclosure so they stick out 1/4" from the wall suface is tacky at best. Flush mounting them on the wall is the best appraoch and for resonance control that is what rope calk or blue tack is for.Funny the RS-7 RS-3 or any of the previous surrounds had no such trouble" the rubber bumbers work great for keeping the speaker from falling off center. after a night of movies or loud music my rs-35's were always crooked. after putting the bumpers on they stay level. i also use the bumpers on all the pictures in our great room(located above the ht room) and now they stay put also!! as far as rope caulking the speakers to my walls? i thought rope caulk was for squawker horns!! jay
  14. "Here's the link to that online article Sometimes you have to take the plunge anyway, you can't wait forever for the ideal 1080P display. Aren't you looking forward to repurchasing some of your DVD collection at a premium price to see it in HD" larry, thanks for putting up the link i agree with taking the plunge, provided that he doesnt have a big hi-def display that he already owns. but if he is going for an upgrade(as i am) then i just thought that he should know about that little drawback. as far as my dvd collection goes, no kidding although i dont have more than a few(15?) that i would go and repurchase. jay
  15. i just read an artical on audiohaulics about the new 1080p displays and at this time all 1080p stuff is done inside the display with what ever upconvertion chip they install at the factory. at this time no consumer display accepts a 1080p input in any format other than the 5 wire computer inputs and most rear projection units dont offer that style of input. even if they did you would have to find a way to route all of your program matierial through your computer, with a very expensive video card. with the upcoming blue ray disc players(due out this summer) you might wait on a 1080p unit for now untill they decide that they will take it from dvi /hdmi ect. otherwise when you pony up for that hi-def dvd player you wont be able to hook it up to your high dollar display i was considering the new sony vpl100 projector untill i found this out " here i sit broken hearted, wanted to watch some 1080p, and someone.......................took for granted that i didnt have a 1080p source" jay
  16. whats that thing on the stand at the back of the room? that may be the whole issue with your room! j/k i have a room with funky angles like that(see my avatar) and moved the system because the wife wouldnt have the bass traps. jay
  17. thanks wuzz! ive been lost in the rest of my life for the last 7 or 8 months and just started checking the forum again a few days ago. jay
  18. iv'e now seen two references to the cornwall III, in different posts hear. with great interest ive looked at the klipsch web sight and can fine no official mention of them. can someone enlighten me? trey? jay
  19. welcome ray i would work on the amp thing first and use the pre outs on the tv to the amp. be careful with powering your 7's with the tv. if it starts to sound strained then be sure to turn it down. (for that matter even after you get your amp) jay
  20. as stated above do the rat shack thing and then sit back and listen to a couple of movies(not the test tones)if it sounds ok the your in. timbre matched speakers are the best way to go, but for some of us its too expensive or impractical. i use a combo of cornwall fronts, an rc7 center, heresy sides and rs35's for the rear. it sounds pretty good to me and my freinds all freak out and say its the best set up they've ever heard. if your doing multi channel audio then i can see where timber matched speakers ar not really an option, but if your mostly into movies the set up is a little more forgiving. as long as all your speakers can match the db level that works good for action movies your most likely ok. and when you want to listen to music just put the recievers input to stereo and turn off every thing but the fronts. jay
  21. i checked the street price and found it for $9500 the replacement bulb is $1000 and lasts for 2200 hrs at 1/2 brightness(cinama black pro) the bulb for my vpl-vw12ht is $400 and my first one lasted 2125 hrs w/ the cimama black pro on all the time i think that i too will wait for the price to come down, but it is tempting, as mrs tkot is warming up to a second system upstairs to replace our rear projection set in the family room. jay
  22. and mine i use 3 for the front .all bridged all found used. http://207.228.230.231/info/NAD_2700.pdf and that smaller 2400's for the rears jay
  23. the other way to lower the noise floor of the room would to be to get a set of really good headphones, and add a sub that you can feel. the issue that i have with that is that headphones make my giant pile of speakers seem a little silly ;} jay
  24. i have over 4 pounds of invoices!! jay
  25. hey erik, welcome to the dark side as long as you set your distances up in the set up menu and db meter w/ pink noise you can put the speakers almost anywhere you want. one thing you may try would be to put the lothers, sp?, up higher on the wall than the heresys. this still lets the lexi space the speakers out with out having a big distance between them jay
