  1. Well, I've been running 500 watts to the highs........500 watts to the lows on my RF-7's using an active crossover. Keeping the gains on the amps at 75% and the gains on the active crossover at 25% I've been experiencing output, headroom and clarity like never before with 200 watt amps. I would say that the extra power......in comparison to lesser powered amps prior.......controls the speakers much better. Tighter bass, better separation, smoother midrange etc. I even had an 8 watt tube amp paired up with a JM Peach preamp that left the 7's sounding lifeless. Sold the 8 watt tube amp to a friend.......he runs it with Cornwalls.......and they sound awesome. I'm not against running lesser power. This so far is what I've found to make the 7's sound their best.
  2. I know someone who uses a Behringer 2500 with his SVS cylinder subs with great success. I believe the 2500 can be had for $300-$350.
  3. This is an interesting topic. Practically every preamp/amp/speaker combo I've ever had.........have almost always been different as far as gain settings. I've just done my best to let my ears judge what sounds right.
  4. Yeah, it's a must. Pick it up and let er rip. I'm not a huge Godsmack fan but that concert is (sounds) awesome. []
  5. I hear ya..........try Godsmack "Changes" dvd. [Y][Y] Tom_E.........speaker placement and dealing with room acoustics can do wonders (my experience). []
  6. I would agree with that statement also. However, like I said with my Crown's bi-amped using an active crossover.....I'm very satisfied with the results. I believe that these type of amps lend themselves to the type of music that I mostly listen to (Hard Rock). If I mostly listened to smooth jazz, classical music etc.........I would definitely use a cleaner, quieter amp. This is purely based on my experience and my own two ears. []
  7. That's awesome. [Y] .....including that poster of the guy with his hair blowing from his speakers. I gotta get one of those. Anyone know how to get one? Better yet....maybe I'll take one of myself with all three pairs of RF-7's firing right at my head. [] Congrats on the speakers. []
  8. Larry.....Thanks very much for the invite but unfortunately my job rarely ever allows me to schedule anything too far in advance. Just the nature of my job. However, this discussion has sparked some interest in me to try something new. Perhaps I will attend something in the Chicago-Milwaukee area. My gf is also interested. For myself, almost any kind of live performance is of interest to me. Any suggestions on what might be in my area? Thanks again, Scott.
  9. Your gonna dig it Hard On. [Y] I combine the deep "Growl" of the PB-12 Ultra/2 with the "Punch" of dual RSW-15's to go with my RF-7's and love it. I'll never part with my Ultra.
  10. ........Atta Boy. [Y]I use Crown XTI 2000's with RF-7's in a bi-amp configuration and absolutely love them. [] On the other hand.....The XTI's powering the 7's in a normal two-channel setup doesn't do anything for me unfortunately.[]
  11. That's awesome. I'm a firm believer in using subs for two-channel listening. You're right, a GOOD sub does make the difference. A poor, out of tune sub will draw attention to itself and just ruin everything. Congrats on your new sub. [Y]
  12. "You know it's sad but true""Ride The Lightning" just came on Sirius..........you guys are right. [:^)]
  13. Hey Steve.......That's what I'm talkin' bout. [Y] I'm ready for something new.....since I've been listening to the same Hard Rock/Classic Rock/Heavy Metal for years now. The new mainsteam stuff that's out today doesn't quite cut it........I mean, remember the days when you bought an album and the whole thing rocked. Now, buy a cd and maybe 1 to 3 songs are good. [*-)] The only prog/rock I've heard is Dream Theatre.......correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that's how they were labeled? I've got one of their DVD's......can't remember the name off hand but it's recorded at Budakon. Sounds awesome on my RF-7's. I'm gonna keep an eye out for those albums you mentioned........besides, those chicks look hot. []
  14. I've had the same experience. I might add that room treatments have been almost.....if not equally......as important. [Y]
  15. RSW-15........SVS PB-12 Ultra/2......[Y]
  16. ........and you can consider your room to actually be part of your speakers. Proper placement of speakers/subs and an acoustically sound room counts for A LOT. []
  17. Interesting..........Remember when hard rock/metal bands were implementing orchestras into their concerts........Metallica comes to mind......I never seen a live show like that. Have you?........comments?......good?......bad? [:^)]
  18. I can only comment on the Denon......... Movies= Top Notch [Y] Music= Thin and stale sounding.......but very clean. [:^)]
  19. "Keepin' it hard, loud and metal"...........and appreciating Tchiakovsky......that's awesome. [] .......not being sarcastic.
  20. This may be what I've been looking for.......to work as a HT bypass between my Denon 3805 receiver and Cambridge Audio preamp......they'd share the same speakers........flip the switch to safely listen to one or the other without having to re-wire anything? No noise? No Hum? Could this be true? [][]
