  1. I'm crossing mine at 60hz now. that is for music and HT. I did have them crossed at 80 hz and to be honest I don't think I can hear much of a difference.
  2. One reason I play old vinyl is because it is cheap! I checked out a consignement store yesterday and picked up about 20 lps for $20.00. I know that that is a little more than 0.50 or 0.25 at a garage sale but the vinyl in these were in good shape. The covers not so good. brought them home cleaned them and I'll have 12 to 15 hrs of entertainment for $20.00. Buying old vinyl is a crap shoot. You can visually inspect it but there can still be skips and clicks. I was lucky with most of these. The Deeep Purple Machine Head does have a skip in it. O well, it was a buck. I've throw away a buck on a lot less.
  3. Hi Rivernuggets, I live in the quadcities. Close but not quite as cold as Madison. My attached garage wasn't insulated and on a slabe like yours. I first put up rolled insulation in the walls with a vapor shield then dry wall over that. I then got the insulated garage door and the walk out door is a stanely steel insulated door. The ceiling is blown in insulation over drywall. This without the heater keeps the garage above freezing most of the winter. If it is below ) for several days and my wife and kids forget to close the doorsome it will get below freezing in there. Most of the time it stays about 40 to 45 degrees. This also helped a lot with the inside shared wall. Made our living room much warmer. I thought about some heat but I have never gotten around to it. If I was I think I'd use a hanging natural gass heater. My brother in law has one and it keeps his well over 60 degrees without much expense in the same climate as here. The hanging heater is out of the way, not on the walls where you might want storage. He can turn it on to heat up his garage rather quickley and melt the cars off and ect. If I was going to do it that would be the way I'd go.
  4. I must like them, I have 6 forte II's and two quartets. I was using 5 of them in my 7.1 HT until recently. I then got the bells and a lascala for center. Now I have one pair of forte II's for surrounds and the quartets for rears. I'm keeping all of them, someday I may let my son have them when and if he ever moves out and gets an apartment. I replaced the crossovers with popbumpers K-tacks in 5 of them and the quartets. They made a hell of a HT system. Never tried a/b against the belles but they will be back in service while I refinish my belles.
  5. I have a pb12/2 ultra which I like very much. I haven't had anything to compare it too. It works well with my belles and for my HT.
  6. The grills have set screws/bolts that come in through the bottom and top. If you tip the speaker over you will see them going up through the bottom. After you take off the top part you should see the bolts going down to the top edge of the grills. When I got mine they had been cut off and the grills replace with a flat grill frame. That is why I had to build new ones. I made mine tight enough that they are just wedged in there for now. I may replace the set bolts once I refinish the whole speaker. I know I've read on the forum where people have given instructions on how to get them out. Maybe it was Groomslake. With your wood working skills I think it would be an easy project for you.
  7. Thanks Mungkin and Rodger! I'll do some research. I was looking at the Oak Veneer Company on line. They said that their Red oak can vary from pink to wheat. I'll contact them to see if I can get the wheat colored. It looks like i should get the flat cut. Their prices seem to be fairly in expensive. I may order a full extra sheet just so I will have lot of extra to have the grain centered on the pieces. thanks again Keith
  8. I forgot the last part. Take your lower grills out and store, build new grill frames and use the black cloth from Bob crites to cover the upper and lower. It's not very hard to build new frames for the bottom. I did it in a few hours for mine, then painted them and covered them a few days later. This is a little more expense and work but they do come out nice.
  9. How about building some taller side panels for the top section, veneer them and stain to match the original colors. Save the old side panels to go back to original. You could increase the side high enough to put the beyma on top of the 260 hz horn or build a top dog house box just for the tweeter. Either way you need to build some taller side panels and match the finish. your finished height will be close to a Khorn.
