  1. And they will sell plenty 🙄
  2. Surely not the place once was....but what is. <Sigh> 😔
  3. Since your CC didn't let you get the Jubes 😉 I think you can go at least $50 on the LS....probably have that in change under your couch cushions.
  4. Depends on your point of view and age. Back when I was in High School the drinking age was, I believe, 18 or 19 in Canada. Pretty easy in HS to look 18/19 and they were very lax at checking IDs close to the border. Bars not Customs/Border crossing agents, that is. Way too many bad choices on Fridays and Saturdays. Drive, drive, drive....BAR,....Drive, drive, drive. Can't believe jail/death was not part of somebody's fate in my entire universe of friends, classmates, etc. Different times for sure. Seemed like a good idea at 17 I suppose. Canadian lingo introduced me to the term "peeler bar". Too funny. I hear over there the dancers only wore a smile.
  5. Was your seller with Germany anecdote the original owner? If not, that part of US/Canada is so close could be U.S. serviceman bought for CDN friend knowing he was coming back and shipping on Uncle Sam. Or US serviceman/woman bought and used during time abroad shipped back for their own use and sold to CDN buyer in classified, garage sale, etc. I grew up in that area of Detroit. Was not uncommon in the 70s-90s to go back and forth several times a year. Super easy in and out. If I were Canadian I'd easily travel across the bridge or under the tunnel for some fine Klipsch speakers.

    What I Got Today!

I drive till the low gas light comes on. I can no longer fill up. Pump cuts me off at $125. Until recently it was always between $65 and 85. About 6 weeks ago I got my last full tank for $116. None of it bothers me in the least. I'm really quite sick of the chit chat on TV every four or five minutes about gas prices. Who around here is truly going to change their life for the difference between three and five even $10 a gallon? Some of you spend several hundred on a single tube for your multi-thousand dollar amp. This is the thread that proves the excess. Guilty myself. I truly feel bad for the people it's making a 20 or 30% difference in their weekly budget. But for most people I know it's just a reason to b!tc#. Not directed at you @Tarheel in any way, just a general observation of the noise out there the last several weeks Back to your normally scheduled programming, old man shaking fists rant over.
  7. Now we are talking. Stuff that goes boom! I actually know a bit about this. For well over 50 years my recently departed dad was BIG into 18th century reenactments (Think Grizzly Adams trading furs in silly buck skin costumes, not civil war clowns in silly costumes). Since I was able to walk I've been throwing a tomahawk, melting lead into musket balls, listening to flint lock how-tos, keeping your powder dry and tracking down the elusive 1840s Green River knives.....but I digress. I think the cannon will just be a bigger version of the flint lock rifles, I now have gathering dust. Much like your cannon too much family history to not have them around. The gun like the cannon loads a ball from the "business" end. Though you put the black powder and wadding in first. I think good that you don't have any cloth/patch between the ball and barrel sides (less force when shot out). I'm curious how you plan to get the powder in. I'm guessing the cannon is one piece and the back end is fixed. Otherwise you would be opening it and pushing the ball out. With the ball already in, how do you plan to "load" it. Maybe just a small amount in the fuse hole. This, I'm guessing is where you have been trying compressed air. When you say "primer" is that some sort of percussion cap? Newer muzzle loaders use a primer cap that the hammer hits to (hopefully) ignite the powder in the rifles barrel. That is cheating in my dad's world. You had to have a piece of flint that sparked on a piece of steel to ignite a small amount of powder on a pan that acted like a fuse to set off the bigger load in the barrel. I suspect your fuse replaces that flint-lock mechanism. Please elaborate on the "primer". Really curious now...but not enough to actually google anything 😉
  8. He owns a cannon and his name is Richard (same as me and @richieb) of course he wants to do something stupid. Though I must admit the "cannon worm" is a pretty cool name....but no way to resolve this problem. BTW, this is the best Lounge thread in the past 5 years. I can't wait to see how it winds up. I hope with a bang!
  9. Yours should look like weather stripping on a storm door. The idea is to get it really tight against the walls. Others often suggest pipe insulation or pool noodles to provide more spongy-ness. I went the pipe insulation route with my 86/87 AK-2's. I had good luck tipping the khorn slightly toward me from the top and forcing the bottom hard into the corner then standing the khorn up straight....if you can visualize that. There is a cut out at the bottom for baseboard/molding, with it tipped forward it can help you get closer. I had a purpose built room with perfect corners. They were as tight as you could get them. Interestingly enough I never thought my Khorns had the same bass response as the handful of others I've had a chance to listen to. I "upgraded" XOs from long time forum member and still never got where I thought I should be. After 14 years of loving the midrange we parted ways. Moved to bigger horns for a time and then open baffle. Can't say that I miss the Khorns after going 2-way active. I am glad for the time we had together.
  10. If I didn't lose any body parts with a flimsy metal tennis ball can, I can't imagine anything would happen to the cannon even with its advanced age.
  11. I did not see your budget. Maybe I missed it. I cycled several in and out over the years. Not terribly expensive by A/V standards and I have no reason to look any further. Lehmann Black Cube SE II. Two unit piece with separate power supply. Lots of loading and gain options. https://www.lehmannaudio.com/phono-stages/black-cube-se-ii.html
  12. Sorta like the hairspray idea but use automobile starting fluid. We used to call them tennis ball cannons. Small hole in bottom of metal 3-tennis ball can. crimp the perimeter of can about 2" up from the bottom so the tennis ball got "stuck". Starting fluid in the bottom of the can (if night time on top of the ball from the open end too). Kid with drawing the short stick had to put the match to the hole.....boom! Tennis ball would go about three stories up. Flaming if night time as a match had to go in the open end as well as the hole at the bottom. Tomorrow's physic lesson - Draino bomb! Gather up a glass bottle with a screw on top (the thicker the glass louder the boom) some aluminum foil, water and of course Draino. I can't believe I ever made it to driving age. Absent the success of starting fluid I'd configure a Block and Tackle to raise the @$$-end up with the open end facing down, and lightly raise/lower the open end on a cement garage floor. I bet the tapping will dislodge it....or crack the floor. Long drill bit and an "easy-out" (broken bolt remover)?

