  1. Hi Doc, Absolutely, deal. I have three pair of KP-3002's and they are great speakers. The HF driver is the Eminence PSD-2002. Diaphragms are available from Parts Express, if needed. The woofer is the K-48 (Eminence), same as used in the Chorus I and II. These little guys are great for PA and home theater, in fact, I'm using three of them as LCR in one of my rooms. For PA, you'll want a couple of 18" subs. The KP-4000's are great with the 3002.
  2. Hey, Kevin, I sent you a PM. I'm in Wichita. Call me.
  3. Hi Chuck, The first thing we're going to work on is the rear window reflection in the sanctuary. When we listen over headphones, the vocals are clear and understandable, so this seems to be a room issue. The next step will be to use the KP-600s by themselves without the overhead center cluster. I still have some work to do to get the 600's up and running. Waiting for amps and EQ settings.
  4. Hi Matt, The KP-2000C uses a K-28-K woofer with a K-62-K hf driver. If I recall correctly, the K-62-K was made by Klipsch. You will need to call Klipsch parts to see if diaphragms are still available. 800-554-7724
  5. So, does waxing reduce sidewall friction as the "bubble" travels down the horn? []
  6. One might think Ya think? I think y'all are on to something ! I no longer own any of those little toy home speakers. Only pro here . . . .
  7. Well, NUTZ!! My plans to join my roadie brothers in Indy haved been dashed. Two clients changed meeting times on me. Now I have to be in Iowa on the 11th and in North Carolina on the 14th for meetings on the 15th and 16th. This is most disappointing. Y'all please take lots of pics . . . [:'(]
  8. Hi Dean, Using a Denon 2808Ci for pre/processor driving Crown XTi's. Oppo is connected with HDMI cable, as was the PS-3 and the "standard DVD" Oppo.
  9. Boys, I am really getting excited. This is going to be a ton of fun!!!
  10. Sorry, not ignoring you. My main PC with all the pro files experienced the Windows blue screen of death. I'm working from my laptop now. Once I get re-loaded, I'll post pics and descriptions . . . .or . . . .Mr. Colter, the professor of all things Klipsch pro, may jump in here and lend a hand. I suspect Michael is mucho busy preparing for the great times ahead at the Pilgrimage.
  11. Hi Eldon, I use a pair of Ki-102 for side surrounds and a pair of Ki-172 for rear surround. Both have the same drivers with the KP-8E woofer and a 100 x 100 tractrix tweeter. The KP-110B uses the same 8" woofer with a 90 x 90 tweeter. The 110's also mount with a bracket. All these little 8" two-way's work great for surrounds.
  12. A wise person I know once likened pro speakers to tools and home speakers to toys. With Klipsch, there is a close relationship between their pro speakers and many speakers in their "home" offerings. The pro speakers are voiced to sound "high-fi", not just crank out high spl. After my experience with Jubilees and some of the other Klipsch "pro" speakers, I decided it was time to listen to "tools" and sell most of the "toys". In addition to the HT collection listed below, I use KP-320's with a sub woofer in another room, and Ki-272's with a sub in yet another. I helped three friends put together HT systems used KP-3002's for L/C/R and KP-110B's for surrounds. Purchase cost was low, but the sound is fabulous. Several of their friends are now asking me for help with their systems and they all want those "pro speakers like Rob has". KP-3002's or KP-320's can be found for under $400 a pair. I bought the KP-110B's for $110 a pair. They only disadvantage to this approach is the lack of furniture finish. If you're willing to build the speaker in or decorate around them, then it's not a problem. The sound is great. I discovered the great sound of the Klipsch 8" woofer (KP-8E) in two-way cabinets combined with several different tweeters in the KP-110B, Ki-102, Ki-172, KSM-8, etc. If you want/need, I still have a couple extra pair of KP-110B's.
  13. My Oppo Blu Ray has arrived. I compared it first to the Sony PS-3. The first test DVD was Iron Man, 7.1 HD Audio. The Oppo Blu Ray was connected as delivered, with factory calibration settings. The video was excellent, just like the PS-3. The surprise was the vast improvement in the audio. I now had 7.1 audio instead of 5.1, but the dynamic range and detail in the Oppo are a huge improvement over the PS-3. That lead me to compare a standard audio CD on both PS-3 and Oppo Blu Ray. Big difference here, too. I didn't expect that. Given the improvement in audio on the Oppo over the PS-3, I decided to reconnect the Oppo DV-983H standard DVD player, for audio comparison. The Opps BDP-83 BluRay is the clear winner here, too. With the limited experience I now have with the BDP-83, and at factory settings, it appears that Oppo has, once again, outdone themselves with a great new product for video and for audio.
