  1. Insulated walls and an acre lot does the trick, so not worried about the neighbors, but we know all the adjoining ones very well. Since we finished the basement and added the insulation, the theater is directly below the master bedroom(there is the family room in between) and actually as long as you keep it below 95dBs for the bass my wife can sleep through it. Michael - Thought it was just Pennsylvania and Wisconsin with the large Amish populations? So they think you are a crazy SOB, why? Is because your up at all times of the night on your PC logged on the Klipsch forum? 2 acres in the of the city, nice.
  2. "DVD-A and SACD can ONLY be passed to the receiver as analog signals. ONLY. PERIOD. (unless you have a firewire or I-link connection, which the 4802 doesn't have, iirc.)" SIV Even if the 4802 had the iirc/denon link wouldn't the reciever still need to SACD decoder built in?
  3. They are both very good, but prefer Denon.
  4. "Yes and No. The Low Pass Control setting will still determine the "cut-off" frequency of the sub. In other words, if you set your Low Pass Filter to 80, you will get no Frequencies above 80Hz from the subwoofer (in simplified terms. Actually, the sub will start to "roll off" at 80.) The LFE in movie soundtracks extends usually up to 120Hz, although it can go higher (which also answers your other question above). So, to use the "Magic" 80Hz number, if you set the Low Pass Filter on the sub at 80, you are missing everything from 80Hz-120Hz from the LFE track (again, in simple terms). Those frequencies, contrary to what some people may believe, are not rechannelled to the Main Speakers, they are just gone. The exception of course is those who choose to send the LFE to the Sub+Main, which is probably a good way to do it if you feel your sub is too Boomy at the "higher" frequencies." toddvj Edit: I think we are saying the same thing, when I re-re-read what you wrote up above. Let me know. thz Now you got me thinking. From my manual I understood those two setting differently. First the The sub cross over is the point at which all bass signals from the mains, Center & surrounds get passed to the Sub and point at which the bottom end begins to roll off on every thing but the sub. This cross over only applies to speakers you set to small. Speakers set to large get the full signal and no cross over is applied. The LFE setting determines whether to split the LFE signal ( LFE only on surround mixes) to both your mains and sub or just to your sub. You should have the sub low pass disabled so it plays all frequencies past to it, or attempts to anyway. So in your example if you set the cross over to 80hz and have the LFE set to LFE only (not LFE + mains) and the LFE presented a 120hz signal, it would be played by the sub, since the cross over only applies to the discrete signals sent to the mains, center & surrounds, not the LFE. You should not be missing any of the signal is my understanding and experiance. TDK - I am using a Denon (check my profile) as well, so you should be in the same boat.
  5. For $600 to $700? I would look for on ebay, used a Wilson WATT/Puppies, say $300 or $400. Then I would look for a used Krell 700cx for $200 or $250 max, again ebay. Your going to need a sub, so look for a used Velodyne DD 1812 signature edition for $100 to $75. Wait I forgot cables .. not sure we can swing it.
  6. tdk I am curious, if you set to large, its passing the full signal, true not for the LFE signal for DTS and DD unless you have the LFE set to mains, which you don't, so you get over lap in room nodes? Still tight bass, no booming, etc. Interesting your results, cool. What's your room size and treatment. I have yet to treat the room, just tweaking the speaker placements. Thanks
  7. Have you listened to them yet? I would agree a nice oak or walnut finish is important, but when it comes to sound, 'don't judge a book by its cover', wait until you hear them.
  8. I have found the best set up for me is, set all speakers to small, including the RF7s mains, set the LFE to LFE only, not LFE + mains. Then I set the cross over to the RSW15 at 60hz. I have experimented a bit, seem the get the smoothest bass response in my room this way. Experiment and enjoy.
  9. Really nice speakers, if you want higher resale value, you might want take a picture with out the plant on top. Don't know how many water stains on have seen on otherwise really nice finishes, top of speakers due to plants, even with the farbric. Good luck
  10. Please post some picture when you get everything set up. Congrats
  11. It sounds like B drops then comes back up, while A remains constant. I did not have headphones handy so I used by my 'awesome' cambridge sound work cubes attached to my PC. Perhaps that voids my test?