    First Watt

I have the J2 and really like it. Got rid of my VRDs and Wright 2A3 mono blocks and have zero regrets. My only beef with the First Watt lineup is that more of them don't have balanced connections. I'd likely try a few more variants beyond the J2 if only they were. EDIT: Just looked back at the first page. I'm now so old I'm repeating myself. 😲
  14. Just my opinion, but I see it all the time online. Everyone pretending to be concerned for the artist missing out on $$$$ when you copy a CD/Download from a friend. All very virtuous and self-righteous. People thumping their chest that I always buy every CD from the artist at the show so every penny goes in their pocket. Anyone who owns a bunt CD rather than buying it, is the same as if they walked into a store and shoplifted it. None of us ever copied an album to cassette and gave it to our friend when we were 17 and money was tight? none of us ever checked out a LP, Cassette, books on tape, CD, DVD from the library and made a copy? That mix tape or CD you made for your girlfriend should land you in jail because she does not have a legally bought copy of every album you made hers off of? Obviously, P2P sites like Napster in the late 90s are/was/were wrong. And actively going to a torrent site with the intent of getting for free which you would otherwise buy is cheating the artist. I did not read the article that way. I saw it is spreading the joy in small amounts. Not burning 50 copies and selling them out of your dorm room. A lot of the file sharing he talks about came directly from the producers of the material because it is not available on streaming sites. Legal battles over samples keep many works of art from being redistributed. Something produced on cassette or CD long ago in small quantities that people loved in one part of the world are not available today in any other way than getting a copy from somebody that has it. Maybe I'm wrong but I didn't get the feeling that he was saying it was okay to give 5TBs of Taylor Swifts entire catalog to 50 people you don't know online. I think you missed the bigger picture of the article. The love of the music, sharing with others to broaden their horizons was a small part of it. The bigger part was collecting and curating your own music. Then slicing and dicing the data in ways you see fit. No different, in my mind, than deciding to reorganize your LP collection in a new way that means something to you. Though with a properly digitized library you can have it a dozen different ways in the same day. I must confess. I was working with a guy probably 20 year ago, and we were talking about all sorts of music/groups. He asked me about Beth Orton. I said I did not know of her. He gave me a copied CD of Trailer Park. I've since bought probably 4 or 5 of her other albums. Had I not "stolen" that one, illegal, CD and learned of her I'm, sure she would be a lot better off financially. I think I gave him a copy of Radio Head's In Rainbows a few years later. Send the SWAT team to his house. If you really care about the artists financial well being go see them live at a show. Its about the only way to make money as a band these days. Unless you are at the very top of the food chain streaming royalties are a pittance compared to the days of record sales. And even then the studios were ripping off the artists. I'm not directing all this all at you @CWelsh, sorry if it comes off that way. I just see so many online "music lovers" quick to jump on anyone with the hint of sharing/trading. Some old dude said something about throwing the first stone. Seems like most should practice what they preach. If you have never copied anything I guess that let's your toss some rocks.
  15. Excellent article. https://pitchfork.com/features/article/the-obsessive-world-of-digital-music-collectors/ I know there are a few here that keep a digital library as well as physical media. I'd be curious to hear everyone's take is, and if you never did it, did it and gave up or still chugging along. As for me I can't imagine ever going back. 100,000+ songs instantly available in every room of my house, in the backyard, even the garage. I've done the vinyl thing for 40+ years. Still love it. I totally get the physical media connection. I think I could go the rest of my life and never slide another CD in my cars slot or open the tray on my Oppo-play-every-disc-type magic machine. Convenience is a factor, but strangely I have very little interest in streaming services. I still want to be in control of my music. After all once I buy it, rip it, download it....it is mine. I can't see renting music even if that means I have access to 20X what I currently have. If I've taken the time to own it, it means something to me. Lots of good talk in the article about how watered down the services actually are. The article is a bit long but worth the time to read. I'd really be interested to hear different opinions.