  14. Congratulations, Mark!! Well done . . . Now, where are those little buggers with a mic for my iPhones? Hmmmmm??????
  15. We have an interesting challenge in our church sanctuary with speech intelligibility of the singers. The room seats 1200 and is layed out in a flattened diamond shape with the chancel in one of the corners of the diamond. The room is wider than it is deep. Heavy black drapes are hung on the side walls from about 10' down. The walls above are brick. The back wall is mostly glass. Aisles are carpeted and pews are fabric upholstered. The ceiling is vaulted wood about 45' high at the peak. We are using a KP-682 with 2 Ki-362's on the on the left side and a KP-682 with 2 Ki-362s on the righ side of the stage with a center cluster flown overhead in center. The cluster is about 40' in the air and the two floor stacks are about 40' apart. SM58 mics. Intelligibility is good when only one person is speaking. When the band is playing, the music sounds good, but you can't understand the words being sung. Any thoughts on how to begin improving intelligibility?
  16. Thanks guys!! McMaster.com has everything. []
  17. Hi Michael, True. I was surprised to see that the KP-600 use 1" 10-24 (3/16").
  18. Where is the best place to buy pan head, phillips, black oxide, 10-24 x 1" machine screws for woofer mounting? I need 32. Thanks
  19. Get your bidding fingers ready!! Our own "twistedcrankcammer", Roger, has some beautiful oak K-horns on ebay. No affiliation (other than a fellow forum friend), yada, yada, yada
  20. Oh, no!! What a sad, but all-too-common story about shipping with UPS. I bought a pair of Klipsch KP-320's from a fellow in Arizona who shipped them UPS to me. They were beautifully packed. The box was dropped so hard that it broke the woofer magnet. The pro cabinet was fine. UPS denied the claim as inadequate packing. I responded that the 3/4" 13-ply "shipping crate" (cabinet) was undamaged. Still denied. Klipsch said woofer was dropped too hard. Still denied. This went round and round for months. End of story: I paid for a new woofer. I will only ship by FEDEX ground. That's who Klipsch uses. My brother does all the FEDEX flight plans, so I figure I have someone to call if ever I have a problem. I WILL NEVER SHIP BY UPS AGAIN!!! I sure hope this works out for you . . . . .
  21. From David Glass, Crown Application Support Engineer: Below is an answer I did previously for the XTi series and I added the XTi 6000 *************************************** There are two standards that make it easier to compare amplifier output ratings the FTC and EIA ratings standards. The FTC standard was established by the Federal Trade Commission and requires that a manufacturer’s stated power ratings must meet the advertised frequency range (usually 20 Hz to 20 kHz) at the rated THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) with both channels driven. The EIA rating, established by The Electronic Industries Association, is the power output of a single channel driven at typically 1 kHz with 1% THD clipping. The EIA standard will typically be 10 to 20% higher than the FTC ratings. The XTi series for FTC rating is measured at being down 1db in out put from the EIA spec (both channels driven). So what does that mean well lets look at the math for XTi4000 8-ohm spec. The XTi4000 is EIA (both channels driven) for 650 watts into 8-ohms. To do this we will need to calculate for the 20-20k output voltage spec. (Vspec2) and then we can calculate the output power. 1) First lets calculate the output voltage for the EIA (both channels driven) (Vspec1). Vspec1=SQR(650*8) Vspec1=72.11 volts 2) Now for the heavy math and reverse calculating the 20-20k output voltage spec (Vspec2) for 1db down. -1db=20 log(Vspec2/Vspec1) -1db=20 log(Vspec2/72.11) -1db/20={20log(Vspec2/72.11)}/20 -0.05=log(Vspec2/72.11) Antilog -0.05= Vspec2/72.11 .89125= Vspec2/72.11 Vspec2=.89125*72.11 Vspec2=64.27 3)Now use the power formula to calculate the 20-20k output power from the Vspec2 voltage. W= V2/8 W= Vspec22/8 W= 64.272/8 W= 516.3 watts output for 20-20k Continuing along the same line you come up with the following chart. XTi1000 Imp. ............EIA Spec.............Calc.20%.......................1db down 20-20K spec 8-ohms..........275w.....................220w...............................218w 4-ohms..........500w.....................400w...............................397w XTi2000 Imp. ............EIA Spec.............Calc.20%.......................1db down 20-20K spec 8-ohms.........475w.....................380w................................377w 4-ohms.........800w.....................640w................................636w XTi4000 Imp. ............EIA Spec.............Calc.20%.......................1db down 20-20K spec 8-ohms.........650w.....................520w...............................516w 4-ohms.......1200w.....................960w................................953w XTi6000 Imp. ............EIA Spec.............Calc.20%.......................1db down 20-20K spec 8-ohms.........1200w.....................960w..............................953w 4-ohms.........2100w.....................1680w...........................1668w
  22. We need to call parts for part number 061034 - grill stand off. Could be 15 - 20 cents apiece.
  23. The oem Klipsch pro speakers use a black plastic dowel with a hole for the screw. I've been looking for something like this, but no joy, yet.
  24. Those look great!! Dane does good work. He made 13 grills for my KP-110B's and they fit perfectly and look terrific. What did you use for screws and stand-off?
  25. Now that's a good question for the professor. Hey, Mark, what should we do????