  10. I text 1 to 2 per day. They usually say call me when you get a chance. That is the only way I can get in touch with my 18 yr old and my 20 yr old. They won't answer their phone but will answer their text. (they are in college and are at class or texting their friends or sleeping and very rarly will answer their phone for their dad. It must be the caller ID)
  11. I know that oil is BLO. People have used a stain which if I remember correctly is minwas #230 which is close.
  12. I'm planning on reveneering some of my speakers and making them Oil Oak to match some other speakers. I've searched the forum and have came up with both red oak and white oak for the wood. I believe Colter has an old post that says white and a recent one from Groomslake says red. I also saw that the minwax #230 I think was the stain. I used that on some red oak for risers for my forte II's. It was real close but not exact. Since these new veneered speakers won't be right next to the other oil oak speakers the the exact tint doesn't have to be spot on. Thanks Keith
  13. First go get your 12 gauge shells and load the gun. I have belles that the previous owners cat used as a claw sharpener. Rebuilt new grills and cloths from BEC. Next will be veneer to get rid of all the claw marks.
  14. Amy, My wife got one a little ove a year ago and loves it. She loads it with books and takes it on vacation and ect. She is in a book club and does almost all of her reading on it. She has the older version like Kindle one I think.
  15. Playoffs? Maybe a good debate pluses and minuses Congress having anything to do with it. NFW. They could screw up a one car funeral procession.
  16. Hey Thanks Schaffer. I already have them and I do enjoy them. I have used them to branch into the artist that are on those CD's. We are about 3 hrs west of Chicago and get to see a lot of the Alligator artist here at our summer Blues Fest. I will definetly check out Mindy Smith and Jamey Johnson. I try them on my squeeze box and if I like them I usually get the CD. Thanks to all for the suggestions.
  17. Just wanting to get some ideas to put on my christmas list. Haven't seen anything new released that really trips my trigger. Maybe it's because I'm older and my trigger is getting harder to trip. Any new must haves in adult alternative, rock, folk singer/song writer and chicago style blues?
  18. Lawrence Welk was on every saturday evening about 7:00 pm in our town. My parents would watch it while they were getting ready to go out to a local dance like a silver wedding ro the local firemans dance. My sisters and I would have to have it on while we were making a chef boy r dee pizza. I have heard some of Roy Rodgers the blues man. Very good.
  19. My wife was out of tow for 10 days at the begining of Nov. When she got home we hade two belle's and a lascala center. She just laughed and said she didn't have to worry about how much yarn and material she had bought. Luckly we don't have to worry about the finacial side, besides i got good deals on used equipment. By the way she is out of town right now, I better go down stairs and listen loud for awhile.
  20. A 74 AMC hornet hatchback. Had one it was a POS.
  21. I wondered who she was? She did a great job.
  22. I watched part of it last night and recorded it on the DVR. It was very entertaining with a weird mixture of performers singing together. Metalica with Lou Reed and also with the lead singer of the Kinks. Jeff Beck With Sting, Springstein with Billy Joel. It was an HBO special.
  23. I set 12 feet from a 6 foot by 4 foot screen. I have a 720p projector. So I guess my calculator is double the width of the screen and set there. I just put in the biggest that I could fit there. I think bigger is better as any woman would tell you.
  24. I always liked the red phone from the president that rang with a little 9 chord tone for Flint. flint was a James bond knock off with a satiric look a Ian Flemming.
  25. Jhoak nd Marvel those are some sweet looking Lascala's. All my digital cameras have dead batterys I'll get some pictures later. The grill isn't that pretty antyway but I can live with it for a while. I think I'll do like Groomslake says and make a set of frames after I get some time. If anyone knows what that angle is for sure let me know. I don't have time to charge the camera right now since I have to do a little listening tonight and get ready to head to Trey's tomorrow for a lascala center. The wife's out of town staying with her mother for a week. She will be back on Sunday. Hope I don't end up with too many knots on my head. Is it true that it is better to do it and then ask for forgiveness instead of asking permission?