  12. Wow They are in great shape, look more like 1 year old, rather than 27. Love the finish, walnut? Were they in the same price ballpark as the Khorns new back in 1978?
  13. Re: Free Beer Tomorrow LOL Have you seen the old signs from the drinking establishments that had the bar in the front room and card tables in the back room. Liqueur in the Front Poker in the Rear
  14. Is this a fake post? No wonder they went out of business if they are holding on to new inventory as nice a new KLF30 speakers since 2001 and have not sold them. Are they demos? Even then a dealer would have moved them as 'demos' for a reduced price as new products came in. What gives?
  15. One of my favorite things to do is to watch/listen to DVD concerts. (Free Beers, no lines, the bathrooms empty, I dont miss any part of the concert, usually sound better, etc) The U2 concert at Sloan Concert is great. I saw then back in 1987 for the Joshua Tree Tour in Syracuse NY at the dome. It was echo city, I mean live music is live music, but still this concerts better in my HT then the dome. I would highly recommend Eric Claptons One More Car One More Rider. It a great performance and still one of the best sounding concert DVDs, sound definitely be added to your reference collection. Another good one is the George Harrison tribute concert. Interestingly I brought the WHO & Special concert from 1991 also shot in Albert Hall and while a great concert its sound quality does not match the ones above. Think it has to do with the fact the WHO concert was probably about 20dB louder and so the recording reflects the hall acoustics more. Still Eddie Vedder who sings during the concert, and I like Pearl Jam, could not hold a candle to Daltrey. I associate The WHO with loud (meaning high dB/dynamic/ but low distortion) what better speaker than Klipsch. A side bar, the last concert I saw live was the Eagles in DC at the MCI center (where the Caps play). Before the Eagles came on they had an advertisement for the JBL sound system that was used for the concert. It was broadcast on the overhead display, they sounded good not great, not sure what you can do for a concrete indoor area.
  16. I read this thread the first time about two months ago, its really amazing work. Like the fact its always a work in progress, except the Khorns. Its full of great ideas and actual implementation.
  17. I would guess the small ones are KG1.5s and the larger pair are KG4.5s, not sure about the center.
  18. Sorry we crossed postings. That is cool its auto switches. So from your previous post if I understand with the new player (pioneer elite DV-47ai) that processes SACDs and supports ILINK, even though your Pioneer does support decoding SACDs you could use ILINK to send the discreate digital signals to it? I am asking cause I am in the same boat to some in the my reciever does not process SACDs.
  19. That is what I thought, I would think though for other material you would want to use the digital link to the Pioneer and use its DAC and any possible digital surround process (DTS/DD, etc) Just wondering how to easily switch back and forth. That why I asked the question
  20. minn_male42 Does your Pioneer reciever handle the SACD via the digital link or are you going analog in from your DVD player to the pioneer?
  21. Would interested to hear peoples opinion it terms of what has the biggest impact on the sound of their system. Below is my take, note, I dont include LPs are not applicable to me, so I would guess TT vary in sound quality more so than a CD/DVD player. I realize there has to be some assumptions made, such as when you refer to speaker cables/wire, that I am not talking about say string, I mean working cables of proper gauge for the length. Besides #1, which pretty much determines choices 2 through 10 I am interested on what you spend the most of your time/interest on that give you the biggest impact/results/enjoyment. 1. Your ears/head/brain 2. The software (aka CD, DVD, etc) 3. Tie: Speakers /Room acoustics 5. DACs (includes surround processing) 6. The amplifier / Receiver. 7. Preamp, if applicable 8. CD/DVD player 9. Component Interconnects 10. Speaker cables.
  22. I would agree with JPM, I have my dream, the RF/C/S 7s for HT/Music. They are awesome IMHO for the price.
  23. great post, impressions were very interesting. The interier looks great.
  24. 3d Thank you. Since its few and far in between when I can get my wife to sit down and listen to music with me, Lucy and Elle never fail to show up so I am not alone. The only frustrating part is Elle snores (she is the one on the right).
